Sharon Osbourne says artists should skip political speeches at award shows

Sharon Osbourne is sharing how she feels about artists who choose to give politically motivated speeches at award shows.

During a conversation with her son, Jack Osbourne, on a recent episode of “The Osbournes Podcast,” Sharon said that while she “understand[s] [that] everybody needs their platform,” she also understands that “everybody needs relief from what’s going on in the world.”

“Everybody needs that escape,” she said. “And the thing is, it’s like I understand that people get really emotional about things politically, so when they are on TV knowing that there’s 15 [to] 16 million people in this country alone watching, they want to use that platform to show everybody how emotional they personally are about a situation. And I get it, but they’ve also got to get that Joe public needs a f—ing break.”

She said that while they may have that “huge platform” when accepting whatever award they have just won, they need to understand, “it’s not always about you” and that those watching at home are already living in “fear.”

The former “X Factor UK” judge went on to say those artists should “save it for your own little platform.”

Sharon’s daughter, Kelly Osbourne, recently sparked concern over her weight after attending the Brit Awards in February. Kelly took to Instagram earlier this month to call out the body shamers.

“There is a special kind of cruelty in harming someone who is clearly going through something,” she wrote on her Instagram story. “Kicking me while I’m down, doubting my pain, spreading my struggles as gossip, and turning your back when I need support and love most.”

This isn’t the first time she had to defend herself against people making comments about her weight. She previously shared she can’t “believe how disgusting some human beings truly are” after someone left a comment saying she “looks like a dead body” and that they think “she’s going to see her dad soon.”

Her dad, legendary rock musician and Black Sabbath lead singer, Ozzy Osbourne, died in July 2025, just weeks after performing his final concert with the band in Birmingham, England.

Kelly previously spoke about what it was like for her to grow up in the spotlight, telling the crowd at the Inaugural Beacher Vitality Happy & Healthy Summit in May 2025, “we live in a fat-phobic world,” per People magazine.

Son of jailed British couple appeals to Trump over parents’ Iran detention amid war

The son of a British couple who have remained jailed in Iran for more than a year is appealing to President Donald Trump as the war in Iran complicates the situation.

“Conditions have intensified over the last couple of weeks, to say the least, as you might imagine with the complexity of war,” Joe Bennett told Fox News on Saturday.

He said the notorious Evin prison where his parents are being held in Tehran was already at capacity and a recent surge of protesters has created severely crowded conditions.

“Food is scarce,” he added. “We’re worried about the replenishment of their stocks of food. I mean, it’s unsanitary conditions. It has been described as ‘hell on Earth’ by them.”

He added, “With the bombs that are dropping and the activity that’s happening there at the moment, the anxiety is heightened for us and for them as well.”

Craig and Lindsay Foreman were arrested in January 2025 by Iranian authorities in January 2025, while on a global motorcycling trip, and were later sentenced to 10 years in prison on suspicion of spying.

Bennett spoke in Washington, D.C., Thursday at the McCain Institute’s US-UK Transatlantic Conference on Hostage-Taking and Arbitrary Detention, criticizing British leaders’ — namely Prime Minister Keir Starmer — “non-existent” advocacy for his parents, BBC News reported.

“The clear message to the U.K. government and Starmer is to stop hiding behind this as a consular case,” Bennett told Fox News. “I think that was put out the window when they were sentenced to 10 years for espionage, accused of being spies for the Israeli Mossad and the U.K. government.”

Bennett continued, “What we haven’t seen is leadership qualities from Keir Starmer. We haven’t seen him advocate since their sentencing to, as you say, condemn this sham process and the treatment of U.K. nationals.”

Starmer’s silence has left Bennett’s family feeling “let down,” he said. “We feel there’s an opportunity to do so and there still is.”

“It affects not just the U.K., the U.S. as well, and Western civilization,” Bennett added. “Innocent people are being targeted for leverage as political pawns.”

He also urged Trump to be “concise” with Iranian strikes and not to forget that Brits and Americans are in that prison.

“Two things I’d like to say to Mr. Trump is, firstly, that safety is important,” Bennett told Fox News. “Missiles have hit Evin in June of last year but also were very close, so I think the target — I just want him to be concise that, you know, so that Evin isn’t a part of that, and, secondly, is to not forget that they are there.”

