Supporters of a Boston police officer charged in the fatal shooting of a carjacking suspect have donated more than $400,000 to an online fundraiser created to help him and his family.

The crowdfunding page for Nicholas O’Malley has raised $414,000 as of Monday afternoon.

O’Malley of Randolph, Massachusetts, is charged with voluntary manslaughter for allegedly firing at 39-year-old Stephenson King and causing his death without acting in proper self-defense or defense of another.

He has pleaded not guilty to the March 11 shooting. The fundraiser was apparently launched by a fellow police officer.

“The O’Malley family is facing an incredibly difficult time due to unforeseen circumstances, and they need our support now more than ever,” the GoFundMe description reads. “With two young children depending on them, the financial road ahead is uncertain.”

A woman told police she had been sitting in the passenger seat of her running vehicle when a man later identified as King allegedly assaulted her, dragged her out and drove off in the car, according to investigators.

Upon responding to the stolen vehicle, O’Malley, 33, and another officer approached the vehicle and ordered King to show his hands and shut off the car. King, who had a long criminal history, raised his hands and partially opened his window but did not fully comply, authorities said.

“Bro, I’m gonna f***ing shoot you,” O’Malley warned before King reversed into a cruiser in an apparent attempt to flee the scene.

As the vehicle moved forward again, O’Malley drew his firearm and fired three shots through the driver’s side window, fatally striking King.

Several Boston city councilors have warned against rushing to judgment.

“When one officer makes a split second, decisive action during an intense encounter with a known violent criminal who had just committed a heinous and violent crime, and that officer reacts in a manner he thought was best to protect the public and his partner, we cannot jump to any conclusion that this was done maliciously or without necessary action,” Councilor John FitzGerald wrote in a statement.

Councilor Erin Murphy noted King’s criminal history and called for the release of police bodycam footage from the shooting.

“None of us were there in that moment, and none of us had to make the kind of split-second decisions that come with a dangerous, fast-moving situation like this,” she said.

OpenAI rolls out ChatGPT Library to store your personal files

ChatGPT

OpenAI is rolling out a new feature called ‘Library’ for ChatGPT, which allows you to store your personal files or images on OpenAI’s cloud storage.

OpenAI says ChatGPT Library requires Plus, Pro, and Business. It’s rolling out to customers across the world except the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.

I refreshed the ChatGPT web, and the Library automatically showed up on the sidebar.

GPT
ChatGPT Library

To my surprise, it’s actually not empty, as ChatGPT has already saved some of the files I uploaded in the last two weeks.

Turns out it’s an expected behaviour. By default, GPT will save your uploaded files in a dedicated, secure location, and they can be used for reference in a future chat.

“ChatGPT automatically saves uploaded and created files, including files uploaded in chats (for example: documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and images) in a dedicated, secure location so they can be easily accessed later,” OpenAI noted in a document.

On the other hand, if you use ChatGPT to generate AI images, they will continue to appear in the Images tab.

The Library section only has files you uploaded, and you can upload files by following these steps:

  • Open the composer menu (the attachment/add button).
  • Select Add from library.
  • Choose the file you want to use.

OpenAI says ChatGPT automatically saves uploaded and created files, including files uploaded in chats, in a dedicated, secure location so they can be easily accessed later.

This means files are saved to your account until you delete them manually, but deleting a chat containing a file does not delete those files saved to Library.

To delete a file:

  • Select the file in the “Library” tab
  • Click Delete, or click the trash icon next to the file.

OpenAI will remove files from its servers within 30 days of deletion.

It’s unclear why it takes nearly a month to purge files, but it is likely due to legal reasons.

Macaulay Culkin, Brenda Song blast Alaska Airlines for separating them from kids

Macaulay Culkin’s fiancée Brenda Song called out Alaska Airlines following a bad travel experience with their family.

The 37-year-old actress, who shares sons Dakota, 4, and Carson, 3, with the 45-year-old “Home Alone” star took to social media on Saturday to blast the airline, which she claimed gave away their pre-booked first-class seats unexpectedly on the day of their flight. Song said that due to the seat change, she and Culkin were separated from their two young children during the trip.

“I didn’t know when you book your first class tickets 6 months in advance for your family … @alaskaair can just give away your seats the morning of with no warning splitting up you and your 3 and 4 year old kids,” Song wrote in a post shared on her Instagram Story.

Culkin expressed his support for his fiancée’s frustration, reposting her message on his Instagram Story and jokingly writing, “Hell hath no fury like a Brenda scorned…”

Fox News Digital has reached out to representatives for Song and Culkin for comment.

In a statement to Fox News Digital, a representative for Alaska Airlines said, “The experience these guests had today was unacceptable and not reflective of the care we strive to deliver. We have reached out to the family to make it right.”

