6 dishes culinary star Guy Fieri refuses to eat

Celebrity chef and Food Network star Guy Fieri has built a career on embracing bold flavors across America, from greasy-spoon classics to under-the-radar regional specialties on “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.”

But even the self-proclaimed Mayor of Flavortown has his limits — and some of the dishes Fieri won’t touch are surprisingly common in everyday diets.

Over the years, the 58-year-old Emmy-winning chef has made clear what he avoids and struggles to stomach. Here are six of the most surprising.

PRIVATE CHEFS REVEAL THE 5 ‘HEALTHY’ FOODS THEIR WEALTHY CLIENTS USUALLY AVOID

1. Ghost peppers

An extreme close up horizontal photograph of a ghost pepper, aka Bhut Jolokia, it is one of the worlds hottest peppers weighting in at 1,041,427 Scoville Heat Units, making it 400 times hotter than Tabasco Sauce.Legend has it that it's named ghost pepper because if you eat one you either start seeing ghosts or flat out give up the ghost.

Fieri is known for loving spicy food, but even he has a ceiling.

Ghost peppers, also known as Bhut Jolokia, rank among the hottest peppers in the world at roughly 1 million Scoville heat units, according to Chowhound.

During appearances on “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives,” Fieri approached ghost pepper–laden wings and hot sauces cautiously, once joking that the peppers were “gonna eat my soul.”

2. Peanut butter hamburgers

A cheeseburger topped with peanut butter may sound like a novelty, and perfect for “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives,” but for Fieri, it’s a tough sell.

On an episode of the show filmed in Indiana, Fieri reacted strongly when trying a peanut butter-topped burger, declaring, “I absolutely don’t enjoy that at all … I wanna go home.”

He later gave the combination another try at a California spot and admitted it was better executed the second time around.

3. Cow brains

Organ meats are a recurring theme on Fieri’s no-fly list.

Fieri sampled fried cow brains at Oklahoma’s Cattleman’s Steakhouse during Season 7 of “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives,” and visibly struggled with the texture. Brains are sometimes served with eggs, combining two of Fieri’s least favorite foods in one dish, The Daily Meal reported.

While cow brains are considered a delicacy in some culinary traditions, texture proved to be a deal-breaker for the TV host, per Mental Floss.

4. Haggis

Scotland’s national dish doesn’t get a free pass, either. Haggis, which traditionally includes sheep’s heart, liver and lungs mixed with oats and spices, falls under the offal category. The traditional version containing sheep lungs is banned in the U.S.

Fieri reportedly sampled beer-battered haggis balls at Mac’s Fish ‘N Chips in Santa Barbara during Season 13 of his show, and while he admitted it was well-seasoned, his broader aversion to organ meats remains.

5. Liver and onions

Fieri hasn’t minced words about liver, reportedly saying he “can’t even be in the same room” as the dish.

Liver and onions was previously named America’s “most hated food” by Forbes, suggesting Fieri is far from alone in his distaste. The nutrient-dense dish dates back to ancient Rome, where it was considered a prized food, according to Britannica.

6. Eggs

Perhaps the most surprising item on Fieri’s list is plain egg dishes. While he’ll use eggs as an ingredient in sauces and baked goods, Fieri avoids them when they’re the star of the plate, he has said.

In a 2024 Food Network clip, Fieri compared scrambled eggs to “liquid chicken.” His aversion reportedly stems from childhood memories of struggling through the chalky yolks of hard-boiled eggs.

US army launches retaliatory strikes on dozens of ISIL targets in Syria | Syria’s War News

Operation Hawkeye has killed and captured more than 50 ISIL fighters after hitting about 100 targets.

United States forces have carried out a series of strikes against ISIL (ISIS) targets in Syria in retaliation for last year’s killing of two of its soldiers and an interpreter.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a statement on Saturday that it attacked more than 30 ISIL targets in Syria between February 3 and 12, hitting the armed group’s infrastructure and weapons storage facilities with “precision munitions”.

CENTCOM said it launched the most recent attacks to “sustain relentless military pressure on remnants from the terrorist network”.

ISIL attacked US and Syrian forces near the historic city of Palmyra in December, killing Sergeant Edgar Brian Torres-Tovar, Sergeant William Nathaniel Howard, and Ayad Mansoor Sakat, identified as an American civilian interpreter.

Launched after the killings, Operation Hawkeye has killed and captured more than 50 fighters and hit about 100 ISIL infrastructure targets over the past two months, said CENTCOM.

The US military on Friday completed the transfer of thousands of ISIL detainees from Syria to Iraq, where they are expected to stand trial.

The prisoners were sent to Iraq at the request of Baghdad in a move welcomed by the US-led coalition that had for years fought against the armed group.

In other developments, the Syrian Ministry of Defence confirmed that government forces took control of the al-Tanf military base in the east of the country, which was run for years by US troops fighting ISIL.

The US-led coalition worked alongside the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the battle that led to ISIL’s territorial defeat in Syria in 2019.

