NFL legend appears to take jab at NBC colleague over alleged Bill Belichick snub

New England Patriots legend Rodney Harrison appeared to take a swipe at his colleague Tony Dungy after Bill Belichick was left out of the Pro Football Hall of Fame on the first ballot.

The Hall of Fame voters’ decision to keep Belichick out of Canton on the first ballot caused backlash across the NFL world. Social media began to band together to try to find the voters who decided not to give Belichick the nod.

Dungy, the former Indianapolis Colts head coach, was accused of being one of the voters who didn’t back Belichick. He hasn’t revealed his vote and Harrison appeared to be talking to Dungy directly when he defended his former head coach.

“Any list that doesn’t include Bill Belichick at the top is absolutely wrong,” Harrison said during NBC’s Super Bowl LX coverage. “And a lot of those players that we mention, they’re great players. I played with Drew Brees, I played with Adam Vinatieri, but there’s nobody more deserving than coach Belichick.

“I’ve seen his greatness. I’ve seen him design defenses to stop your (Dungy’s) offense. You just look at the players that he’s impacted. He’s been unbelievable. And when I look throughout the Hall of Fame … Tom BradyTom Brady wouldn’t be Tom Brady without Bill Belichick. And that’s the disappointing part of it, coach. And you guys got it wrong.”

Dungy, again, didn’t say whether he voted for Belichick, citing an “oath” he took to avoid discussing any actions behind the scenes. Out of the category that Belichick was in – with Robert Kraft, Roger Craig, Ken Anderson and L.C. Greenwood – he didn’t pick up enough votes. Craig was voted into the Hall of Fame out of those selections.

The Super Bowl champion coach took issue with the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s voting procedures.

“People think we voted against Bill Belichick,” Dungy said. “We did not. In fact, the same exact vote. As a matter of fact, if the same exact vote had taken place, same totals as two years ago, Bill Belichick would have been in and so would another deserving Hall of Famer and that is why I’m upset. That is not right.”

T20 World Cup: Nepal fans light up Wankhede despite painful England loss | ICC Men’s T20 World Cup

0

Mumbai, India — For most of a warm and breezy Sunday afternoon in Mumbai, the Wankhede Stadium felt closer to Kathmandu than India’s southern metropolis as thousands of Nepalese fans sang, danced and dared to dream while their cricket team took on the mighty England in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

A sea of red and blue replica shirts heaved in every nook and corner of the iconic 33,000-capacity venue, with supporters turning the famed Indian stadium into their adopted home.

A banner, saying “Feel the Thrill” stretched across stands and captured the mood perfectly as chants, drums and Nepali tunes echoed throughout the ground.

From children arriving with flags painted on their faces to elderly supporters proudly wearing the traditional Dhaka topi – a traditional Nepalese hat – fans of all ages turned up for what felt like a cricketing festival drenched in Nepali culture.

‘We almost won’

On the pitch, Nepal’s players delivered one of their most memorable performances in recent years, with the match ending in heartbreak as the team’s spirited chase fell agonisingly short on the final ball.

With the odds stacked heavily against them, Nepal walked out to face two-time champions England fully aware of the vast gulf in experience and pedigree compared to their opponents.

They hoped, though, that their hunger, intensity and fearless approach to the game could keep them firmly in the contest.

Chasing a challenging target of 185, the Rhinos proved why they are one of the most promising teams in associate cricket, as Lokesh Bam’s late heroics, coupled with Rohit Paudel and Dipendra Singh Airee’s onslaughts, pushed the contest to the last ball.

“We almost won but couldn’t go through because the players lack experience,” Nepal fan Subodh Dhakal, who travelled from Kathmandu, told Al Jazeera. “Experience will come with time, but the team played well.”

Dhakal, a doctor and passionate Nepal supporter, planned a quick two-day trip to attend the match with his wife, after watching the Nepal Premier League – the domestic league whose growth has been central to the nation’s progress in the sport.

Like Dhakal, Satyam Pokhrel also made his way to Mumbai from the Nepalese capital. Joined by a group of friends, Pokhrel revealed his plans to stay for the remaining three Nepal games, all of which are scheduled at the same venue.

“Nepal had a really good chance [to win], but were unlucky,” he said. “The match was very close; I’m proud of the team. They showed great energy and are capable of winning the upcoming games.”