“Traveling can be stressful, especially with young children, and we pride ourselves on being a top airline for families,” the spokesperson continued. “We are deeply sorry for adding friction to the experience. We appreciate that guests have a choice in the airline they select and we take our responsibility seriously to deliver a safe, reliable, and caring experience every single time.”

Song’s post sparked a divided reaction online, with many fans supporting the actress’s frustration while others dismissed the situation as overblown.

“Brenda has a reason to be upset, these are the tickets she paid for and most of all she didn’t want to be apart from her kids,” one social media user wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

“If you’ve paid for them, how can they give them away? I’d be angry too,” another added.

“Every parent felt that Instagram Story,” one fan wrote. “Booking 6 months in advance for your kid’s birthday just to be split up is a nightmare. Brenda’s right to call it out, and Mac’s ‘Brenda scorned’ joke was the perfect touch of humor to a stressful situation.”

“Apologies after the fact from Alaska Air means c–p,” another chimed in. “What they did was cruel and unusual punishment to those people. Seriously? They purchased them six months in advance and then just ripped away?”

“Boo f—ing hoo seriously get over yourself and this #nothingburger,” another commented.

UN expert says world has given Israel ‘licence to torture Palestinians’ | Israel-Palestine conflict News

UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese says torture ‘has effectively become state policy’ in Israel.

A United Nations expert says the world has given Israel a licence to torture Palestinians, with life in the occupied Palestinian territory “a continuum of physical and mental suffering”.

Francesca Albanese, the UN’s special rapporteur on the rights situation in Palestinian territory occupied since 1967, said on Monday that “torture has effectively become state policy” in Israel.

“Israel has effectively been given a licence to torture Palestinians, because most of your governments, your ministers, have allowed it,” she said, as she presented her latest report to the UN Human Rights Council.

“What once operated in the shadows is now practiced openly: a regime of organised humiliation, pain and degradation, sanctioned at the highest political levels,” Albanese said in the report, titled “Torture and genocide”.

“Torture is not confined to cells and interrogation rooms,” the report outlined.

“Through the cumulative impact of mass displacement, siege, denial of aid and food, unrestrained military and settler violence, and pervasive surveillance and terror, the occupied Palestinian territory has become a space of collective punishment, where the destruction of the conditions of life turns genocidal violence into a tool of collective torture with long-term mental and physical consequences for the occupied population,” it added.

Albanese, an outspoken critic of Israeli action in the occupied West Bank and its genocidal war on Gaza, has faced backlash from Israel and the United States, with mounting calls for her removal from the position of special rapporteur.

Since October 7, 2023, Israeli attacks on Gaza have killed at least 72,263 people and injured 171,944 others, according to Gaza’s Ministry of Health.

In the occupied West Bank, since October 2023, Israeli authorities arrested more than 18,500 Palestinians, including at least 1,500 children as of February, the report found.

Israel’s mission to the UN slammed Albanese’s report and called her an “agent of chaos”.

“Albanese abuses her UN platform to engage in virulent antisemitism, including peddling narratives that constitute Holocaust distortion and trivialisation. She routinely makes statements supporting terrorist organisations and advocates dangerous extremist narratives to undermine the very existence of the State of Israel,” the mission said in a statement.

Albanese called on UN member states to “prevent and punish” acts of torture and genocide, and uphold international law.

“Its increasing use as part of Israel’s genocide against the Palestinian people makes this violation all the more grave and indefensible,” she said, according to a UN press release.

“If the international community continues to tolerate such acts when inflicted on Palestinians, then the law itself will be stripped of meaning.”

Congress weighs $200B Iran war spending request amid hurdles

0

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

A phalanx of reporters and photographers trailed House Budget Committee Chairman Jodey Arrington, R-Texas, out of the Capitol and across the Capitol grounds last Thursday morning.

The Trump administration planned to ask Congress for an additional $200 billion to cover the cost of the war in Iran. Passing such a plan might be dicey. Especially vaulting the 60 vote barricade in the Senate. But House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., and Arrington were already touting a “reconciliation” bill for this year to approve some of the GOP’s domestic policy priorities ahead of the midterms. Reconciliation is inoculated from a Senate filibuster. And other Republicans may be on board with the extra $200 billion if it’s tucked into a reconciliation package which tackles other subjects.

“I think reconciliation is probably going to be the only vehicle that we put anything in because the Democrats aren’t going to support it,” said Arrington, briskly traversing a set of congressional steps near the plaza, bound for Independence Avenue. “I don’t think they’ll support the supplemental for the operating needs for our military while they’re in conflict.”

“The Senate seems kind of suspect of trying to do this,” yours truly followed up as the gaggle of reporters and photographers trekked the Capitol grounds toward the street.

