US-brokered Israel-UAE alliance shows strain as Iran tensions escalate

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

The U.S.-brokered alliance designed to counter Iran in the Middle East is showing signs of strain amid tensions between Israel and the United Arab Emirates, an analyst says, as the possibility of a broader conflict with Tehran intensified Sunday.

The friction first surfaced May 13 after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said he held a “historic breakthrough” meeting with UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan during a “secret visit” to Al Ain near the Oman border.

The UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a swift denial following the announcement.

The ministry said, “Its relations with Israel are public and were established within the framework of the well-known and publicly declared Abraham Accords. These relations are not based on secrecy or clandestine arrangements.”

It added, “Therefore, any claims regarding undisclosed visits or arrangements are baseless unless issued by the relevant official authorities in the UAE.”

“The stakes are high,” Middle East Institute analyst Natan Sachs told Fox News Digital.

“I imagine the Israelis are working overtime to mend relations with the UAE, but it is too early to tell,” he said.

President Donald Trump spoke with Netanyahu on Sunday as tensions over Iran escalated and with the Israeli leader saying he was “prepared for every scenario.”

The leaders discussed the possibility of renewing the war with Iran as well as Trump’s recent trip to China, according to the Times of Israel.

Sachs, a senior fellow at the institute, said Netanyahu’s UAE meeting claim “seems like a diplomatic blunder because it embarrasses the UAE.”

(Alex Wong/Getty Images)

“This was an odd move to make since the UAE has been a close partner of Israel, even during this war,” Sachs said.

“Either Netanyahu didn’t think, or he was thinking about something else — domestic politics. It would not be the first time he did that.”

“To the degree that the Emirati anger is genuine, it would have meant working to preserve trust with their Gulf Arab ally,” Sachs added.

“I would also not rule out Emirati anger at the leak itself, which could be seen as a break of trust — something very important to the Emirati leadership.”

The Abraham Accords, brokered by the United States in 2020, fundamentally altered the regional balance by normalizing relations between Israel and the UAE, Bahrain, Morocco and Sudan.

Security cooperation has since expanded significantly due to shared concerns over Iran’s military ambitions.

That alliance was tested when Iran launched strikes against UAE military and energy infrastructure during Operation Epic Fury.

Israel is said to have deployed Iron Dome air-defense systems and personnel to the UAE, according to U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee. The UAE confirmed Sunday that it had intercepted three drones coming from the west.

“The UAE received much of the fire from Iran. It is the most vulnerable to Iranian short-range missiles, which are more plentiful and cheaper than the medium-range missiles fired at Israel,” Sachs said.

“While short-range missiles can be intercepted, Iran has many more of them. The UAE took the most hits, yet it stood out by sticking most clearly to its strategy of open partnership with Israel.”

“But the public disclosure that Netanyahu himself visited may have just been seen as a step too far,” Sachs added.

Spencer Pratt threatens to leave Los Angeles if he loses mayoral race

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Spencer Pratt’s love for Los Angeles may only extend through the primaries.

Pratt, 42, admitted that his time in the City of Angels may come to a close if the exit polls don’t align with his mayoral bid.

During a chat with fellow Los Angeleno Adam Carolla from his burned-out lot in the Pacific Palisades, the reality star said that he’s only interested in rebuilding his home if he wins the race.

“I’m going to win the lawsuit against Gavin Newsom’s state park, and with that money, if I’m the mayor of Los Angeles, I will rebuild,” Pratt confessed.

SPENCER PRATT FIRES BACK AS REPORTS SWIRL THAT HIS LA MAYORAL BID IS BEING FILMED FOR A REALITY SHOW

“If Karen Bass gets re-elected or Nithya [Raman] gets elected, I will be done with trying to live in LA.”

Pratt doubled down on his threat, and said when he wins the lawsuit, he’s packing up to find a new American Dream.

