
1. MS Dhoni
In the first edition of the T20 World Cup, the Indian team won the title under the leadership of MS Dhoni. Team India had defeated Pakistan in the final and captured the title. Dhoni also has the record of winning most matches in the T20 World Cup. He captained Team India in six editions of the T20 World Cup. Under Dhoni’s captaincy, India played 33 matches in the T20 World Cup and won 21. There were defeats in 11 matches and one match remained inconclusive.
2. Younis Khan
In 2009, Pakistan won the title under the captaincy of Younis Khan. In the final, Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka by eight wickets. However, after this Pakistan could never win the T20 World Cup. Under the captaincy of Younis, Pakistan played seven matches in the T20 World Cup and won five. The team lost in two. Younis was removed from the captaincy only after the 2009 T20 World Cup. Shahid Afridi was the captain in 2010.
3. Paul Collingwood
In 2010, England captured the title under the captaincy of Paul Collingwood. England defeated Australia by seven wickets in the final. However, Collingwood’s record of winning matches in the T20 World Cup as captain is not good. Under his captaincy, England played a total of 17 matches in the T20 World Cup and won eight. The team lost in eight matches. One match remained inconclusive.
4. Darren Sammy
The most successful captain (in terms of titles) in T20 World Cup history, Sammy made West Indies the champion of this format for the first time in 2012. The team comprising Chris Gayle, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine won the title by defeating Sri Lanka by 36 runs in the final. After this, under his captaincy in 2016 also, the West Indies team became champion by defeating England. He is the only captain to win two T20 World Cups. Under Sammy’s captaincy, West Indies has played a total of 18 matches in the T20 World Cup and won 11. The team had to face defeat in five. One match was tied and one match was inconclusive.
