The Foreign Ministry said that the situation in West Asia and the Gulf region is changing rapidly. In such a situation, the Government of India is constantly monitoring the situation of the Indian citizens present there. According to the ministry, the safety and convenience of Indians who were stranded in transit or had gone to these countries for a short period of time is being given priority. The government has appealed to all Indian citizens to follow the guidelines of the local administration and the advice of the Indian Embassy or Consulate.

How many Indians have returned safely to India so far?

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, between March 1 and March 7, 2026, more than 52 thousand Indians have returned safely to India from the Gulf region. The ministry said that these passengers also include those who were stuck in transit while traveling to other countries. After partial opening of airspace, passengers have been brought back through several commercial and special flights. This has brought great relief to thousands of families.

What was the role of Indian airlines?

According to the government, among the passengers returning to India, 32 thousand 107 people have traveled by flights of Indian airlines. Indian airlines played an important role in the return of stranded people by operating additional and special flights. Apart from this, some foreign airlines also operated flights to bring back the passengers. This allowed the withdrawal process to proceed faster.

What arrangements has the government made to help the people?

The Ministry of External Affairs said that in view of the situation, a special control room has also been created. This control room is working 24 hours and responding to the problems of stranded Indians and their families. Apart from this, Indian Embassy and Consulates in the respective countries have also started 24-hour helplines so that people can get immediate assistance in case of need.

The Ministry of External Affairs said that there are plans to operate more flights in the coming days. Indians present in countries where commercial flights are not currently available have been advised to contact their nearest Indian Embassy or Consulate. The government said that the safety and welfare of Indians living abroad is its biggest priority and all possible help will be provided if needed.
