Bangladesh came to its senses, pleaded with BCCI, ICC had to face heavy consequences

T20 World Cup: Bangladesh refused to come to India for the World Cup matches citing security concerns. The ICC, headed by former BCCI secretary Jay Shah, had rejected Bangladesh’s concerns. However, Bangladesh remained firm on its stand, after which it was thrown out of the tournament and its place was given to Scotland.

Bangladesh Cricket Board vs ICC vs BCCI
Dhaka: Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief Aminul Islam has said that he will go to Colombo to watch the T20 World Cup match between India and Pakistan on Sunday and he hopes that his relations with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will improve after the tense atmosphere of the last few weeks.
Islam told Bangladeshi newspaper ‘Pratham Alo’ that he has received an invitation from the International Cricket Council (ICC) for this high-profile match. He said:
ICC has taken a decision. ICC’s main stakeholders are these five Asian countries and they want representatives of all five Asian countries to be present together in the stadium for the match between India and Pakistan on February 15, watch the match and talk to each other.
India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan are important members of ICC in Asia. Islam was asked whether this meeting would help in ending his strained relations with the BCCI, he said, ‘You can consider it that way.’
Controversy started with Mustafizur’s departure
The dispute between BCCI and BCB started when the Indian board ordered the release of Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman from the IPL contract of Kolkata Knight Riders due to some unknown circumstances. There was speculation that the move was inspired by the political violence in Bangladesh, in which Hindus were targeted.
ICC shocked Bangladesh
Islam said that the board will prepare a memorandum of understanding to ensure that the assurances received by them from the ICC are finalised. He said, ‘We will also make an agreement. This will be a document like a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), so that there is no uncertainty. Discussions with ICC (regarding preparation of MoU) are almost at the final stage.
