Benedict Cumberbatch got into a heated exchange with a fellow cyclist in London.

The “Doctor Strange” star was caught on video getting off of his bike and confronting an unknown man who accused him of running a red light.

“You’re deluded, you’re lying. I was behind you the entire time,” the unknown cyclist said in the video.

The eyewitness said that Cumberbatch and the other cyclist “blocked the lane so no one else could get through.” The man who saw the incident said that the unknown biker followed Cumberbatch until he would pull his bike over.

“The masked guy was obviously some kind of vigilante — he was really taken aback when he saw it was Benedict Cumberbatch, but he doubled down on his rage,” the witness said.

The man added, “I don’t condone dangerous driving, but for this guy to follow him and cause an incident like this was worse than Benedict slowly cutting that light.”

Mahmoud Khalil’s lawyer calls immigration case a ‘sham’ after revelation it was fast-tracked by DoJ | Mahmoud Khalil

0

A lawyer for Mahmoud Khalil, the first noncitizen activist arrested in the Trump administration crackdown on pro-Palestinian speech, called his client’s immigration proceedings “preordained and a complete sham” after it was revealed that the case was prioritized to be fast-tracked.

“These revelations make clear that this case has been controlled from day one by higher-ups in the administration,” said Marc Van Der Hout, an attorney on Khalil’s legal team, in a statement. “The immigration judge was hand-picked and the Board of Immigration Appeals decision was predetermined. We will continue to fight for Mahmoud in every court we can.”

In April, the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA) issued a “final” administrative removal order for Khalil in an abnormally quick decision after multiple judges reportedly recused themselves from the case. The BIA is a part of the US justice department but is required by law to consider cases independently. However, internal board documents obtained by The New York Times indicated that the case had been flagged as a high priority and expedited – leading to accusations from Khalil’s team that the Trump administration put its thumb on the scale to make an example of him.

Khalil’s removal order came within nine days of final briefing; such appeals decisions typically take years.

“This story proves that the Trump administration’s treatment of my case has always been corrupt and retaliatory,” Khalil said on X after the New York Times report. “They put me through a sham immigration process while guaranteeing the outcome in advance.”

On a separate legal track, in January, a split panel of the third circuit court of appeals overturned the district court ruling that freed Khalil from detention last year. That lower court decision found that Khalil’s detention and attempts to deport him, on grounds that his activism while a student at Columbia University posed a threat to US foreign policy interests, were likely unconstitutional.

The appeals court ruling did not weigh in on constitutional issues, but held that the district court did not have jurisdiction over the case. Khali’s attorneys asked the full appeals court to reconsider the decision, and are awaiting a ruling.

Depending on the outcome of the third circuit case, Khalil could be expelled from the US, even if his attorneys ask the supreme court to weigh in.

Khalil, who was raised in a Palestinian refugee camp in Syria, is a legal US permanent resident married to a US citizen. He was arrested in New York in March 2025 for his advocacy at Columbia for Palestinian rights and swiftly sent to an Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention center in Louisiana, where he was held for 104 days. During that time, his wife gave birth to their first child – who is now one year old.

He was released in June last year, after a federal judge ruled his detention unconstitutional, finding that Khalil was neither a flight risk nor a community threat. Donald Trump called Khalil a “Radical Foreign Pro-Hamas Student” and a “terrorist sympathizer” and Marco Rubio, the secretary of state, said that Khalil’s presence in the US would have “adverse foreign policy consequences”. After his detention and amid public outcry, the Trump administration also claimed that his green card application contained ommisions. Earlier this year, the administration claimed he would be deported to Algeria.

In another lawsuit that scrutinized the administration’s policy to deport pro-Palestinian scholars for their views, a federal judge last year accused the government of “an unconstitutional conspiracy to pick off certain people” that violated the first amendment to the US constitution.

China sentences 2 ex-defense ministers to suspended death for corruption

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Two former Chinese defense ministers have been sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve for corruption, in one of the most severe punishments handed down to senior military officials in recent years.

Reuters reported that Wei Fenghe and Li Shangfu received the suspended death sentences on May 7 following graft convictions by China’s military court, according to state media.

The ruling underscores the depth of President Xi Jinping’s long-running anti-corruption campaign within the armed forces, the outlet said.

According to the official Xinhua News Agency, Wei was convicted of accepting bribes, while Li was found guilty of both accepting and offering bribes, based on court documents.

Both men were also stripped of their political rights for life and ordered to forfeit all personal property.

Under Chinese law, a death sentence with a two-year reprieve is typically commuted to life imprisonment if the individual does not commit further crimes during the suspension period.

