Madrasas of the state will have to seek fresh recognition for religious education from the academic session 2026-27. They will be recognized by the State Minority Education Authority. Recognition will be given on the condition that the madrassas will have to teach the course prepared by the authority for religious education.
It has been clarified in the Uttarakhand Minority Education Bill 2025 that any madrassa recognized by the Uttarakhand Madrassa Education Board in the state will be able to continue providing education only till the end of the academic session 2025-26. Such madrassas will have to seek re-recognition to provide religious education from the academic session 2026-27.
The Act also states that on an application for recognition of an educational institution as a minority educational institution, the authority will have the power to officially grant recognition to the educational institution as a minority educational institution or to reject it on the basis of the mandatory conditions mentioned in section 14.
Uttarakhand: In 30 out of 54 madrassas, there is not a single student at high school intermediate level, the board is ending from July 1.
