Amidst the no-confidence motion brought by the opposition against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju has made serious allegations against the Congress. He said that many Congress MPs went to the Speaker’s chamber and abused him. According to Rijiju, Speaker Om Birla is very hurt by this incident. Speaking to reporters, Rijiju said that he himself had spoken to the Lok Sabha Speaker on this issue.
He told that about 20-25 Congress MPs reached the Speaker’s chamber and abused him. Rijiju also claimed that when this was happening, senior Congress leaders Priyanka Gandhi and KC Venugopal were also present there and instead of opposing it, they were instigating their MPs further.
What did Rijiju say on the controversy over speaking in the House?
Rijiju also mentioned the controversy regarding speaking in the House. He said that the Speaker had given a decision, but it was not followed. According to him, Rahul Gandhi said that he does not need anyone’s permission to speak and he will speak as per his wish. On this, Rijiju said that the rules in Parliament are very clear, no member can speak without the permission of the Speaker.
He also said that even the Prime Minister speaks only when the Speaker gives permission. Every member has to follow the rules. He said that the speaker has a very calm nature, otherwise strict action could have been taken on such an incident.
Congress’s proposal on removal of Lok Sabha Speaker
Let us tell you that this entire controversy has come to light when Congress has given notice of no-confidence motion to remove Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. According to sources in the Lok Sabha Secretariat, the discussion on this proposal can take place on March 9, the first day of the second phase of the budget session.
Sources also said that some shortcomings have been found in the notice of no-confidence motion given by the opposition. It is being told that the events of February 2025 have been mentioned four times in the notice, which could have caused a technical objection as per the rules. However, the Speaker has directed the Lok Sabha Secretariat to correct whatever deficiencies there are in the notice and complete the further process.