Sunday’s heroics against England were not the first time Nepal troubled stronger opponents. Five months before the World Cup, they beat the West Indies 2-1 in a three-match series — their first bilateral series victory over a full member of the International Cricket Council (ICC) — while in 2024 they came within a run of upsetting South Africa at the T20 World Cup.

Nepal’s debut at the tournament, in 2014, led to a famous win over a highly-rated Afghanistan team.

‘Don’t count us out’

For many in the stands, being part of the atmosphere required journeys just as memorable as the match itself.

Bhuvan Rawal travelled from Tikapur in far-western Nepal, spending three days on the road to reach Mumbai by bus.

“I wasn’t bothered by the time or money taken to come here. Watching Nepal play at a World Cup is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me,” said the 26-year-old.

“I’ve come with around 200 to 300 supporters from Nepal. We were aware of the match schedule since last year and were excited to be at Wankhede Stadium… Mumbai is our second home now!”

Rawal, who played cricket in his younger years and works as a gym trainer, believes lowly-ranked teams such as Nepal aren’t just here to make up the numbers at the expanded 20-team T20 World Cup.

“We may be a small country, but Nepal is very beautiful and can play wonderful cricket. I understand there’s a difference between full ICC members and associate teams, but don’t count us out.

“No team is too small to challenge the giants,” he said.

Tim Curry calls missing iconic villain role one of his ‘great regrets’

0

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Tim Curry has played some of cinema’s most unforgettable characters, but the actor recently revealed that one role he never landed still haunts him.

During an appearance on “The Academy” YouTube channel, Curry, 79, reflected on his career of over five decades, sharing he is still disappointed that he was never even considered for one iconic part

“One of my great regrets is that I read the script of ‘Silence of the Lambs’ and I desperately wanted to play Hannibal Lecter,” Curry said.

“My agent couldn’t get me in the room, but Tony Hopkins did a great job,” he admitted.

The Silence of the Lambs,” which premiered on Valentine’s Day 1991, tells the tale of Clarice Starling, an FBI cadet, who must resort to receiving help from incarcerated cannibal Hannibal Lecter to catch another serial killer. The psychological horror movie starred Anthony Hopkins as Lecter and Jodie Foster as Starling.

The film grossed more than $270 million worldwide and earned five Oscars, including best picture, best actor for Hopkins and best actress for Foster. Hopkins went to reprise the role in Ridley Scott’s sequel movie “Hannibal” (2001), and prequel film “Red Dragon” (2002).

Hopkins, who famously gave a new meaning to fava beans and a nice Chianti, told Variety that he initially thought “The Silence of the Lambs” was a movie for children – at least until he read the script.

“I was in London in 1989, doing a play called ‘M. Butterfly,’” he recalled. “My agent sent the script.”

After 10 pages, Hopkins immediately called his agent back, wanting to know if the offer to star in “Silence of the Lambs” was real.

“This is the best script I’ve ever read,” Hopkins declared at the time.

MACAULAY CULKIN KEEPS HIS ‘HOME ALONE’ IDENTITY SECRET FROM HIS KIDS FOR ADORABLE REASON

During an appearance at the 2015 Austin Film Festival, “The Silence of the Lambs” director Jonathan Demme recalled that Sean Connery was his first choice to play Lecter but the James Bond star rejected the role after reading the script.

“Word came back shortly that he thought it was disgusting and wouldn’t dream of playing that part,” Demme remembered during an interview with Paul Thomas Anderson, via Deadline. “So, great, now we can go to Tony Hopkins.”

Demme explained that he believed Hopkins would be a great fit for the role after being impressed with the actor’s performance as surgeon “Frederick Treves” in the 1980 historical drama “The Elephant Man.”

“It was so easy for me to see that Anthony would be a superb Dr. Lecter because he had been such an amazing good doctor in ‘The Elephant Man,’” Demme said. “He had been as believable a doctor as you can imagine, and he was good. What if you cast Anthony Hopkins in the part of Dr. Lecter, who is not the worst doctor, but he’s a… good doctor turned bad? That was my engine for Anthony Hopkins.”

Though Curry lost out on the chance to play Lecter, the actor has portrayed a string of iconic characters. He rose to cult-icon status as Dr. Frank-N-Furter in 1975’s “The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” followed by memorable turns as the malevolent clown Pennywise in the 1990 miniseries “It” and the butler Wadsworth in “Clue.”

Curry also left a lasting impression as the demonic “Darkness” in Legend, Rooster Hannigan in “Annie,” and Long John Silver in “Muppet Treasure Island.” He is also known for his voice work including playing Nigel Thornberry in “The Wild Thornberrys.”

