At the same time, there was heavy snowfall in the high altitude areas of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. There has been heavy rain in Northeast India and flood like situations have arisen in many places. The changed weather brought relief to the common people from the heat, but the worries of the farmers and gardeners increased. There is a possibility of scattered rain in North-West India throughout this week and the temperature will drop by 2-4 degrees Celsius.
According to the latest bulletin of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), on Monday, there was rain with thunder and lightning and strong winds in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan. Heavy rainfall (7-11 cm) was recorded at isolated places over Tripura and Kerala. Hailstorm also occurred at isolated places in Haryana, Western Madhya Pradesh and Central Maharashtra. At the same time, rain was recorded at isolated places in Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Tripura, Odisha, Uttarakhand, Konkan, Maharashtra, Marathwada, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, Gujarat region.
Rain likely to continue this week: Meteorological Department
According to IMD, under the influence of two active western disturbances, rainfall is likely to continue over northwest India this week. There may be heavy rain on April 4. There is also a possibility of snowfall along with scattered heavy rainfall in Kashmir Valley. Scattered hailstorm is likely over central and eastern India and northern peninsular India on March 31. Scattered to widespread rainfall with thunderstorms and strong winds is likely over Northeast and adjoining East India during March 31 to April 1. Scattered rainfall with thunder, lightning and strong winds may continue over southern peninsular India. Maximum temperatures in northwest India, except Uttar Pradesh, may drop by 2-4 degrees Celsius.
Yellow alert of thunderstorm and hailstorm in Himachal today
In Himachal Pradesh, there was snowfall on the peaks of the state including Atal Tunnel Rohtang. Apple, wheat, peas and other crops have been damaged due to hailstorm in many areas of four districts Shimla, Mandi, Kullu and Kangra. Yellow alert of thunderstorm and hailstorm has been issued in Himachal on Tuesday also. The weather is expected to remain bad in the state till April 5. There was drizzle in the capital Shimla on Monday. In Chamba, there was a blackout in 300 villages due to the failure of 61 power transformers due to rain. At the same time, due to snowfall in the high altitude areas, the weather has returned to coolness in the morning and evening. Due to bad weather, a flight coming from Delhi had to be canceled at Gaggal Airport. In Seraj assembly constituency of district Mandi also, torrential rain and hailstorm along with strong thunderstorm caused huge damage.
Crops in danger due to hailstorm
IMD has issued hailstorm warning in many states including Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand. Hail can cause huge damage to wheat, gram and other Rabi crops. There is also a possibility of tree branches breaking and power lines being affected due to strong winds, due to which power supply may be disrupted in many areas. There is a danger of hailstorm in some parts of West Madhya Pradesh. There is a possibility of rain and hailstorm along with strong winds in the central part of Maharashtra and Marathwada, which may cause damage to crops.
Northeast in danger of waterlogging, relief to the South
There is an alert of heavy rain with thunder and lightning in the northeastern states of Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. In many areas, rainfall may range from 64.5 to 155.5 mm, due to which the water level of rivers is likely to rise and create a situation of waterlogging. Situations like water logging in urban areas and floods in rural areas can occur. Light to moderate rain and thundershower activities may continue over the South Indian states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Although the situation here is relatively less serious, there is still a need to be cautious due to changes in weather.
Fluctuation in temperature, decline recorded in North
Due to this change in weather, fluctuations in temperature are being seen across the country. There has been a drop in temperature in North India, due to which coolness is being felt. The maximum temperature in Akola, Maharashtra was recorded at 41.4 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature in Najibabad, Uttar Pradesh was 15.6 degrees Celsius. Due to this weather system active across the country, conditions of rain, storm, lightning and hailstorm may persist in the coming days. In such a situation, vigilance and timely preparation can prove to be the most effective solution to reduce losses.