“I’ll take that money from the Newsom state park and the LADWP, and I’ll go somewhere that my kids will not have to see naked zombies, and I can have the last American dream somewhere,” Pratt said.

SPENCER PRATT ENTERS LA MAYOR RACE, ACCUSES CURRENT LEADERSHIP OF ‘CRIMINAL NEGLIGENCE’ OVER FIRE RESPONSE

“But I will not rebuild if these people are in charge, because what would I be putting money into?”

Pratt’s representatives did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

Pratt, wife Heidi Montag and more than a dozen additional property owners, blamed the city of Los Angeles and the Department of Water and Power for causing damages to their homes in a lawsuit filed earlier this year.

Plaintiffs accused LADWP of making “the conscious decision to operate the water supply system with the reservoir drained and unusable as a ‘cost-saving’ measure,” in the lawsuit obtained by Fox News Digital.

The “Hills” star has been a vocal champion for LA residents since losing his home during the deadly Palisades wildfire, and launched his mayoral campaign in January with a focus on ousting incumbent Karen Bass due to mishandling of the wildfires.

SPENCER PRATT SAYS A-LISTERS PRIVATELY CHEER HIS CRITICISM OF CALIFORNIA LEADERSHIP, FEAR CAREER FALLOUT

While Pratt is a registered Republican, the Los Angeles mayoral election is officially nonpartisan. If no candidate tops 50% in the June 2 primary, the top two finishers will face off in November.

Fresh from a star-studded fundraiser hosted by David Foster and Katharine McPhee, Pratt admitted a “mind-blowing” list of influential names back his campaign to save his city.

“The list of mind-blowing movie stars, directors, studio presidents, these are my supporters,” Pratt told the “Ruthless Podcast” earlier this month. “I understand why they aren’t public-facing yet. Once I’m mayor, the support I’ll have for the industry to bring it back. It’s all there.”

In the wake of the devastating 2025 fires, Pratt became a leading advocate for the victims.

“My goal was just for these people to go to jail,” Pratt said. “And then when they didn’t go to jail, and I saw that it was just business as usual, that’s when I decided the only way to stop these people is to take their power from them.”

ADAM CAROLLA CALLS LA FIRES ‘BOTTOMING OUT’ MOMENT THAT WILL FLIP HOLLYWOOD POLITICALLY

“I haven’t posted a single political thing in my entire life,” the former star of The Hills said. “The only thing I’ve ever done, politics-wise, is back in the day I did a paparazzi set-up photo with a Sarah Palin shirt on, and then the next day I did a paparazzi photo with an Obama shirt on just to get multiple tabloid photos.”

New Windows ‘MiniPlasma’ zero-day exploit gives SYSTEM access, PoC released

0

Windows

A cybersecurity researcher has released a proof-of-concept exploit for a Windows privilege escalation zero-day dubbed “MiniPlasma” that lets attackers gain SYSTEM privileges on fully patched Windows systems.

The exploit was published by a researcher known as Chaotic Eclipse, or Nightmare Eclipse, who released both the source code and a compiled executable on GitHub after claiming that Microsoft failed to properly patch a previously reported 2020 vulnerability.

According to the researcher, the flaw impacts the ‘cldflt.sys‘ Cloud Filter driver and its ‘HsmOsBlockPlaceholderAccess‘ routine, which was originally reported to Microsoft by Google Project Zero researcher James Forshaw in September 2020.

At the time, the flaw was assigned the CVE-2020-17103 identifier and reportedly fixed in December 2020.

“After investigating, it turns out the exact same issue that was reported to Microsoft by Google project zero is actually still present, unpatched,” explains Chaotic Eclipse.

“I’m unsure if Microsoft just never patched the issue or the patch was silently rolled back at some point for unknown reasons. The original PoC by Google worked without any changes.”

BleepingComputer tested the exploit on a fully patched Windows 11 Pro system running the latest May 2026 Patch Tuesday updates.

