The political chessboard has started to be laid for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections 2027. Former minister Hemraj Verma, who left Samajwadi Party and joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the last civic elections, has recently met SP Chief Akhilesh Yadav.
Hemraj Verma’s meeting with Akhilesh Yadav is indicating that the former minister is now disillusioned with BJP and is in the mood to ‘return home’. If sources are to be believed, Hemraj Verma can also announce his claim on SP ticket from Sadar Assembly seat of Pilibhit.
Left Akhilesh Yadav two and a half years ago
Hemraj Verma had left Akhilesh Yadav’s SP and joined BJP in the 2023 civic elections. Now due to this step of the former minister, the political temperature has become high in Pilibhit. Hemraj Verma was looking calm for a long time. Now his meeting with Akhilesh Yadav has created a stir in the political circles of BJP as well.
Who is Hemraj Verma?
Hemraj Verma is considered a grassroots leader. His political career started from the post of Pradhan. Akhilesh Yadav had started his MLA career. In the year 2012, while contesting on SP ticket in Barkheda Assembly, he got around 69000 votes and became SP MLA for the first time.
Became Minister of State while doing morning walk
It is said that during his tenure, Akhilesh Yadav had suddenly made Hemraj Verma a minister while forming the new government. Hemraj was taking a morning walk when Akhilesh Yadav called him to Lucknow in the afternoon and administered the oath of office as Minister of State for Food and Logistics Department.
Later, Hemraj Verma could not win the UP Assembly elections 2017. He got only 47000 votes. After this, in the next election he got more than 71 thousand votes but even then he could not win.
