At least 42 anti-ICE protesters were arrested Saturday after chaos unfolded outside the Bishop Henry Whipple Federal Building in Minneapolis, following a memorial for Minneapolis residents Renee Good and Alex Pretti, who were fatally shot by federal agents last month.

Footage showed dozens of people being arrested as agitators shouted insults at state patrol officers, tore down yellow police tape, and hurled lewd objects at law enforcement.

The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office said at least 42 people were arrested, KSTP reported.

The chaos followed a memorial for Good and Pretti, which was hosted exactly one month from the date of Good’s death at Powderhorn Park, roughly a 15-minute drive from the federal building.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey alleged the group was “spreading love” in a social media post.

“Thousands showed up to remember and honor Renee Good and Alex Pretti,” Frey wrote. “Minneapolis is with you—and we will keep spreading love.”

Brad Arnold of Grammy-nominated rock band 3 Doors Down dies aged 47 | US news

0

Brad Arnold, the lead singer of the Grammy-nominated rock band 3 Doors Down, has died, months after he announced that he had been diagnosed with stage 4 kidney cancer. He was 47.

The band said in a statement on Saturday that Arnold “passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, in his sleep after his courageous battle with cancer”.

3 Doors Down formed in Mississippi in 1995 and four years later received a Grammy nomination for the breakout hit Kryptonite. Arnold wrote the song in math class when he was 15 years old, according to the band statement.

Their debut album, The Better Life, sold more than 6m copies. A second Grammy nomination came in 2003, for the song When I’m Gone.

The band said Arnold “helped redefine mainstream rock music, blending post-grunge accessibility with emotionally direct songwriting and lyrical themes that resonated with everyday listeners”.

3 Doors Down released six albums, most recently Us and the Night in 2016. Singles included Loser, Duck and Run and Be Like That, which appeared on the soundtrack for the 2001 film American Pie 2.

While promoting their fifth album, Time of My Life, Arnold said he considered himself lucky to have carved out a career in the music business.

“If you do something as long as we’ve done it, you can’t help but get better at it, you know?” Arnold told the Associated Press in 2011.

In 2017, 3 Doors Down performed at the first inauguration concert of Donald Trump.

Arnold announced his cancer diagnosis last May, saying clear cell renal carcinoma had metastasized to his lungs. The band was forced to cancel a summer tour.

“His music reverberated far beyond the stage, creating moments of connection, joy, faith, and shared experiences that will live on long after the stages he performed on,” the band said.

Appeals court upholds Trump detention policy for illegal immigrants

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

A federal appeals court on Friday upheld the Trump administration’s mass detention policy, allowing illegal immigrants to be detained without bond.

The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled 2-1 that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) can lawfully deny bond hearings to immigrants arrested nationwide under the Constitution and federal immigration law.

Attorney General Pam Bondi reacted to the ruling, saying the Department of Justice (DOJ) “secured yet another crucial legal victory” in support of President Donald Trump’s immigration agenda.

“The Fifth Circuit just held illegal aliens can rightfully be detained without bond — a significant blow against activist judges who have been undermining our efforts to make America safe again at every turn,” she wrote on X. “Thank you to Ben Hayes who argued this case, Brett Shumate and the @DOJCivil Division. We will continue vindicating President Trump’s law and order agenda in courtrooms across the country.”

Circuit judge Edith H. Jones wrote in the majority opinion that “unadmitted aliens apprehended anywhere in the United States are ineligible for release on bond, regardless of how long they have resided inside the United States.”

Many illegal immigrants who were not detained at the border previously had the opportunity to request a bond hearing as their cases progressed, and those without a criminal history who were not deemed flight risks were often granted bond.

“That prior Administrations decided to use less than their full enforcement authority under” the law “does not mean they lacked the authority to do more,” Jones wrote.

Writing in dissent, Circuit Judge Dana M. Douglas said that the members of Congress who passed the Immigration and Nationality Act roughly 30 years ago “would be surprised to learn it had also required the detention without bond of two million people.”

Douglas noted that some of the people detained are “the spouses, mothers, fathers, and grandparents of American citizens.”

The ruling stems from two separate cases filed last year against the Trump administration, both involving Mexican nationals who had lived in the U.S. for more than a decade and were not considered flight risks, according to their attorneys.

PCB Denies Talks With ICC: There is an uproar regarding whether the match between India and Pakistan will take place in the ICC T20 World Cup or not. Pakistan Cricket Board termed the report running in the media as a rumor in which it is being said that PCB is talking to ICC regarding the match.

New Delhi. The drama regarding the India vs Pakistan match in Colombo is increasing every day. BCCI has maintained silence and is following ICC protocols. The Pakistan Cricket Board is adamant on its decision to boycott the match against the defending champions on February 15. After Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif did not allow the team to play against India, several attempts have been made to get the PCB and the Pakistan government to reconsider their stance. However, till now there has been no change in this direction.

It was claimed in many reports that PCB has again started talks with ICC regarding its boycott decision. But the board rejected all these reports on Saturday. In a statement issued on social media platform Aamir Mir said, “I completely reject the claim of a renowned Indian sports journalist that the PCB contacted the ICC.”

This reaction from the PCB spokesperson came after the journalist’s claim that the PCB had started talks with the ICC after being warned of possible legal consequences of skipping the match. According to that claim, the ICC had formally responded, after which the PCB sought talks to resolve the matter.

Mir rejected these claims, saying that sections of the Indian media were “fabricating stories” and with time it would become clear who actually made the contact. He further said, “As always, some sections of the Indian media are spreading fiction. With some patience and time it will become clear who actually contacted and who did not.”

Meanwhile, AFP had earlier reported that the PCB had indeed contacted the ICC after the governing body formally communicated its desire to resolve the issue through dialogue.

