The weather has started changing in different parts of the country. According to the latest update of the Meteorological Department, there may be light rain and snowfall in the higher reaches of Uttarakhand, while in North-West India the minimum temperature may drop by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius during the next 48 hours. On the other hand, due to the effect of low pressure in South India, Andaman-Nicobar and surrounding sea areas, there is a possibility of rain, thunder and strong winds.

According to the Meteorological Department, an active western disturbance is affecting North Rajasthan and surrounding areas of Punjab and Haryana. This system extends to a height of about 3 to 7 kilometers from the ground, due to which changes are being seen in the weather of North-West India. Due to this effect, there has been light rain in some areas and there is a possibility of light rain or snowfall at some places in future also. With this, the cyclonic circulation over south-west Rajasthan has now reached around north-east Rajasthan. A trough is extending from North Konkan through Gujarat and East Rajasthan to North-East Rajasthan. Due to all these weather systems the atmosphere over North-West India remains unstable. There may be light rain or snowfall at some places in Uttarakhand. There is a possibility of increase in cold in high altitude areas, hence people living in hilly areas have been advised to remain alert. The subtropical westerly jet stream over Northeast India is active at a speed of about 115 knots, causing pressure in the upper atmosphere and fluctuating weather conditions.

Rain, strong winds forecast in island areas

The low pressure area formed near the equatorial Indian Ocean and south-west Bay of Bengal may gradually move towards Sri Lanka by moving in west-northwest direction. Due to its effect, there is a possibility of rain in South India and island areas. Andaman and Nicobar Islands may experience thunderstorms and strong winds at a speed of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour on February 19. After this, between 20 and 22 February, rain, lightning and strong winds are expected at isolated places in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala.

Weather may worsen in sea areas, warning to fishermen

The situation may worsen in maritime areas. Wind speed may increase from 40 to 50 kilometers per hour gusting to 60 kilometers per hour around the Gulf of Mannar and Comorin area. Strong winds of 45 to 55 km per hour are likely to prevail along south-west Bay of Bengal and east coast of Sri Lanka. The Meteorological Department has advised fishermen not to go into the sea.

Fluctuations in temperature will continue

Minimum temperatures may drop by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius in northwest India during the next 48 hours. After this, there will be no major change in the temperature for about five days, due to which the cold in the morning and night is likely to increase. The minimum temperature in eastern India will remain almost constant for the next two days, after which it may increase by 2 to 3 degrees. In Maharashtra and Gujarat also, the minimum temperature is expected to gradually increase by 2 to 3 degrees in the coming days. Talking about the maximum temperature, there may be a drop of 2 to 4 degrees in the next 24 hours in the plains of North-West India. After this the temperature may increase for two days and then the situation is likely to remain normal. In Gujarat, Maharashtra and Goa the temperature will also remain stable for two days, then it may increase gradually.