During his appearance on “The Academy” channel, Curry discussed other roles for which he was considered but ultimately did not land.

He noted that he auditioned for the burglar Marv in “Home Alone” after being approached by director Chris Columbus, who had purchased two of Curry’s studio albums.

“I actually met Chris Columbus, who apparently had the only two albums of mine and was a bit of a fan. Nobody else had ever bought them,” he joked.

While the part of Marv ultimately went to Daniel Stern, Columbus cast Curry as the Plaza Hotel concierge Mr. Hector in the sequel “Home Alone: 2.”

Curry remembered working with a young Macaulay Culkin, who played the lead role of Kevin McAllister in both films.

“Mac used to stay up watching late-night movies and fall asleep in the makeup chair,” he recalled. “I liked him. He was a very nice kid.”

Before Jeremy Irons was cast, Curry was considered for the role of the villainous lion Scar in the mega-hit 1994 Disney animated movie “The Lion King.”

“That would have been nice,” Curry said.

Senator doesn’t trust telcos on Salt Typhoon mitigations • The Register

0

Infosec In Brief So-hot-right-now AI assistant OpenClaw, which is very much not secure right now, has teamed up with security scanning service VirusTotal.

The tie-up means “skills” in the ClawHub – custom plugins for the OpenClaw assistant – will be scanned by over 70 antivirus scanners and URL/domain blocklisting services.

“OpenClaw skills are powerful. They extend what your AI agent can do—from controlling smart home devices to managing finances to automating workflows. But with that power comes risk,” the assistant’s developers wrote in a Saturday post that explains the decision to work with VirusTotal.

The post points out that working with the scanning service won’t totally secure OpenClaw.

“Let’s be clear: this is not a silver bullet,” the developers wrote. “VirusTotal scanning won’t catch everything. A skill that uses natural language to instruct an agent to do something malicious won’t trigger a virus signature. A carefully crafted prompt injection payload won’t show up in a threat database.”

Senator fears telcos haven’t built good defenses against Salt Typhoon

Fallout from the Salt Typhoon hack of leading American telcos continues, and one US Senator isn’t convinced that victim companies are being honest.

Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA), the ranking member of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, last week sent a letter to her Republican counterpart demanding the CEOs of AT&T and Verizon appear before the group to explain why they keep withholding security assessments performed in the wake of 2024 revelations of what’s been called the worst telecom hack in US history.

Chinese-linked hackers with Salt Typhoon reportedly had extensive access to the three carriers’ networks, plus others they used to spy on customers, including officials at US government agencies. Telcos supposedly reinforced their network perimeters and ejected Salt Typhoon after the intrusions were made public, but Cantwell has her doubts.

“The FBI and other federal agencies … detailed guidance on how to mitigate the risk from Advanced Persistent Threat actors like Salt Typhoon,” Cantwell wrote to Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX). “However, reports indicate the telecommunications providers have taken few protective actions thus far due to the costs.”

AT&T and Verizon have refused to release security assessments conducted by Mandiant in the wake of the attacks. Cantwell said the documents detail steps the telcos took to secure their networks and eject Salt Typhoon. Not only have the pair declined to make the reports public after acknowledging they had been conducted, but Cantwell said both stymied her efforts to get copies from Mandiant, too.

“Both AT&T and Verizon have chosen not to cooperate, which raises serious questions about the extent to which Americans who use these networks remain exposed to unacceptable risk,” Cantwell argued. “I believe we must hear directly from the CEOs of AT&T and Verizon so Americans have clarity and confidence about the security of their communications.”

Newly discovered Chinese APT targets fresh vulns

Checkpoint researchers have spotted a previously-unknown Chinese cyber espionage group they rate as “active and capable.”

Checkpoint named the group Amaranth-Dragon and believes it is targeting countries in Southeast Asia with narrow, focused attacks that suggest a desire to collect intelligence on government institutions and law enforcement agencies.

The group is quick to attack recently disclosed vulnerabilities and campaigns by referencing recent newsworthy events that it hopes will lure victims into interacting with dangerous content.

Checkpoint noted the group was particularly quick to make use of a compression vulnerability in WinRAR that was first reported in September 2025, incorporating it into campaigns within days of its disclosure.

Checkpoint believes Amaranth-Dragon is likely affiliated with APT-41, a well-known Chinese cyber espionage group that typically targets foreign nations for intel-gathering purposes.

