The budget session of the Legislature will begin today with the address of Governor Anandiben Patel. During this period, the opposition will corner the state government on many issues including Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter list, smuggling of codeine cough syrup, foreign policy, unemployment, women’s safety. Especially the members of Samajwadi Party can create ruckus on these issues during the address. Tight security arrangements have also been made at the Vidhan Bhavan for the budget session.

Before the beginning of the budget session, an all-party meeting and a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee was held on Sunday, in which all the parties assured cooperation in running the House smoothly. On Monday, the first session of the year 2026 will start with the national song ‘Vande Mataram’. After this, the address will be read out by Governor Anandiben Patel, which will include information about the achievements and schemes of the state government.

During the address, members of both the houses will be present in the main pavilion of the Assembly. After this, legislative work will also be completed by the state government. On Tuesday, the proceedings of the Assembly will be adjourned till Wednesday after paying tribute to the deceased former and present members. On Wednesday the state government will present the budget for the financial year 2026-27.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has said that there should be a healthy discussion in the House. Healthy discussion leads to development of the state and solution to people’s problems. As a public representative, every issue related to public interest should be discussed smoothly in the House. All members should take care that there are no obstacles in the functioning of the House.

Democracy is strengthened by dialogue and positive discussion in the parliamentary system. Consent and disagreement are an integral part of democracy. All members will be given adequate opportunity to express their views. If necessary, the proceedings of the House will be conducted till late evening.