In our test, we used a standard user account, and after running the exploit, it opened a command prompt with SYSTEM privileges, as shown in the image below.

https://project-zero.issues.chromium.org/issues/42451192
MiniPlasma exploit successfully gave Windows SYSTEM privileges
Source: BleepingComputer

Will Dormann, principal vulnerability analyst at Tharros, also confirmed the exploit works in his tests on the latest public version of Windows 11. However, he said that the flaw does not work in the latest Windows 11 Insider Preview Canary build.

The exploit appears to abuse how the Windows Cloud Filter driver handles registry key creation through an undocumented CfAbortHydration API. Forshaw’s original report said that the flaw could allow arbitrary registry keys to be created in the .DEFAULT user hive without proper access checks, potentially enabling privilege escalation.

While Microsoft reports having fixed the bug as part of its December 2020 Microsoft Patch Tuesday, Chaotic Eclipse now claims the vulnerability can still be exploited.

BleepingComputer contacted Microsoft about this additional zero-day and will update this story if we receive a response.

Researcher behind the recent string of Windows zero-days

MiniPlasma is the latest in a string of Windows zero-day disclosures published by the researcher over the past several weeks.

The disclosure spree began in April with BlueHammer, a Windows local privilege escalation flaw tracked as CVE-2026-33825, followed by another privilege escalation vulnerability, RedSun, and a Windows Defender DoS tool, UnDefend.

After their disclosure, all three vulnerabilities were spotted being exploited in attacks. According to the researcher, Microsoft silently patched the RedSun issue without assigning it a CVE identifier.

This month, the researcher also released two additional exploits named YellowKey and GreenPlasma.

YellowKey is a BitLocker bypass affecting Windows 11 and Windows Server 2022/2025 that spawns a command shell that gives access to unlocked drives protected by TPM-only BitLocker configurations.

Chaotic Eclipse has previously stated that they are publicly disclosing these Windows zero-days in protest of Microsoft’s bug bounty and vulnerability-handling process.

“Normally, I would go through the process of begging them to fix a bug but to summarize, I was told personally by them that they will ruin my life and they did and I’m not sure if I was the only who had this horride experience or few people did but I think most would just eat it and cut their losses but for me, they took away everything,” alleged the researcher.

“They mopped the floor with me and pulled every childish game they could. It was soo bad at some point I was wondering if I was dealing with a massive corporation or someone who is just having fun seeing me suffer but it seems to be a collective decision.”

Microsoft previously told BleepingComputer that it supports coordinated vulnerability disclosure and is committed to investigating reported security issues and protecting customers through updates.

Caitlin Clark makes WNBA history after league corrects stat sheet ahead of Fever vs Storm matchup

Following Friday night’s Indiana Fever vs Washington Mystics thriller, I wrote an article telling the WNBA, “do the right thing here. Acknowledge and award Clark her well-earned assists.”

STATISTICIANS STRANGELY DON’T COUNT MULTIPLE CLEAR-CUT CAITLIN CLARK ASSISTS VS MYSTICS

Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever celebrating after scoring a basket at Gainbridge Fieldhouse

The WNBA seemed to have listened to me and many other voices calling for the league to award Caitlin Clark two clear-cut assists that were omitted from the stat sheet. One wrap-around pass on the baseline to Monique Billings for 3 in the corner, and a shovel pass to Kelsey Mitchell for another 3, which was crucial in the Fever’s ferocious comeback to force overtime.

The news was released by the Indiana Fever’s X account, highlighting that those two assists put Caitlin Clark into a league of her own with a historic accomplishment. “Caitlin Clark is officially the first player in WNBA history to record multiple games of 30+ points and 10+ assists,” the team stated in its posts acknowledging that the WNBA did indeed do the right thing and give Clark her assists.

Now that the stats have been corrected, Clark also set another WNBA record “for most career games (11) with 20+ points & 10+ assists,” the Fever posted on X prior to tonight’s game vs Seattle.