In this case, the penalties will be reduced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole or further commutation after the reprieve period ends.

Wei Fenghe, 72, served as China’s defense minister from 2018 to 2023, while Li Shangfu, 68, held the post for only a few months as his successor.

Both men were former state councillors and members of the powerful Central Military Commission (CMC), the top military leadership body chaired by Xi.

They also previously led the People’s Liberation Army’s Rocket Force, a key branch established in 2015 as part of Xi’s sweeping military reforms.

The Rocket Force oversees China’s nuclear arsenal as well as its conventional missile systems, making it one of the most strategically significant arms of the military.

The sentences signal an escalation in Xi’s campaign to root out corruption in the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), a drive that has targeted senior officials since he took power in 2012.

The crackdown intensified in 2023, when investigations reached the Rocket Force and other elite units.

Both Wei and Li were expelled from the ruling Communist Party in June 2024.

Singapore-based security scholar James Char told Reuters the sentences were the harshest imposed on members of the Central Military Commission in recent history.

“That Wei and Li have been commuted to life imprisonment without parole or commutation underlines the severity of their offences,” he said.

The International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), a London-based think tank, had previously warned that the ongoing purges could be weakening China’s military command structure.

The organization said the campaign may have created disruptions that could affect the readiness of the country’s rapidly modernizing armed forces.

Trump renominates Cameron Hamilton to lead disaster response agency Fema | Trump administration

0

Donald Trump has once again nominated Cameron Hamilton to lead the Federal Emergency Management Agency (Fema) after Hamilton was previously fired for publicly opposing plans to abolish the agency.

Hamilton was dismissed last year from his role as acting administrator of the disaster relief agency after testifying before a House appropriations subcommittee. During the hearing, he said: “I do not believe it is in the best interests of the American people to eliminate the Federal Emergency Management Agency.”

Since returning to office last January, Trump has repeatedly moved to cut the agency, while vowing to shift greater responsibility for disaster preparedness to state and local governments. Kristi Noem, then homeland security secretary who oversaw a broad restructuring of Fema, echoed that approach, saying: “I think the president recognizes that Fema should not exist the way that it always has been.”

However, recent shifts suggest the administration may be backing away from its earlier vows to abolish Fema entirely. Following Noem’s ouster over the summer and the appointment of Markwayne Mullin as new homeland security secretary, more than a dozen Fema employees who had previously criticized the Trump administration and its cuts were reinstated last month.

Hamilton previously led the agency from January to May of last year and, if confirmed, would return to oversee a significantly reduced workforce amid growing staff frustration over the administration’s decisions.

In a statement on Monday, Shana Udvardy, senior climate resilience policy analyst at Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS), said: “President Trump is revealing his chaotic governing style by nominating a candidate who was fired last year and who lacks the experience and qualifications for the job as required under law.”

She added: “Hamilton is now back as a nominee to lead an agency that has been depleted by thousands of job cuts, unstable leadership and resource reductions, leaving Fema less prepared to confront more frequent and intense extreme weather and climate-fueled disasters. Congress should press him for answers that the American public needs, with the safety and well-being of communities on the line.”

Amazon halts sales of illegal high-speed ebikes in California after fatal crashes | California

0

Amazon said it plans to stop selling certain high-speed electric bicycles in California after a string of high-profile incidents and a consumer alert that the state attorney general issued last month.

In April an 81-year-old man in Orange county died after a teenager illegally riding an e-motorcycle struck him. The teen’s mother, Tommi Jo Mejer, has since been charged with involuntary manslaughter in Ed Ashman’s death as officials say she was warned it was illegal for her son to operate the vehicle.

Just before that incident, state attorney general Rob Bonta and several county district attorneys put forth a consumer alert about the safety laws related to ebikes. Vehicles with two wheels that can exceed 28mph using pedal assistance or can exceed 20mph with throttle assistance are considered mopeds or motorcycles rather than ebikes, the alert stated.

The alert warned that retailers were marketing two-wheeled vehicles as electric bicycles when they did not qualify as such. Mopeds and motorcycles have age limits and require special licensing.

“Sometimes, what looks like an ebike or is marketed as an ebike is not a bike at all. We are seeing a surge of safety incidents on our sidewalks, parks and streets,” Bonta said.

Amazon said the retailer is working to remove listings for ebikes or e-motorcycles that do not comply with California regulations.

KCRA 3 reported finding vehicles listed as ebikes that could exceed 40mph(65km/h). The outlet said that after contacting Amazon, the company removed the listings and said it would require third-party companies selling ebikes to follow state laws and company policy.

Todd Spitzer, the Orange county district attorney who charged Mejer, praised the development and noted in a statement that last week a 13-year-old boy died after crashing an e-motorcycle he was riding.

