
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be on a two-day visit to Israel from Wednesday. This visit is taking place on the invitation of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The Ministry of External Affairs issued a statement on Tuesday about the visit saying that PM Modi will meet Prime Minister Netanyahu during the visit.
The statement said the two leaders will review the significant progress made in the India-Israel strategic partnership and discuss opportunities for cooperation in various areas including science and technology, innovation, defense and security, agriculture, water management, trade and economy and people-to-people exchanges. The two leaders are also expected to discuss regional and global issues of mutual interest. PM Modi will also meet Israeli President Isaac Herzog.
PM Modi’s second visit to Israel
This is Modi’s second visit to Israel as Prime Minister. Earlier, he had visited Israel in 2017 and then he became the first Indian Prime Minister to visit this Jewish majority country. This visit of PM Modi can prove to be a milestone in India’s military modernization.
On Tuesday, just ahead of the PM’s visit, Israel’s Consul General to India Yaniv Revach said, we are ready to give India our world famous Iron Dome air defense system, along with technology. This will not be just a purchase deal, but these systems will be manufactured in India under Make in India.
Obviously, PM Modi’s visit is not just going to be a political and diplomatic one, but is going to write a chapter of deep defense partnership. Not only this, Israeli Ambassador to India Reuven Azar also said that Israel is ready to give such confidential technologies to India, which has not been given till now. Azar said that India and Israel will jointly develop new methods to deal with the challenges of terrorism. Both countries will also work together on missile defense systems.
