‘Saint should not be afraid of criticism’, HC comments in story writer Aniruddhacharya case

Delhi High Court made an important comment regarding narrator Aniruddhacharya and said that a person who gives spiritual sermons should be above things like criticism, praise and his reputation. Actually Aniruddhacharya has approached Delhi High Court. He says that some of his video clips are being made viral on social media, which has created controversy. Cases are also being registered against him at many places. They allege that by editing some videos or with the help of AI, they are being shown as if they are saying some controversial things.

Judge asked questions to Aniruddhacharya on filing petition in HC

During the hearing of the case in Delhi High Court, Justice Tushar Rao Gedela first raised the question that why Aniruddhacharya filed the petition in Delhi High Court only when he lives in Vrindavan. The judge said that the material available on the Internet can be viewed anywhere in the world. The judge said in a light tone that this material could also be available on Mars or Jupiter. The question is where people are watching it.

When the lawyer argued that most of Aniruddhacharya’s audience was in Delhi, the judge said that such a petition could have been filed in any High Court or District Court of the country. He also said that if Calcutta High Court or Allahabad High Court had given any order, would Google or other companies not obey it?

Justice Gedela also said that he does not understand why everyone comes to Delhi High Court for such petitions. He said that other courts of the country are also capable of giving orders in such cases. When the lawyer said that Aniruddhacharya also has some business in Delhi, the judge smiled and said, ‘Ok, you have business also.’ During the hearing, the judge made an important comment and said that a person who gives spiritual philosophy and life lessons should not be afraid of criticism. The court said that you teach people the philosophy of life. You should be above criticism, praise and recognition. You cannot be attached to your reputation or it would go against your teachings.

Citing the example of history, the Delhi High Court said that people used to disagree with the views of Adi Shankaracharya but he never filed defamation cases. He used to debate with people and express his views logically.

However, during the hearing, Aniruddhacharya’s lawyer also said that some videos have been made with deepfake technology and he is being shown giving statements which he never gave. On this the court accepted that if fake videos are being made to harm a person’s image then it is a serious matter.

Court gives interim relief to storyteller Aniruddhacharya

After hearing the case, Delhi High Court has issued an interim order to protect the personality rights of Aniruddhacharya. That is, until the matter is completely resolved, steps can be taken to stop misuse of their image or name. Now in the next hearing of this case, the court will decide what further action should be taken against the videos and content going viral on social media.