Ukrainian crooks nabbed for POS scheme

Ukrainian authorities last week arrested four people for stealing more than ₴13M ($302,000) between 2023 and 2024 from banks using a rather convoluted scheme involving fake businesses, point of sale (POS) terminals, and bogus refunds.

The scheme started, according to Ukrainian cyber police, with the registration of businesses that acquired POS terminals from banks for use in their supposedly legitimate operations. Terminals were installed at “previously prepared premises” that served as fake business locations, and the gang made purchases of nonexistent goods from the businesses they registered.

At that point, the crooks would trigger refunds for the things they didn’t buy, which is where the crime comes in.

“Given the peculiarities of automatic transaction processing, such refunds were compensated at the expense of banking institutions, which allowed the perpetrators to illegally obtain funds,” Ukrainian law enforcement explained. “The stolen money was legalized by converting it into cryptocurrency and then exchanging it for cash, in particular using P2P trading on crypto exchanges.”

The gang members each face 12 years in prison if convicted.

SmarterMail not looking so sharp after third KEV in two weeks

Microsoft Exchange alternative SmarterMail isn’t living up to its name after it revealed several vulnerabilities in recent weeks.

It started on January 26th, with 2 CVEs in SmarterTools’ SmarterMail software, CVE-2026-23760 (CVSS 9.3) and CVE-2025-52691 (CVSS 10.0), both being added to CISA’s catalog of known exploited vulnerabilities on the same day.

The first, 23760, allows an attacker to gain administrator privileges to SmarterMail instances due to an authentication bypass vulnerability in the platform’s password reset API, while 52691 offers the chance for remote code execution by abusing an unrestricted file upload issue.

Fast forward to last week, and CISA added a third issue (CVE-2026-24423, CVSS 9.3) to its KEV catalog. This flaw is an authentication problem in SmarterMail’s ConnectToHub API, which could allow an attacker to gain command execution on an affected server by redirecting it to a malicious HTTP server used to deliver malicious commands.

CISA is aware of the vulnerability being used in ransomware campaigns, so get those security updates deployed.

Crypto kidnappings in France

A woman and her mother were abducted in France last week Wednesday by criminals hoping to ransom the pair to the woman’s partner, an executive at a cryptocurrency company.

The criminals got nothing , as a man freed the kidnapped pair after hearing their cries for help.

According to French outlet Le Dauphiné, this is the third such abduction and cryptocurrency ransom demand of late, with an elderly couple abducted in mid-January, and an elderly man kidnapped late last month. In the other cases, children of the abductees were involved in the cryptocurrency space. ®

Portugal elects Socialist Party’s Seguro as president in landslide | Elections News

0

With 95 percent of votes counted, 63-year-old Antonio Jose Seguro is on 66 percent.

Antonio Jose Seguro of the centre-left Socialist Party has secured a landslide victory and a five-year term as Portugal’s president in a run-off vote, beating his far-right, anti-establishment rival, Andre Ventura, according to partial results.

With 95 percent of votes counted, 63-year-old Seguro has garnered 66 percent. Ventura trailed at 34 percent, still likely to secure a much stronger result than the 22.8 percent his anti-immigration Chega party achieved in last year’s general election. Ballots in large cities such as Lisbon and Porto are counted towards the end.

Recommended Stories

list of 3 itemsend of list

Two exit polls have placed Seguro in the 67-73 percent range, and Ventura at 27-33 percent.

A succession of storms in recent days has failed to deter voters, with turnout at about the same level as in the first round on January 18, even though three municipal councils in southern and central Portugal had to postpone voting by a week due to floods. The postponement affected some 37,000 registered voters, or about 0.3 percent of the total, and is unlikely to influence the overall result.

Portugal’s presidency is a largely ceremonial role, but it holds some key powers, including the ability to dissolve parliament under certain circumstances.

Ventura, 43, who had trailed Seguro in opinion polls, had argued that the government’s response to the fierce gales and floods was “useless” and called for the entire election to be postponed.

However, the authorities rejected the demand.

Seguro, during his last campaign rally on Friday, accused Ventura of “doing everything to keep the Portuguese from turning out to vote”.

Despite his loss on Sunday, Ventura, a charismatic former television sports commentator, can now boast increased support, reflecting the growing influence of the far right in Portugal and much of Europe. He is also the first extreme-right candidate to make it through to a run-off vote in Portugal.

