Elk Grove Village police are searching for young scofflaws who broke multiple traffic laws while riding electric bicycles and motorized dirt bikes through town Monday.
More than 15 riders were part of the group, police said in a Facebook post. Authorities believe they were children.
They drove through red lights, weaved through traffic and broke other traffic laws, creating a dangerous situation for themselves and others, before fleeing from officers, police said.
The riders’ actions were recorded by surveillance cameras on Biesterfield Road at Wellington Avenue, near village hall. Some wore helmets that hid their faces.
As of this month, e-bike riders must have valid driver’s licenses to operate on streets in Elk Grove Village, and they must obey local and state road rules.
Additionally, riding electric dirt bikes and motorbikes on public streets or sidewalks is illegal in Illinois. They may only be used on private property.
