Amid increasing tension in West Asia, Israel carried out an air strike on Iran’s Khondab (Arak) Heavy Water Plant. Now the International Nuclear Agency (IAEA) has confirmed that this plant has been badly damaged and is no longer working. According to IAEA, this information has been given on the basis of satellite images and technical analysis.
Why is Khondab Plant so important?
This plant is located near Arak city of Iran and is also called Arak Nuclear Complex. Here ‘heavy water’ is made, which is used in special types of nuclear reactors. According to experts, plutonium can also be made from such a reactor, which can be used in nuclear weapons. This is the reason why this plant has been a subject of international concern for a long time.
What was said in the IAEA report?
The IAEA has clearly stated that the plant has suffered serious damage, is no longer operational and no declared nuclear material was present there. This means that there is no possibility of radiation or immediate nuclear danger.
Why did Israel attack?
The Israeli Army (IDF) claimed that the attack was carried out on the basis of intelligence. He says that this plant was an important part of Iran’s nuclear program. Despite international agreements, Iran did not make it completely safe and there was a danger of it producing weapons-grade plutonium in the future. The Israeli Army has named this operation ‘Rising Lion’.
Increasing tension and further danger
After this attack, tension has increased further in West Asia. Tension is already at its peak between Iran and Israel, and now such action could worsen the situation. Experts believe that international pressure and diplomatic activity on this issue may intensify in the coming days.
