
An incident of alleged vandalism disrupted the ‘World Cultural Festival’ organized at MIT World Peace University (MIT-WPU), Kothrud. Members of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), the youth wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), reportedly vandalized a Bangladeshi food stall on the campus and set fire to the Bangladeshi flag. After the incident a tense atmosphere was created in the area.
According to preliminary information, the incident occurred during the annual cultural event, which showcases food, music and traditions of different countries and is attended by Indian and international students. The police have started their investigation regarding this matter. CCTV footage of the time of the incident is being scrutinized by the police. The police have assured to take appropriate action against those involved in the incident.
What did the eyewitnesses say about the incident?
Eyewitnesses said that some youths entered the university campus and targeted the stall representing Bangladesh, leading to chaos between the students and the organisers. Meanwhile, the workers have also raised slogans against the anti-national stance of Bangladesh.
He further said that the World Cultural Festival is an annual event. The aim is to celebrate cultural diversity and give a platform to international students to present their traditions, similar to the events organized every year by other universities of Pune.

While the university said it is committed to ensuring a safe, respectful and inclusive environment for all, police officials, on the other hand, said they are verifying the details of the incident and will take appropriate action against the culprits after reviewing the CCTV footage and eyewitness statements.
