
Taking major action in the famous flood relief scam of the year 2021, the police has arrested Sheopur Tehsildar Amita Singh Tomar. On Thursday, Baroda police station detained him from his residence in Gwalior. After this, she was brought to Sheopur and presented in the court, from where the court ordered to send her to women’s jail Shivpuri in judicial custody. Female Tehsildar has also won Rs 50 lakh in KBC.
According to the information, Amita Singh Tomar was posted in Baroda Tehsil at the time when allegations of serious irregularities in the distribution of relief funds to the flood affected people came to light. The investigation revealed that during compensation distribution, payments were made to fictitious and ineligible names, while genuine victims were deprived of relief. In this entire episode, the loss to the government exchequer is estimated to be around Rs 2.5 crore.
After investigating the matter, the police registered a case against him under the Prevention of Corruption Act in Baroda police station. The arrest action was taken after sufficient evidence was found in the long-running investigation. It is being told that an organized network was active to carry out the scam, in which involvement of many people is suspected.
Amita Singh Tomar was currently posted as Tehsildar in Vijaypur of Sheopur district. He was removed from his post a day before his arrest. According to police sources, to avoid arrest he had filed bail petitions in the High Court and the Supreme Court, but he did not get relief.
Confirming the arrest, Sheopur Superintendent of Police Sudhir Aggarwal said that the investigation of the case is ongoing and the role of other accused may also come to light during the interrogation. More arrests are possible in the coming time.