I mentioned Friday that this stat omission was not just robbing Clark of history, but also affected sports bettors. I have yet to see a sports book post anything publicly about affected betting slips since the stats were corrected, but here’s to hoping they do the right thing as well.

This was also not the first time the WNBA has been in a scandal miscounting Caitlin Clark assists. In 2024, the WNBA posted about Clark breaking the single-season assist record, but the the problem was, it was 16 assists shy of the actual number.

But if you thought this was bad, the WNBA posted a graphic promoting the Fever vs. Storm game who play Sunday night, which included a bench warmer, Raven Johnson to represent the team in the graphic. No face of the league Caitlin Clark. No Kelsey Mitchell, who is third in the league in scoring. No former No. 1 pick, Aliyah Boston. No Sophie Cunningham. They went with Raven Johnson, while promoting the Las Vegas Aces vs. Atlanta Dream game featuring A’ja Wilson and Angel Reese. Make it make sense.

Another poor marketing decision by the W. Or maybe they’re just trolling us and I’m falling for the bait. I’m betting on the former, though.

Finally, I hope the statistician is properly reprimanded, because these weren’t even remotely questionable assists. They were direct passes to intended targets that led to buckets, without any dribbles. There’s absolutely no justification for not counting those assists.

Caitlin Clark, who is fourth in the league in scoring and second in assists, will lead the Indiana Fever against the Seattle Storm Sunday night at 6 p.m. ET.

ISIS leader still at large as Africa becomes terror group’s epicenter, analyst says

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, ISIS’s shadow commander in West Africa, was killed May 16 using what an extremism analyst describes as one of the hardest forms of intelligence to detect, after decades being shielded by “deep local networks” across the region.

While the killing dealt one of the biggest blows to ISIS’s global network in years, disrupting operations in northeastern Nigeria, the terror group’s top leader, Abu Hafs al-Hashimi al-Qurashi, remains at large as Africa becomes the movement’s global epicenter.

“There is no single ISIS ‘headquarters’ in Nigeria; ISWAP (Islamic State West Africa Province) operates dozens of small, shifting camps scattered across the Lake Chad islands and the Borno bush,” Dr. Omar Mohammed, Senior Research Fellow at the GW Program on Extremism, told Fox News Digital.

“Al-Minuki would have had no smartphones, relying instead on courier-based communications and constant movement between these small camps,” he said.

President Donald Trump’s explicit reference to “sources who kept us informed” points directly to human intelligence, or HUMINT — the hardest form of intelligence for a target to detect or counter, Mohammed explained.

The precision strike successfully penetrated defenses that had been held for years.

“He would have utilized deep local networks the Nigerian military has struggled to penetrate for over a decade,” Mohammed added.

MS NOW GUEST SUGGESTS TRUMP STRIKE IN NIGERIA WAS RACIALLY MOTIVATED VIOLENCE

“His operational security would have been severe,” Mohammed said. “But two things eventually undo even careful targets: time generates patterns, and human sources are extremely difficult to defeat.”

“Despite severe operational security, al-Minuki was ultimately compromised through persistent human intelligence,” he noted. “Al-Minuki knew he was marked.”

ISIS FIGHTERS STILL AT LARGE AFTER SYRIAN PRISON BREAK, CONTRIBUTING TO VOLATILE SECURITY SITUATION

The Nigerian army described the strike as “a meticulously planned and highly complex precision air-land operation” carried out Saturday between midnight and 4 a.m. in Metele, located in Borno State in northeast Nigeria.

U.S. Africa Command, or AFRICOM, placed the strike in northeastern Nigeria, with Nigerian army communications pointing specifically to the Metele region.

Despite the tactical success, the current ISIS “caliph,” or overall leader, remains on the run, according to reports.

Al-Qurashi was “named following his predecessor’s death in Syria,” Mohammed claimed.

