The weather of North India is going to change again. There are chances of rain and snowfall in the coming days in the western Himalayan regions, while the temperature will rise rapidly in the plains. This change in weather is believed to be due to active western disturbance and trough formed in the upper atmosphere. The cold may intensify again in the mountains, while the cold will appear to weaken in the plains.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of light rain and snowfall in high altitude areas in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand around 13 and 16 February. On the contrary, in the plain areas including Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, the sun will be strong and the day temperature will go up. A gradual increase in the minimum temperature is also being recorded.

Impact of Western Disturbance and Trough

According to the Meteorological Department, a cyclonic circulation has formed over Punjab and adjacent North Pakistan at a height of about 3.1 kilometers. Also a trough is active at middle and upper levels. A Western Disturbance is already in effect and two new weak Western Disturbances may affect the Western Himalayan region from 13 and 16 February. Due to these systems, conditions of clouds, rain and snowfall are being created in the hilly states.

Severe cold in Himachal

Fresh snowfall has been recorded in the higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh. New snowfall has been confirmed in Rohtang Pass and Shinkula Pass area. The minimum temperature was recorded at minus 8.5 degrees Celsius in Tabo of Lahaul-Spiti. This is quite low at this time. Dense fog was also seen in many plains in the morning, affecting visibility.

Condition of Uttarakhand and plain states

The weather is expected to be dry in most of the districts of Uttarakhand, but there may be fog in the morning and evening in the plains like Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar. There are chances of light rain and snowfall on the scheduled dates in the hilly areas. In many states of Eastern India, the minimum temperature may increase by two to three degrees Celsius in the next three days. After that the temperature is expected to remain almost constant.

Strong wind warning for marine areas

Cyclonic circulation persists over south-east Bay of Bengal and surrounding sea areas. Due to this, strong winds can blow at a speed of 35 to 45 kilometers per hour, which can reach up to 55 kilometers per hour in gusts. The Meteorological Department has advised fishermen to check the latest weather warnings before going into the sea. People have been asked to avoid going into the sea in bad weather.