Himachal Pradesh Assembly budget session from February 16, government-opposition face to face on RDG

0

Himachal Pradesh government has decided to organize the budget session of the assembly from February 16. In view of the situation arising due to closure of revenue deficit grant, the government has decided to start the assembly session from 16th February. This decision has been notified by the Assembly Secretariat. Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla’s address will be held after 2 pm on the first day of the session.

After the recommendation of the Governor, the Assembly Secretariat has issued its formal notification. After the Governor’s address, condolence motions will be brought in the House. After this the legislative work will start.

This session will be full of chaos!

This session is considered important from political point of view. This session will be quite turbulent amid the ongoing politics regarding the closure of Revenue Deficit Grant (RDG) in the state. The Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu government is in dire straits over the closure of Himachal Pradesh’s Revenue Deficit Grant (RDG) in the Union Budget. The government had sent a proposal to the Governor to call a special session on the closure of RDG, which was not approved by the Governor and now the government has decided to call the budget session from 16th February. In this, RDG will be discussed and the government will present the budget for the upcoming financial year.

Himachal Pradesh is not an economically prosperous state – CM

Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu said, “Himachal government has increased the revenue of Himachal Pradesh through financial discipline, the impact of which has started being seen on the ground, but meanwhile, the Revenue Deficit Grant has been stopped in the Union Budget, which will have a deep impact on the economy of Himachal Pradesh. Himachal Pradesh is not an economically prosperous state, hence without the central grant, development will be affected. Himachal BJP leaders should leave politics and meet the Prime Minister in the interest of the state and meet the Prime Minister for the restoration of RDG. The Himachal government is ready to go to PM Modi even under the leadership of BJP, because the matter is related to the public interest.”

Himachal government will have to reduce its expenses- BJP

On the other hand, BJP has accused the government regarding RDG that the Sukhu government is not serious about the financial condition of Himachal. After the closure of RDG, the government has nominated five chairmen in the state, which makes it clear how serious the government is regarding financial management. The state government has not been able to present its strong case before the 16th Finance Commission regarding increasing its expenditure and income, due to which the government is responsible for the closure of RDG. RDG of 17 states including Himachal has been abolished in the Union Budget, in such a situation the Himachal government will have to reduce its expenses and strengthen its sources of income.

Meanwhile, the Sukhu government has also called a cabinet meeting yesterday regarding RDG. Also, after the cabinet, the government will give a presentation to the opposition regarding the economic condition of Himachal, in which it will be shared what effects the closure of RDG will have on Himachal in the coming years. The government is also considering calling an all-party meeting in the coming days.

Last year, the budget session of Himachal Pradesh Assembly started on March 10, which continued till March 28. 18 meetings were held during the budget session. Although the situation is not clear regarding how many meetings will be held in the budget session this time, it is expected that in the cabinet meeting to be held tomorrow i.e. on Sunday. Budget The dates of the session can be decided.

‘We will pay,’ Savannah Guthrie says in desperate video plea to potential kidnappers of her mother | Arizona

0

Savannah Guthrie told the potential kidnappers of her mother, Nancy Guthrie, on Saturday that the family is prepared to pay for her safe return, as the frantic search for the 84-year-old entered a seventh day.

“We received your message, and we understand. We beg you now to return our mother to us so that we can celebrate with her,” she said in a video posted on social media, flanked by her siblings. “This is the only way we will have peace. This is very valuable to us, and we will pay.”

It was not immediately clear whether the longtime host of NBC’s Today show was referring to a new message from someone who might have kidnapped Nancy Guthrie. The Associated Press reached out to the FBI and the Pima county sheriff’s department in Arizona seeking additional details.

Tucson TV station KOLD reported on Friday that it had received a message via email that was tied to the Guthrie case, the contents of which it could not disclose. The FBI said it was aware of a new message and was reviewing its authenticity.

Investigators think Nancy Guthrie was taken against her will from her home just outside Tucson last weekend. DNA tests showed blood on Guthrie’s front porch was a match to her, Pima county sheriff Chris Nanos has said. Authorities have not identified any suspects or ruled anyone out.

The sheriff said Friday that he was frustrated that a camera at Nancy Guthrie’s home was not able to capture images of anyone the day she went missing.

Investigators have found that the home’s doorbell camera was disconnected early Sunday and that software data recorded movement at the home minutes later. But Nancy Guthrie did not have an active subscription, so none of the images were able to be recovered.

The sheriff said Thursday that investigators have not given up on trying to retrieve camera recordings.

“I wish technology was as easy as we believe it is, that here’s a picture, here’s your bad guy. But it’s not,” Nanos told the AP. “There are pieces of information that come to us from these tech groups that say: ‘This is what we have and we can’t get anymore.’”

The sheriff also said he had no new information about the note to the TV station or other purported ransom letters sent to some media outlets, saying the FBI was handling that side of the investigation.

Meanwhile, concern about Nancy Guthrie’s health condition has grown because, authorities say, she needs vital daily medicine. She is said to have a pacemaker and has dealt with high blood pressure and heart issues, according to sheriff’s dispatcher audio on broadcastify.com.

“Her conditions, I would imagine, are worsening day by day,” Nanos said. “She requires medication. And I have no way of knowing whether they’re getting that medication to her.”

At a larger, peaceful demonstration, which police said numbered about 10,000, people carried cardboard cutouts representing trees felled to build the new bobsled run in Cortina. A group of dancers performed to the beat of drums. Music blasted from a truck leading the march, including a profanity-laced anti-ICE anthem.

“Let’s take back the cities and free the mountains,” a banner by the Unsustainable Olympic Committee said. Another group called the Association of Proletariat Excursionists organized the cutout trees.
