On Wednesday night at 11:30 pm, near Bhalla Farm Tirahe of Sohramau police station area on the Lucknow-Kanpur highway, a family riding a bike was crushed by a speeding truck while trying to escape after hitting the container. The couple and their two children died in the accident. The elder daughter of the deceased was saved because she was sitting on the bike of the brother-in-law who was coming from behind.
Virendra (35), son of Gurucharan, resident of Ajgain Kotwali and town, had gone with his family to Dayalkheda village of Banthra police station area of Lucknow on Wednesday to attend a marriage ceremony. After the conclusion of the program, he was returning home on a bike at night with his wife Ritu (33), daughter Anuradha (9), and son Rudra (6). Elder daughter Nancy (15) was sitting in the bike of Virendra’s brother-in-law Ranjit who was coming along. Virendra was moving ahead on the bike.
Not seeing brother-in-law Ranjit coming behind near Bhalla Farm intersection, he stopped the bike and started waiting for him. Then a speeding truck hit the container moving ahead due to which the container overturned on the highway. While trying to escape, the truck went out of control and crushed the bike riding family.
The couple and their two children died in the accident. The elder daughter was with brother-in-law Ranjit, so she was saved. On receiving information about the accident, the police arrived and immediately took the dead bodies to the shore. Police Station Head Arvind Pandey said that all four bodies have been sent for post-mortem. The truck has been seized.