He noted that, along with his parents, U.S. nationals are also imprisoned at Evin.

“And as a humanitarian plea, from a son for his mother’s release is what I’m asking for,” he said.

Man City held at West Ham to lose ground on Premier League leaders Arsenal | Football News

Manchester City draw 1-1 with relegation-threatened West Ham to fall nine points behind Arsenal in the Premier League race.

Manchester ‌City lost further ground on Premier League leaders Arsenal on Saturday as they were held to a 1-1 draw at West Ham United, which left them nine points behind the leaders with a game in hand.

After Arsenal left it late to beat Everton 2-0, Bernardo Silva put City ahead in the 31st minute with a fortunate chip over goalkeeper Mads Hermansen, before Konstantinos Mavropanos headed home Jarrod Bowen’s corner four minutes later.

City manager Pep Guardiola had claimed the title race could be over if his side dropped points again, and City poured forward with increasing desperation in search of a winner after the break.

Erling Haaland, on a run of four goals in his previous 17 games, drew a fingertip save from Hermansen before he scuffed a shot wide from Antoine Semenyo’s ‌cutback.

Marc Guehi then sliced horribly wide in the fifth minute of added time, as West Ham deservedly clung onto a precious point in their relegation battle.

Manchester City remained second, with 61 points from 30 games, having suffered another blow to their title hopes after a sobering first-leg 3-0 defeat at Real Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday. West Ham moved out of the relegation zone for the first time since December and up to 17th with 29 points, one ahead of Nottingham Forest, who have a game in hand.

Man City dominated possession in the opening stages but without coming close to creating a chance, a theme throughout the contest.

Haaland spurned the first real opportunity when he completely misjudged a header from Rayan Ait-Nouri’s cross, but Silva opened the scoring minutes later.

The City captain seemed to be aiming a cross for Haaland, which instead floated over Hermansen and into the side netting.

The hosts equalised shortly afterwards through Mavropanos, who met Bowen’s corner with a towering header after Gianluigi Donnarumma missed his punch, leaving Guardiola – serving a touchline suspension in the stands – with his head in his hands.

Semenyo nearly restored City’s lead on the stroke of half-time, but placed his shot ‌narrowly past the post, with Hermansen beaten.

The visitors made a double change on the hour mark, introducing Rayan Cherki and Jeremy Doku, and it almost paid off immediately, with Cherki playing Haaland in, who ‌was ‌denied by Hermansen.

Tijjani Reijnders’s late free kick bounced off the crossbar, as City huffed and puffed, but when the final chance fell to Guehi, he could not find the target.

Caitlin Clark ignores Angel Reese high-five during Team USA game

The rivalry between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese got some new fuels Friday.

A clip is making the rounds of Clark ignoring Reese’s gesture for a high-five during a game for the FIBA World Cup qualifiers. As Reese held her hand out for her Team USA teammate, Clark walked in the other direction.

The U.S. won the game 91-48 over Puerto Rico.

There has been suspected tension between Clark and Reese dating back to their meeting in the 2023 NCAA women’s basketball championship game

Reese taunted Clark by pointing to her ring finger during the game, prompting outrage and sparking an ongoing feud between fans.

Clark’s Iowa Hawkeyes got revenge on Reese’s LSU Tigers a year later in the Elite Eight, but the tension hit a whole new level when the players reached the pros for their rookie WNBA seasons.

In their first WNBA season in 2024, Clark took a series of questionable fouls from Reese’s Sky throughout the 2024 season, including one from Reese June 16.

In 2025, the two had a heated exchange after Reese pushed Fever forward Natasha Howard in the back as she grabbed an offensive rebound off a miss by teammate Rebecca Allen. Reese brought the ball low, and Clark fouled her before she went up for a shot. Reese fell to the ground.

Reese got up from the floor and got into the face of Clark.

Referees reviewed the play and determined Clark used her left hand to shove Reese to the floor. They upgraded the personal foul on Clark to a flagrant foul. And Reese and Aliyah Boston of the Fever were issued technical fouls.

“Nothing malicious about it, just a good take foul,” Clark told ESPN’s Holly Rowe.

Now, the two stars are teammates for the U.S. as they try to make the FIBA World Cup, but fans can probably still sense an awkward dynamic between them.

Real Madrid beat Elche to pressure Barcelona for La Liga title | Football News

Federico Valverde scores his fifth goal in three games as Real Madrid beat Elche to move one point behind Barcelona.

