A small trick has created a stir in the world of technology these days! A viral post on social media has claimed that millions of AirPods users have been wearing their premium wireless earbuds incorrectly for years.
The pictures shared in the post showed that most people leave the AirPods by pushing them straight into the ear, leaving the stem (bottom part) hanging. But this is not the right way to put it. A person claimed to know the correct method and after that a debate broke out on social media. After all, what is this method and is it really right?
Told me such a trick
Depending on the person, first gently insert the AirPod into the ear, then twist the stem slightly towards the face (mouth side). This makes it a perfect fit, the sound quality increases bass and clarity, the noise cancellation works stronger and the risk of falling in the gym or running is reduced. This post went viral so fast that it received millions of views, shares and comments on Instagram, Facebook, Threads and X. People were divided into two camps—one group saying, “Yes, I always do it like this, it feels great!” The second group is in opposition, “Nonsense! The stem being towards the mouth blocks the microphone, impairs call quality and makes tap controls difficult.”
After all, what is the right way?
The debate on social media became so heated that many users confirmed Grok. Grok replied, “According to Apple’s official guidelines, after inserting the AirPods (especially Pro, 3rd and 4th generation), rotate the stem towards the face for a good fit. Many people skip this step.” This answer of Grok has further instigated the debate. Apple’s support page clearly states: “Gently press AirPods in your ears and rotate toward your face. Your AirPods should feel snug and secure.” The Pro model has an Ear Tip Fit Test feature—run it on your iPhone to see if the fit is correct. With a proper fit, ANC (Active Noise Cancellation) works better, the heart rate sensor (in Pro) gives accurate readings and battery life is not affected. Many users tried it and said that the fit became so tight that it did not fall even while running. But some say that this method does not suit the shape of their ears and due to the mic being away from the mouth, there is a problem in voice calls.
