West Indies has won the title twice in this format also. Even in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, the West Indies team is performing brilliantly, but there is one special thing related to this team which very few fans know.
Let us tell you that West Indies, one of the most powerful cricket teams in the world, does not have its own national anthem. In such a situation, this question will be in the minds of the fans that what do they sing with the West Indies team flag in ICC events. Because the national anthem of every team in the world is played, except West Indies. In such a situation, let us know why this happens.
National anthem is not of West Indies cricket team
West Indies is the only cricket team in the world which does not have its own national anthem. Actually, West Indies is not a single country, rather it is a group of 15 different countries and regions of the Caribbean Islands. Since each country involved, such as Jamaica, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, has its own national anthem and flag, playing the national anthem of any one country would have been biased towards the other countries. For this reason the West Indies team does not have its own national anthem.
What do West Indies players sing on the field?
If the West Indies cricket team does not have its own national anthem, then what do their players sing on the field? Actually, West Indies sing their own cricket anthem ‘Rally, rally ’round the West Indies, now and forever’. This anthem was written and composed by Trinidad’s famous calypso singer David Rudder in the 1980s. However, this anthem was officially adopted by the West Indies team during 1999–2000.
This anthem was written when the bad phase of the West Indies cricket team started so that people could be united in supporting the team again. Not only this, the flag of West Indies also does not belong to any one country. It has a palm tree and a cricket stump, which is a symbol of the cricket culture of the entire Caribbean region.