Federico Valverde hit the back of the net, and the headlines, once again for Real Madrid as they beat Elche 4-1 in La Liga, but it was Arda Guler’s last-gasp strike from inside his own half that captured imaginations.

Midfielder Valvrder netted his fifth goal in three games for Los Blancos, having scored a hat-trick in midweek against Manchester City, with a curling effort from the edge of the box just before half-time on Saturday.

Recommended Stories

list of 4 itemsend of list

It doubled his side’s lead after Antonio Rudiger volleyed home the opener in the 39th minute, following a scramble in the box from a Real corner.

Dean Huijsen was the unlikely player furthest forward to head home Real’s third in the 66th minute, but the defender was left unmarked in the box, where he remained after another corner that Elche had effectively failed to clear.

Even a late own goal by Manuel Angel could not dampen Los Blancos’ spirits, especially when Arda Guler went on to net what will surely be the goal of the season from inside his own half.

The 21-year-old Turkey midfielder spotted Elche goalkeeper Matías Dituro off his line and didn’t hesitate to launch a long lob with his left foot that sailed over the hapless ’keeper and bounced once before settling into the net.

The Santiago Bernabeu stadium erupted in applause for the memorable goal that came with the victory beyond doubt in the 89th minute.

Güler joined Madrid from Fenerbache in 2023. He has scored four goals this season, when he has gained more playing time after the exit of veteran Luka Modric.

The win moves Real to within a point of leaders Barcelona, who can restore their four-point advantage when they play Sevilla on Sunday.

The game had been a nervy affair at Bernabeu Stadium until Rudiger’s opener settled the Madrid crowd.

The victory marks a third straight win for Real, who had lost two on the bounce in the league prior to the current run, and parted company with their coach Xabi Alonso in January.

Interim coach Alvaro Arbeloa, also a former Real player, could not have asked for a better week, with one of the best performances of the season produced in Wednesday’s win against City in the UEFA Champions League.

Arbeloa’s side take a 3-0 advantage to Manchester for the return leg on Tuesday, and with the La Liga race tightening, what was looking like a nightmare season could still end with the two most coveted titles for Madrid.

Elche, who were promoted to La Liga last season, remain mired in a relegation scrap, just a point above third-bottom Mallorca, who entertain Espanyol on Sunday.

Trinidad and Tobago extends state of emergency for another three months | Crime News

0

The Caribbean nation has spent 10 of the last 14 months under an emergency status that curtails key civil liberties.

As part of a campaign to crack down on crime, the Caribbean nation of Trinidad and Tobago has moved to extend its state of emergency, which grants security forces expansive powers and restricts key civil liberties.

The country’s House of Representatives voted on Saturday to extend the emergency measures for another three months.

Recommended Stories

list of 3 itemsend of list

The three-month extension passed by a margin of 26-12. The state of emergency was initially enacted for a period of 15 days, but the government can stretch it further if it so chooses.

Members of the opposition say that, despite the emergency state, the government has failed to bring violent crime under control.

Trinidad and Tobago has now been under a state of emergency for about 10 of the last 14 months.

A state of emergency was first declared in December 2024, following an outburst of gang violence.

It allowed the government to arrest people on “suspicion of criminal activities” and suspended protections against government searches of public and private premises.

The country has recorded more than 60 killings this year. Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar recently told the legislature that 373 people have been detained under the state of emergency.

The vote extends a trend of governments across Latin America relying on emergency orders to address crime in their countries.

Countries including El Salvador and Honduras have issued such emergency declarations to pause civil liberties and empower security forces to combat crime, despite a record of mixed success.

Both El Salvador and Honduras have also prolonged their states of emergency, even though such measures are designed to be temporary.

Last year, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights called on the Honduran government to end its state of emergency, noting that it had been extended approximately 17 times.

Activists and human rights experts have also indicated that emergency declarations can sometimes pave the way for severe rights abuses.

During an event this week on the sidelines of the UN Human Rights Council, a group of international jurists presented findings that the government of Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele likely committed crimes against humanity during the government’s state of exception.

Activist groups have said the government in El Salvador is using extensive powers to threaten and jail dissidents and rights activists. The country is slated to mark the fourth anniversary of its 2022 state of emergency on March 27.