“More than 100 deaths across the United States have resulted from ebike and E-motorcycle crashes and injuries have increased 430% in the last four years in southern California,” Spitzer said.

Fetterman rips Democrats on Maher podcast for chasing Trump on every issue

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., ripped Democrats during a conversation with Bill Maher on Monday, arguing that the party will hate anything President Donald Trump does.

During the “Club Random” podcast on Monday, Fetterman said, “if he came out for ice cream and lazy Sundays, we would f—ing hate it.”

Maher said the other side did it too and said he and the senator were on the same page.

“People attack us because they think we’re picking fights with the left,” Maher said. “We’re not picking fights. We just don’t let it pass if we think something is stupid.”

Fetterman then wondered why politicians had to have a “f—ing opinion on everything.”

“We all have platforms and we all have a personal bandwidth. You have to choose what’s your — and I don’t chase these small, weird things because it has no impact on the overall,” he said.

Maher said, “They have to be at war,” and suggested Democrats let thoughts that aren’t important “pass like a cloud.”

“Go after the stuff that matters — the politicization of the Justice Department, the threatening of elections. I mean, all the stuff,” he said. “And the stuff like ballroom stuff, that’s the cloud. It just doesn’t matter. And if you chase it, it’s so much more about you.”

The Pennsylvania Democrat said the party can’t seem to resist its worst impulses.

“And now we’re, you know, the Democratic Party, we can’t resist our worst impulses as things continue to accelerate,” Fetterman said. “We keep trying to get ahead of California. You know, as a national party, we can’t get ahead of California, of these kinds of policies and these kinds of thoughts of what we think it should be.”

BILL MAHER MOCKS DEMS FOR TRYING TO FIND ‘THEIR JOE ROGAN,’ SUGGESTS FIGURING OUT HOW THEY LOST HIM

Fetterman has been critical of his own party on numerous occasions.

During an appearance on “Real Time with Bill Maher” on Friday, Fetterman said Democrats alienated young male voters by increasingly portraying men as “part of the problem.”

“Well, without a doubt, though you know there’s part of the Democratic Party became more and more anti-men or describing that they were part of the problem, or they have toxic traits,” Fetterman said during the discussion.

He added, “And that’s why there’s been such a big, big migration away from the Democratic Party from young men, and that’s that’s really why, one of the parts why we lost in 2024.”

“We’ve lost the vote,” Fetterman later said while discussing traditional union workers and male voters. “You talk to any of the traditional union members that are men. You know, they — we’ve lost them a long time ago.”

Fetterman argued Democrats cannot rebuild support among male voters by blaming them for broader societal problems.

“Now if you identify anyone as the problem or blame them for some things, then you’re going to lose,” Fetterman said.

Virginia Democrats ask US supreme court to revive voter-approved electoral map | Virginia

0

Virginia Democrats asked the US supreme court on Monday to revive a congressional map designed to boost their party’s chances in November’s midterm elections, turning to the court as Republicans – including allies of Donald Trump – seek to preserve narrow control of Congress.

The case thrusts Virginia into an unusual, mid-decade redistricting showdown, as courts weigh whether lawmakers can remake House districts outside the normal post-census cycle – with control of a narrowly divided Congress potentially hanging in the balance.

Virginia’s top court on 8 May threw out a new electoral map that had been crafted to flip four Republican-held US congressional seats to Democrats, dealing a setback to Democratic hopes of retaking the US House. Republicans also hold a majority in the US Senate.

In a four-three decision, the Virginia supreme court rejected a Democratic-backed ballot measure approved by voters in April that reconfigured the state’s US House map for partisan advantage.

Ruling in favor of a Republican challenge, the court’s majority found that Democratic lawmakers had not followed proper procedure last year when they rushed to approve the referendum in time to reach the ballot ahead of the November vote.

The Virginia Democrats, led by Don Scott, the Democratic speaker of the Virginia House of Delegates, told the justices in a filing that the state court’s ruling has “deprived voters, candidates, and the Commonwealth of their right to the lawfully enacted congressional districts”.

The lawmakers cited a 2023 supreme court ruling that warned that state courts “may not transgress the ordinary bounds of judicial review such that they arrogate to themselves the power vested in state legislatures to regulate federal elections”.

In a process called redistricting, the boundaries of legislative districts across the US are reconfigured to reflect population changes as measured by the national US census every 10 years. Redistricting traditionally has been carried out by state legislatures at the start of each new decade.

In the unusual mid-decade redistricting fight, Republicans now hold a clear advantage. The tit-for-tat battle began last year when Trump pushed Texas Republicans to rip up their electoral map and draw new district lines that aim to flip up to five Democratic-held seats to Republicans.

