Local authorities announced last Tuesday that a Colorado school staffer is accused of carrying out months of alleged sexual abuse involving a 13-year-old student.

The staffer was identified as 34-year-old Brenda Meza at Greeley-Evans School District 6, located about an hour north of Denver, police said. She is reportedly on the run and is currently wanted on several felony charges.

Meza, a secretary who also coached the cross-country team and advised the games club at Franklin Middle School, is accused of grooming an eighth grader by supplying alcohol and drugs, engaging in lewd text exchanges, and arranging multiple meetings at locations including a park and a Walmart parking lot, the New York Post reported, citing the arrest affidavit and local police. 

“During the investigation, it was determined Meza engaged in continuous sexual abuse of the minor for several months,” the Greeley Police Department said. “As a result of the investigation, Brenda Meza is currently wanted on several Felony charges.”

Authorities said she allegedly became jealous when the boy interacted with female classmates, the Post reported.

In November, the two reportedly began exchanging a series of sexual text messages, which included at least four explicit photos sent by the boy.

The relationship allegedly escalated in January, when Meza and the 13-year-old are accused of engaging in sexual intercourse for the first time in the back seat of her car in a Walmart parking lot, according to the Post. She also allegedly bought marijuana edibles and alcohol for them to consume during the encounter.

Over the following weeks, the pair allegedly repeated similar encounters at least two more times at a local park. She would also allegedly drop the boy home around 9 p.m., the Post reported.

The investigation further revealed that Meza had taken numerous photos of the pair appearing to drink, holding marijuana blunts, and spending time together during after-school activities, the outlet said. 

Police reportedly launched an investigation on Feb. 12 after receiving an anonymous tip alleging Meza’s abuse of the teen.

After school officials confronted her, Meza admitted to her husband that she “got high” and had inappropriate interactions with the teen, the affidavit reportedly stated.

The secretary, who began working at the middle school in 2020, was placed on administrative leave and later terminated by Feb. 25, according to a school memo sent by principal Suzette Luster, the Post said.  

The district added that it is assisting police in the investigation and stressed that “student safety and security is always our first priority.”

The police department is reportedly seeking to charge her with 12 felony counts — including sexual assault of a child, online enticement of a minor, and tampering with evidence — along with one charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Police are still trying to locate Meza, who authorities say left the area during the investigation and remains at large.

The U.S. State Department on Wednesday expanded its list of countries whose citizens will be required to post bonds of up to $15,000 to apply for U.S. business or tourist visas.

The department added 12 nations to the growing list — Cambodia, Ethiopia, Georgia, Grenada, Lesotho, Mauritius, Mongolia, Mozambique, Nicaragua, Papua New Guinea, Seychelles and Tunisia.

Starting April 2, passport holders from these countries must pay a bond of $5,000, $10,000 or $15,000, which is refunded if the visa application is denied or, if granted, the traveler complies with the terms of the B1 or B2 visa.

The cost of the bond depends on the applicant’s circumstances and is determined at the discretion of a consular officer during the visa interview.

The requirement was first rolled out by the Trump administration last year, as part of an effort to crack down on visa overstays and illegal immigration, according to officials.

With the latest additions, citizens from 50 countries will be subject to the bond requirement beginning April 2, although the policy has already been in effect for most of them.

The majority of the countries are in Africa, which officials say have higher visa overstay rates, though the list also includes nations in Asia, Latin America and elsewhere.

“The visa bond program has already proven effective at drastically reducing the number of visa recipients who overstay their visas and illegally remain in the United States,” the department said in a statement.

Nearly 97% of the roughly 1,000 individuals who posted bonds complied with visa terms and did not overstay, according to the department.

Vijay Kumar Sinha clearly said that strict action will be taken against those creating obstruction in government work, indiscipline and making misleading statements. The suspended officers include Araria’s Additional District Land Acquisition Officer Jitendra Pandey, Patna Sadar Circle Officer Rajnikant and East Champaran’s Ghorasahan Circle Officer Anand Kumar.

During this period, the headquarters of all has been fixed as Commissioner’s Office, Purnia. This action has been taken under Rules 8, 9 and 10 of Bihar Government Service Conduct Rules 1978. He said that this is a necessary step towards maintaining discipline in the department.

50 percent employees are working

Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sinha said that the employees of zonal offices across Bihar are not on strike. According to the report sent by the District Magistrates of all the districts, at present about 50 percent of the revenue officers are working. He said that work performance is extremely important in view of the closing of the financial year. Presently the census work is also being monitored by this department. Self counting work is to start from 17th April. Preparations for this are going on. Many campaigns are being run by the department. In such a situation, no action will be taken against the officers who return to their work immediately. But, those who disobey the orders of the government and create obstacles in its work will not be spared at any cost.

Warning to those making misleading statements

He warned that strict action will be taken against those spreading misleading propaganda in the media. Any kind of anarchy will not be accepted. Those making misleading statements will be suspended. The same was the case with the three officers who have been suspended.