“He is deliberately faceless, with analysts describing this line of leaders as the ‘caliphs of the shadows,’” Mohammed said, noting al-Qurashi assumed leadership after Turkish authorities killed his predecessor in 2023.

While al-Qurashi’s exact location is unknown, reports indicate he traveled from Syria or Iraq through Yemen to Somalia’s semi-autonomous Puntland region.

“This is where the financial hub also sits, meaning the entire center of gravity of the organization — leadership, finance, operational direction — has been quietly relocating to Africa for years,” Mohammed said.

RUSSIAN MERCENARIES REPLACE WESTERN FORCES AS ISIS SURGES ACROSS AFRICA’S SAHEL REGION

US aircrafts launching from an aircraft carrier

“Africa has transitioned from a peripheral theater to the operational and financial center of global ISIS activity,” Dr. Omar Mohammed, Senior Research Fellow at the GW Program on Extremism, explained to Fox News Digital. (Jaron Willis/AFRICOM)

Data from the Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project confirms this regional shift, showing more than two-thirds of all Islamic State global activity now takes place in Africa.

“Africa has transitioned from a peripheral theater to the operational and financial center of global ISIS activity,” Mohammed explained. “Africa is no longer a peripheral theater. It is the main one. Funding is overwhelmingly local and extractive — taxation, ransom, smuggling — which is precisely why these networks are so resilient.”

“Al-Minuki, for example, rose through ISWAP and operated across the Lake Chad Basin and into the wider Sahel,” he noted.

“Still, staking out al-Minuki is the most significant blow to ISIS’ global leadership architecture since the al-Baghdadi raid in 2019, executed in the theater that has quietly become the group’s beating heart,” Mohammed said before adding the strike was “not a one-off kinetic moment.”

Angel Reese’s Atlanta Dream home debut was a disaster with 1 made shot, 8 turnovers and a lost shoe

Angel Reese started her career with the Chicago Sky, and in one of the more surprising trades of the offseason, was sent to the Atlanta Dream.

Through her first two games, her performances have been, well, a mixed bag. Her Dream debut against the Minnesota Lynx was a microcosm of her time in the WNBA. She had 11 points on 4-of-11 shooting, 14 rebounds, three blocks, but five turnovers and five personal fouls.

She improved a bit in game two, going 4-of-8 from the floor, and pulling down 16 rebounds in a 77-72 win over the Dallas Wings. But Sunday marked her home debut with Atlanta, with the Dream announcing a sellout at the State Farm Arena.

Hotly anticipated, Reese got a big welcome to her new city.

She played into it, showing up in a leather outfit that one media outlet described as channeling “Catwoman energy.” Then, when asked pregame about her matchup with A’ja Wilson, she said “She’s obviously a great player…but I know I’m a great player too.”

ANGEL REESE EMBRACES VILLAIN ROLE IN DALLAS, FLEXING AND TAUNTING FANS IN ATLANTA DREAM’S WIN OVER WINGS

And that was pretty much the entire highlight of the game for the 24-year-old. Reese hit one of eight field-goal attempts a missed her lone three-point shot. She had as many turnovers as she did rebounds, with eight apiece. One shot made from the field, eight turnovers.

In fact, in one of her several trademark missed layups, she lost a shoe.

Six missed layups on the day, eight turnovers…hard to have a worse day than that.

No wonder, then, that her +/- rating on the day was -13, meaning the Las Vegas Aces outscored the Dream by 13 points with Reese on the court. This season, Reese’s new team has been outscored by 15 points when she’s on the court.

And incredibly, she was such a liability that Atlanta head coach Karl Smesko effectively benched her with the Dream down by double digits. They immediately staged a comeback that came up just short in an 85-84 loss to the Aces.

All told in her first three games with Atlanta, Reese is 9-27 shooting, 0-2 from three, has committed 16 turnovers and 11 fouls. To go along with that -15 +/- rating. Though she has pulled in 38 rebounds, five blocks, and has been relatively efficient from the free throw line at 14-18.