Democrats suffered a major blow when the US supreme court’s conservative six-three majority gutted a key provision of the 1965 Voting Rights Act, opening the door for Republican-led southern states to dismantle Democratic-held majority-Black and majority-Latino districts. Black and Latino voters tend to support Democratic candidates.

Watching the NFL will cost more, require more streaming services than ever this season

Earlier this year, six in 10 sports fans said they have skipped watching a game at least a few times in the past year because it was “too expensive,” according to a new Fox News poll. In addition, 72% of fans said major sporting events should be required to air on free broadcast television instead of behind streaming paywalls.

The 2026-27 NFL schedule is not going to make those fans any happier.

While the full season schedule will not be released until Thursday, reports about some of the league’s streaming plans are already available. Most notably, Netflix is expanding its slate this season to include at least 49ers-Rams in Australia in Week 1 on Thursday, Sept. 10, along with games on Christmas Day and Thanksgiving Eve.

DOUBLE STANDARD: IT’S ONLY A CONTROVERSY WHEN CAITLIN CLARK WALKS OUT WITH MORGAN WALLEN

Netflix previously only carried NFL games on Christmas. That means fans who subscribe to Netflix only for the NFL will now have to pay for at least three months this season instead of just one.

Peacock will also air an exclusive prime time broadcast Saturday, Jan. 2. For context, all NBC games already stream on Peacock, but this one will air only on Peacock, which recently raised its price to $10.99 per month.

Of course, fans will still need Amazon Prime for the entire regular season and the first weekend of the playoffs for “Thursday Night Football” and one wild card match up.

What’s more, the one streamer that offered games for free might not be involved at all this season. According to Puck, YouTube may sit out entirely after balking at splitting a five-game package with Netflix.

It remains unclear how the NFL will distribute the rest of that package. It is also not clear whether ESPN+ will carry an exclusive game again this season, as it did last year. If so, that adds yet another subscription, even if only for a month.

The expanded schedule also raises concerns about the quality of play. The league plans to add two Wednesday games this season, one during opening week and another the night before Thanksgiving. There is already a game on Black Friday. That leaves Tuesday as the only day without a game, at least for now. At this rate, even that could change.

Perhaps the NFL will look to work Apple TV into the equation to celebrate Election Day on Tuesday, Nov. 3. (We are kidding. Sort of.)

Spreading games across more days creates shorter turnarounds, uneven rest and a higher risk of injuries. Players have less time to recover, preparation suffers and the overall quality of play declines. It also increases the number of match ups featuring struggling teams and inconsistent quarterback play. Simply put, there are not enough quality teams to justify expanding national windows this aggressively.

Consider Thanksgiving week. Ten teams will have already played by Sunday, yet the league still needs to fill afternoon, prime time and Monday night slots. Fans saw the result last year on Christmas Eve, when all three games were either meaningless or close to it, featuring just one playoff team.

At some point, the NFL will have to decide whether squeezing every possible dollar out of media rights is worth diminishing the on-field product.

Granted, that moment is not coming in 2026, when the league will be as expensive and as difficult to watch as ever.

Australians on hantavirus-hit ship to be repatriated via Netherlands

Australians among the remaining 22 passengers on board the MV Hondius were scheduled to be evacuated on a Dutch flight to the Netherlands overnight.

The repatriation operation had evacuated 94 people of 19 different nationalities on Sunday, said the Spanish health minister, Mónica García.

García said it was decided to fly the Australians to the Netherlands because of timing problems with a second plane that was to fly passengers back to Australia from Tenerife.

Instead all the remaining passengers were evacuated on the Netherlands flight.

Chalmers says budget will include efforts to ‘rebalance’ the tax system

Jim Chalmers, the federal treasurer, said the war in the Middle East has been a “big influence” on the budget, saying the crisis and its impact on fuel prices had made the inflation challenge much worse and put pressure on economic growth.

Chalmers told RN Breakfast:

double quotation markWe’ve made sure that our policy decisions are making a positive contribution to the budget rather than detracting from the budget position. And we’re showing spending restraint as well. And so, what that means is the budget tonight will be stronger than it was in December … It will be focused on resilience and reform.

The treasurer went on to say that the housing market “isn’t working” and that the tax system surrounding it is “out of whack”:

double quotation markThere will be efforts to rebalance the tax system so that we can better align the treatment of income from people who work with the people who earn their income in other ways. … The fairer the tax system is and the stronger the tax system is too.

Overwhelmingly, the tax system and the housing market is not working, particularly for younger Australians. There is an urgency now to fixing this.
