Benchmark indices maintained their upward momentum in afternoon trade on Monday, with the Sensex trading at 83,983.84, up 403.44 points or 0.48 per cent from its previous close of 83,580.40. The Nifty 50 was at 25,838.90, up by 145.20 points or 0.57 per cent from its previous close of 25,693.70.
State Bank of India continued to drive the rally, advancing 6.66 per cent to ₹1,137.40, while Shriram Finance gained 4.20 per cent to ₹1,044.60. Tata Steel rose 2.35 per cent to ₹201.69, Grasim Industries climbed 2.33 per cent to ₹2,902.90, and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles added 2.18 per cent to ₹377.55.
The Nifty Bank index outperformed with a gain of 454.00 points or 0.76 per cent to 60,580.55, while the Nifty Financial Services index rose 283.20 points or 1.02 per cent to 28,090.30. Broader markets showed stronger momentum, with the Nifty Midcap 100 up 1.23 per cent at 60,234.85 and the Nifty Smallcap 100 surging 2.13 per cent to 17,300.00.
Max Healthcare led the decliners, falling 1.43 per cent to ₹1,025.00. ITC declined 0.92 per cent to ₹322.80, ICICI Bank dropped 0.86 per cent to ₹1,394.00, Infosys lost 0.86 per cent to ₹1,494.20, and Nestle India slipped 0.52 per cent to ₹1,296.50.
Market breadth remained positive on the BSE, with 3,005 stocks advancing against 1,146 declining and 181 unchanged among 4,332 stocks traded. A total of 128 stocks hit 52-week highs, while 79 touched 52-week lows. Additionally, 211 stocks hit the upper circuit limit, compared to 140 that hit the lower circuit limit.
The Nifty Next 50 index gained 514.20 points or 0.74 per cent to 69,572.60. Trading volumes remained elevated, with the State Bank of India recording a turnover of ₹3,05,296.35 lakh on volumes of 2,70,20,724 shares, while Tata Steel saw a turnover of ₹1,01,166.78 lakh.
