Giving a befitting reply to Kirti Azad’s criticism on taking the trophy to the temple, Gambhir has already said that such statements only insult the hard work of the players. Gambhir, who won the World Cup after the Champions Trophy and Asia Cup, made it clear that there is no place for politics between celebration of victory and faith.

New Delhi. After creating history in the T20 World Cup, Indian team’s head coach Gautam Gambhir reached Gurudwara Sri Rakab Ganj Sahib in Delhi. There he bowed and thanked Waheguru for becoming world champion. However, amidst this celebration of victory, a new controversy has arisen regarding faith. The controversy started when former cricketer and TMC MP Kirti Azad criticized Gambhir, Suryakumar Yadav and Jay Shah taking the trophy to the Hanuman Temple in Ahmedabad. Azad said that sports and players have no religion or caste. He argued that it is not appropriate to link the victory of the team of 140 crore Indians with any one religion.
Gautam Gambhir rejected these criticisms outright and called them ‘not even worth replying’. Speaking to ANI, Gambhir said, ‘Making such statements is just undermining the hard work and achievements of 15 players. If you talk like this, you are letting down your own team and players, which is absolutely wrong. Gambhir made it clear that this is a proud moment for the entire country and the focus should be on celebration and not on controversial statements.