PENTAGON SEEKS AT LEAST $200B FROM CONGRESS FOR IRAN WAR

“The Senate is going to be suspect and slow to be motivated. Which is why the House is the little engine that can. And when the little engine that can, does, then the Senate and other people follow. The House has to lead,” replied Arrington. “We led in the first reconciliation bill. It wouldn’t have been as big or beautiful if we didn’t do our job on the tax cuts. On the spending cuts. On the energy reforms. On the generational welfare reforms.”

The scrum edged closer to Independence Avenue in the shadow of the Longworth House Office Building.

“I’ve got to walk across here. I’m late for a meeting. Y’all can follow me,” instructed Arrington, to the press, pivoting into the crosswalk just as the traffic light changed to green.

THE HITCHHIKER’S GUIDE TO CONGRESS’ OPTIONS ON HAMSTRINGING TRUMP’S WAR POWERS IN IRAN

Three journalists followed the Texas Republican into the street. However, your trusty journalist (and Wayne Elementary School Safety Town participant) remained on the corner.

Two cars and a bus accelerated.

“Wait! Careful! Careful! Careful! Careful! Careful! Careful!” I hollered.

Arrington and the others scurried back to the curb.

“See, you lead. They follow. But they may die,” observed Arrington.

“Are you going to lead the Senate right into a crosswalk with traffic?” I inquired.

Arrington pivoted – both back to the curb and to policy – as cars and scooters whizzed by.

Jodey Arrington

“I think my counterpart, (Senate Budget Committee Chairman) Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., understands that the only train leaving the station for the bigger vision for our military will be a reconciliation bill,” said Arrington.

It’s unclear whether Arrington switching to railroads and locomotives was the best rhetorical shift considering the close call on the street. But Arrington may be right. It will be challenging to pass anything substantial for the rest of this Congress. And perhaps zippering the $200 billion for the war into a reconciliation measure with other policy sweeteners could be the most palatable option to Republicans.

“We have to continue to look at offsetting,” said Rep. Tony Wied, R-Wis.

“I think it should be offset,” said Rep. Tim Burchett, R-Tenn.

“It is expensive,” conceded House Veterans’ Affairs Committee Chairman Mike Bost, R-Ill., about the spending request.

REPORTER’S NOTEBOOK: GOP PUSHES ELECTION SECURITY BILL DESPITE SLIM ODDS, AS TRUMP PRESSURE LOOMS

But offsets come from cuts. And lawmakers don’t like to slash programs important to their jurisdiction, state or district.

“A lot of the VA stuff, that’s like the third rail in politics. You don’t cut that,” said Bost.

What could contribute to an offset? Arrington suggested Republicans should turn to the time-tested Washington law firm of “Waste, Fraud and Abuse” to mitigate the cost of the war.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., replied “no” when asked about the supplemental spending request.

“It is skyrocketing prices of everything across the board, and Congress didn’t even approve. And so to have the audacity to come to Congress to fund a war that we have not even voted for it – not only is it illegal, it is insulting,” said Ocasio-Cortez.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

I asked about whether it was dangerous for lawmakers to leave American troops in the lurch when they’re exposed to hostilities abroad.

“They should have thought about that before they entered a conflict without Congress,” said Ocasio-Cortez. “They told everybody that it was just a quick in and out strike and now they have found themselves in a disaster. And we cannot enable this kind of reckless and illegal behavior.”

Ocasio-Cortez is hinting at the ultimate Congressional authority: power of the purse. Lawmakers are charged with approving 12 spending bills to run the government each year. A supplemental spending package – say for war, terrorism, recovery from natural disasters or economic stimulus – is a “13th” spending bill. It’s plopped on top of the customary 12. Lawmakers could really hamstring the war in Iran if they decide to pull the funding.

The White House scored about $1 trillion from Congress in Fiscal Year 2026 for the military. President Trump’s request for the Pentagon for Fiscal Year 2027 – still unapproved – is $1.5 trillion. That’s a 50 percent increase. That particular ask of Congress came before the $200 billion ask for the war in Iran.

DEMS’ POTENTIAL 2028 HOPEFULS COME OUT AGAINST US STRIKES ON IRAN

The president has sent mixed signals as to whether the war is “ending.” A reporter asked President Trump if he still needed the $200 billion.

“It’s always nice to have. It’s a very inflamed world. And the Democrats inflame it,” replied the president.

But it’s generally believed that the Pentagon needs the money because it’s burned through so many munitions in Iran.

So this supplemental spending request must navigate the Congressional traffic.

Regular traffic and pedestrian signals switch on a regular basis. But not necessarily political signals. There’s no way right now for lawmakers to greenlight an extra $200 billion for the war. That’s because the “don’t walk” light is flashing.

The question now is how long it takes for the light to change. Or, if it will ever cycle through. Otherwise, Congressional leaders could put the bill on the floor – and get mowed down by a political bus.
