Virat Kohli chose the world’s most dangerous T20 opener

New Delhi: Indian cricket team’s veteran player Virat Kohli has raised his flag in all three formats of cricket. Although, sometimes questions have been raised on his strike rate in the T20 format, but no one can deny that Virat Kohli is one of the best top-order batsmen in the T20 format. His longevity in this format in the last 15 years, his ability to score runs and the way he has adapted to the changing formats is amazing.

Virat Kohli started his career in the middle-order and then confirmed his place at number three. Royal Challengers Bangalore promoted him to open, but when he was asked about the most dangerous opener in T20 cricket, everyone was surprised to hear the answer. Actually, RCB asked him the same question in an interview for the IPL 2026 season. He played this and that game in the interview, in which he was given two options and had to choose one every time.

Who did Virat call the dangerous opener of T20?

The game started with Adam Gilchrist. He chose Adam Gilchrist better than Sunil Narine, then the next comparison was between Gilchrist and another player. Ultimately the choice came between Chris Gayle and Rohit Sharma and Kohli chose his former RCB teammate Gayle. Kohli made it clear several times in the video that this comparison is only for T20 cricket.

Rohit Sharma cannot surpass Gayle as a T20 opener, but in ODIs, Kohli would count him among the best. The same applies to Sachin Tendulkar, whom Kohli placed below Virender Sehwag only because of the format, because Tendulkar played very little T20, while he had an excellent ODI and Test career.
