Called as employee of Gas Limited
According to the information received, the thugs called, posing as employees of Mahanagar Gas Limited and said that their gas bill was outstanding. If the bill is not updated immediately, the gas connection will be disconnected. The thugs created an atmosphere of fear and asked them to download an APK file. As soon as the victim downloaded the file, the thugs gained access to his mobile and withdrew Rs 70 thousand from his account.
It is being told that till now many people of Mumbai have been cheated of lakhs of rupees by threatening to disconnect their domestic gas connections. Especially elderly people are being targeted.
News of possible gas shortage is being taken advantage of
According to the information, cyber thugs are creating fear among the people by taking advantage of the news of possible shortage of gas due to the ongoing war in the Gulf countries. They are misleading people by showing the fear of gas supply being cut off.
Sometimes cyber thugs pretend to be officials of Mahanagar Gas Limited and sometimes make the excuse of outstanding bills and sometimes in the name of updating the bills, they make people download files on their mobiles and then withdraw money from their bank accounts.
