
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva is on a visit to India, where President Draupadi Murmu welcomed him at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Saturday night and hosted a banquet in his honour. Vice President CP Radhakrishnan and Prime Minister Narendra Modi also attended this royal feast. During this time, Brazilian President Lula da Silva in his special message emphasized the importance of education.
During this, while addressing President Murmu, he said, ‘Madam, you are the second woman to hold the post of President of the world’s most populous country and the first woman from the tribal community of India. This proves that investing in education is the best way to change the destiny of a country.
The President thanked him for his participation and valuable contribution in the AI Impact Summit. He also congratulated Brazil for successfully hosting the BRICS and COP-30 summits held last year.

At the banquet given in honor of Lula da Silva, President Draupadi Murmu said, ‘It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to India during this state visit. It is a special pleasure for us to once again welcome a true friend to New Delhi. I know this is your sixth visit to India. Our friendly relations have become stronger with each of your visits.
The President expressed happiness that the India-Brazil strategic partnership is making steady progress in a number of areas including trade and investment, defence, oil and gas, bio-fuels, agriculture and livestock, healthcare and traditional medicine, space, science and technology, digital cooperation and cyber security. Emphasizing that Brazil is India’s largest trading partner in Latin America. The President said that there is immense potential for expanding and diversifying bilateral trade.
India-Brazil cooperation in agriculture sector further strengthened
He said India is keen to expand the preferential trade agreement with Mercosur and is equally committed to deepening bilateral trade relations with Brazil. The President expressed happiness that India-Brazil cooperation in agriculture has strengthened in recent years. He said that our business in primary and secondary products as well as agro chemicals is quite good. He stressed the need to promote research and technology transfer in areas such as crop production, irrigation technology, post-harvest management and biotechnology.
During this, both the leaders agreed that there is immense potential to further deepen India-Brazil bilateral cooperation. President Draupadi Murmu expressed confidence that relations between India and Brazil will further strengthen under the leadership of President Lula.
Lula da Silva’s fifth visit to India
Let us tell you that Brazilian President Lula da Silva reached India on 18 February. He participated in the India AI Impact Summit during 19-20 February. This is Lula’s fifth visit to India as President of Brazil. This visit is taking place seven months after Prime Minister Modi’s state visit to Brazil on July 8, 2025.