Meanwhile, Seguro has cast himself as the candidate of a “modern and moderate” left, who can actively mediate to avert political crises and defend democratic values. He received backing from prominent conservatives after the first round amid concerns over what many see as Ventura’s populist, hardline tendencies.

But Prime Minister Luis Montenegro – whose minority centre-right government has to rely on support from either the Socialists or the far right to get legislation through parliament – declined to endorse either candidate in the second round.

While the role is largely ceremonial, the head of state has the power to dissolve parliament and call early elections.

The new president will succeed outgoing conservative Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa in early March.

The Americans needed to finish near the top in ice dancing, pair skating, women’s singles skating and men’s singles skating. Madison Chock and Evan Bates crushed the ice dancing discipline, scoring a 133.23 and picking up the 10 points needed to start the day on top.

Danny O’Shea and Kam Ellie did enough to pick up one more point than they received in the qualifications. Though, the pair fell behind Japan’s Ryuichi Kihara and Riku Miura, Georgia’s Luka Berulava and Anastasiia Metelkina and Italy’s Niccolo Macii and Sara Conti.

He scored a 200.03 and got the 10 points needed to vault the U.S. into first place. Japan’s Shun Sato put the pressure on with his performance but only scored a 194.86.

It was the second gold medal for the U.S. on Sunday. Breezy Johnson took home the first earlier in the day in alpine skiing women’s downhill.

Should Lindsey Vonn have even been at the Winter Olympics? | World News

Lindsey Vonn, 41, said she was willing to risk everything to become the oldest Alpine skiing medallist.

Not even rupturing the ACL in her left knee racing nine days before the event was going to stop the 41-year-old American.

“As long as there’s a chance,” she said after arriving in Italy, “I will try.”

Hers was the most-anticipated event. It would have been even without the drama of the injury in Switzerland.

Even if you are not the biggest Winter Olympics fan, you probably know her name.

She came out of retirement last year at the age of 41, chasing the dream of a second Olympic gold to add to her 2010 downhill title.

Could her body cope? Not only with the fresh injury, but racing on a right knee that was rebuilt from an injury in 2013.

There was shock and despair in Cortina when she crashed 13 seconds out of the starting gate.

The fall may have been softened by the mandatory safety airbag that inflated after losing control, but screams could be heard from Vonn after landing awkwardly at high speed.

And in a repeat of the scenes witnessed nine days earlier in Crans-Montana, she was taken to hospital on a stretcher dangling from the bottom of a helicopter.

Medics will now be assessing the long-term damage caused following surgery on her broken left leg.

It could be a dramatic and horrific end to the career of one of the most successful female skiers of all time.

Trump defends Bill Belichick after Hall of Fame snub

0

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

President Donald Trump expressed support for Bill Belichick after the NFL legend was blocked from entering the Pro Football Hall of Fame on the first ballot earlier in the week.

Trump brushed off a “controversial” couple of years Belichick may have had, with his personal life spilling out into the spotlight. Still, Trump said during his interview with NBC News that the former New England Patriots head coach should have been a shoo-in.

“I thought it was terrible. He’s won so much,” he said. “He’s won so many Super Bowls. (He) became a little bit controversial, I guess, after that, his little period after that. During it, he was just a great coach. I thought it was very inappropriate.”

“He’s had a little bit of a controversial year-and-a-half, two years, maybe, but what difference does that make? He should be in there right at the top,” the president added.

Trump didn’t mention anything specific. But Belichick’s love life with Jordon Hudson was thrust into the national spotlight as he got to work as the North Carolina Tar Heels’ head coach. The tipping point came during Belichick’s interview with CBS and Hudson shutting down a question about how they met.

Hudson’s presence with the Tar Heels raised eyebrows before the season started. The Tar Heels were 4-8 in Belichick’s first year as head coach.

As rumors that Belichick was going to be left out first surfaced, the president weighed in with criticism against the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

“It is the same mindset that gave pro football the new and unwatchable ‘Sissy’ Kickoff Rule, that made it possible for Bill Belichick to not be elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Both are ridiculous and should be overturned!” he wrote on Truth Social, touching on the league’s dynamic kickoff rules.

Belichick, who is currently the head coach of the North Carolina Tar Heels, was 302-165 in his career as a head coach between the Patriots and the Cleveland Browns. He won six titles with Tom Brady as the head coach of the Patriots before he mutually parted ways with the franchise after the 2023 season.

He served as a defensive assistant under Bill Parcells with the New York Giants from 1979-1991. The team won two Super Bowls in that time.
