The Supreme Court has rejected the petition challenging the Karnataka government’s decision to invite Booker Award winner Banu Mushtaq for the inauguration of Mysuru Dussehra this year. In this case, the petitioners said that it is unfair to give non-Hindu right to traditional worship. Please tell that the Karnataka High Court had already dismissed the matter.
In the petition filed in the Supreme Court, the petitioners had said that Dussehra is starting from September 22, so immediate hearing of the case is necessary. He argues that worshiping Agreshwari by a non-Hindu is going to hurt religious sentiments. After which Chief Justice BR Gavai agreed to list for hearing on Friday.
Petition dismissed as soon as he heard argument
On Friday, a bench of Justice Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta dismissed the case after a brief hearing. On behalf of the petitioner, senior advocate PB Suresh argued that no non-Hindu person can be allowed to worship. Justice Nath ruled on this … ‘rejected’.
After this, Suresh argued that worshiping inside the temple cannot be considered a secular act. He said, this is completely political … There is no reason that they are brought inside the temple for religious activity. Justice Nath again repeated on his argument … ‘dismissed’. The senior advocate alleged that the invited person had made some objectionable comments in the past to hurt religious sentiments in the past. The lawyer further said that such a person cannot be invited. Justice Nath again reiterated that the case has been rejected. Justice Nath commented saying, “We have called ‘dismissed’ thrice.” How many times do you need to dismiss?

High court had dismissed petitions
On 15 September, the Karnataka High Court dismissed four PILs filed on the matter. One of these petitions was filed by former BJP MP Pratap Singha. The court had clearly stated that inaugurating the program organized by the state government by a person of a different religion is not a violation of the Constitution or any legal provision.
On September 3, the Mysuru district administration formally invited Mushtaq to the inauguration. After this, BJP and other anti -groups objected strongly. He says that Mushtaq has given such statements earlier which have been considered “anti -Hindu” and “anti -Kannada”.
