
The spark of protest has once again flared up regarding the new rules of the University Grant Commission i.e. UGC. In the religious city of Haridwar, protests from saints and sages have been seen regarding the new rules of the UGC. People of Sant Samaj have protested against the new rules of UGC by holding banners in their hands.
In fact, a huge march of Sant Samaj started from Swami Sarvanand Ghat of religious city Haridwar in protest against UGC. Sages and followers including Yeti Narasimhanand, Adhir Kaushik and Yeti Ramswaroop Anand Giri participated in the yatra. The aim of the people involved in the demonstration was to protest against the new rules of UGC.
UGC’s proposed law called ‘black law’
The saints termed the proposed law of UGC as a “black law” and demanded immediate withdrawal of it from the Central Government. Slogans were raised during the yatra and it was said that ignoring the Sant Samaj in matters related to education and traditions will not be accepted under any circumstances.
Demonstration of strength at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi on March 8
According to the saints who participated in the padyatra, this padyatra will reach Ramlila Maidan in Delhi on March 8, where a huge power display will be held at 12 noon. Pandit Adhir Kaushik alleged that this law is posing a threat to the future of the children of Swarna Samaj and it will not be tolerated at any cost. Sant Samaj has appealed to more and more people to reach Delhi and show their solidarity and has warned that if the law is not withdrawn, the movement will be intensified.
Supreme Court has put a stay on the new rules of UGC
According to BBC report, on January 13, 2026, UGC had issued new regulations to prevent discrimination in colleges and universities in India. However, the Supreme Court has banned the new rules of UGC related to maintaining equality in higher educational institutions. The Supreme Court said that the new rules raise important questions which, if ignored, can have ‘very far reaching consequences’ and can ‘divide the society’.
