By how many runs do we need to defeat Zimbabwe? What is the mathematics of semi-finals to chase the target?
New Delhi. For the Indian cricket team, the defeat against South Africa in the first match of the ICC T20 World Cup Super 8 made the path to the semi-finals difficult. The big defeat of 76 runs caused a lot of damage to the net run rate. Now the team will have to win both its matches at any cost and that too by a big margin. India and Zimbabwe will face each other in the second Super 8 match on Thursday, 26 February. This match is important for both the teams, especially for defending champion India.
With the defeat from South Africa, Team India’s Net Run Rate (NRR) also deteriorated significantly. Due to which the hopes of reaching the semi-finals have reduced. However, a comeback is possible for India. For this, he will have to follow the mathematics made for the semi-finals in his remaining two matches. If Team India registers a big win in the remaining Super 8 matches, then there is a chance to remain in the race for the semi-finals.
How big a win does India need against Zimbabwe?
The toss is not in the hands of any captain, in such a situation India can get the responsibility of either batting or bowling first. If India bats first and scores more than 190 runs, then Team India will have to all out Zimbabwe within 130 runs and win by more than 60 runs. However, a win of 80 or more runs will be considered the best.
In how many overs will the target be chased?
If India is chasing the target, then Team India will have to restrict Zimbabwe within 130 runs and achieve the target in 10 to 12 overs. In the current situation, a win of 30 to 40 runs will not compensate for the net run rate. Overall, India will have to win the next match by 70 or more runs or achieve the target within 12 overs.
After this, West Indies will also have to be defeated easily and we will have to hope that South Africa wins all its matches. This match between India and Zimbabwe will be played on 26 February at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The last match of Super 8 will be against West Indies on March 1 at the historic Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