However, Washington has now drawn close to Syria’s new authorities, recently saying that the purpose of its alliance with the SDF was largely over.

The US withdrawal from al-Tanf comes as Damascus seeks to extend its control over all of Syria.

More than 30 killed as gunmen attack communities in northern Nigeria | World News

0

At least 32 people have been killed after gunmen launched simultaneous attacks on three separate communities in northern Nigeria, police have said.

Tunga-Makeri, Konkoso, and Pissa, all located in the Borgu area of Niger state, were targeted in dawn raids on Saturday.

Six people died in the assault on Tunga-Makeri, Niger State police spokesman Wasiu Abiodun said, adding that it was not clear how many people had been abducted.

Mr Abiodun said that Konkoso was also attacked, but gave no other details.

He did say that security teams have been sent to the scene and a rescue operation for those who were abducted was under way.

Abdullahi Adamu, from Konkoso, said 26 people were killed in the attack there, describing how the attackers were “operating freely without the presence of any security”.

Security is deteriorating in the northern part of the West African country, where killings and kidnappings for ransom have been carried out by both Islamic militants and armed gangs.

Earlier this month, 162 people died in an attack in neighboring Kwara State.

In recent months, the US government has accused Nigerian authorities of not protecting Christians, although attacks affect both Christians and Muslims.

The two nations have set up a security partnership which saw Washington carry out strikes on armed groups in Nigerian territories in December, and a US military force being deployed to the country.

Casey Wasserman selling talent agency after Ghislaine Maxwell emails: report

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

High-profile sports and talent agent Casey Wasserman announced to staff he will be selling his talent agency in the aftermath of recently released emails between him and Ghislaine Maxwell, The Associated Press reported Saturday.

Wasserman, the founder and CEO of Wasserman Agency and chairman of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics organizing committee, exchanged flirtatious emails in 2003 with Maxwell, Jeffrey Epstein’s right-hand woman, according to documents included in the most recent release by the Department of Justice.

The memo arrived days after the LA28 board’s executive committee met to discuss Wasserman’s appearance in the Epstein files. The committee said it and an outside legal firm conducted a review of Wasserman’s interactions with Epstein and Maxwell with Wasserman’s full cooperation.

“We found Mr. Wasserman’s relationship with Epstein and Maxwell did not go beyond what has already been publicly documented,” the committee said in a statement, adding that Wasserman “should continue to lead LA28 and deliver a safe and successful games.”

Wasserman has said previously he flew on a humanitarian mission to Africa on Epstein’s private plane at the invitation of the Clinton Foundation in 2002. He said in his memo to staff that his interactions with Maxwell and Epstein were limited and that he regrets the emails.

“It was years before their criminal conduct came to light, and, in its entirety, consisted of one humanitarian trip to Africa and a handful of emails that I deeply regret sending. And I’m heartbroken that my brief contact with them 23 years ago has caused you, this company, and its clients so much hardship over the past days and weeks,” the memo said.

“I never had a personal or business relationship with Jeffrey Epstein,” Wasserman said in a prior statement. “As is well documented, I went on a humanitarian trip as part of a delegation with the Clinton Foundation in 2002 on the Epstein plane. I am terribly sorry for having any association with either of them.”

United States women’s national soccer team legend Abby Wambach announced earlier this week she was leaving the agency. Chappell Roan also left the agency.

In the email exchanges, Wasserman told Maxwell, “I think of you all the time. So, what do I have to do to see you in a tight leather outfit?” Another exchange showed Maxwell asking Wasserman whether it would be foggy enough during an upcoming visit “so that you can float naked down the beach and no one can see you unless they are close up?” Wasserman responded, “or something like that.”

Brooks Nader is opening up about why she decided to get her fillers dissolved.

In a recent interview with US Weekly, the 29-year-old model shared why she felt she had to get facial fillers in the first place and the biggest difference she’s felt since getting them dissolved.

“I honestly felt really good about it, because I feel like I get a lot of the comments that are like, ‘You look 40, you look 40, you look 40,’” Nader explained. “I’m like, ‘What? I don’t want to be 40.'”

Since getting her filler removed, Nader says, “Everyone’s like, ‘Finally, you actually look like 28,’” and that even her parents told her that her face doesn’t look “blown up” anymore.

“I felt like it was what everyone was doing,” Nader added. “I was thrown into this world of Hollywood and chasing perfection. And I thought that getting filler was the answer.”

After getting them removed, Nader explained she is “loving my smile and how I’m looking” but hasn’t ruled out trying them out again when she gets older.

Nader recently posted a series of steamy photos from her vacation in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, captioning the post, “Old lips, new clothes, same me.”

Valentine’s Day gift for Winter Olympics athletes – more condoms | World News

0

Winter Olympics athletes are getting a Valentine’s Day gift from organisers – a promise of a renewed supply of free condoms.

This apparently followed “higher-than-anticipated demand”.

Providing condoms for athletes has been a gift from organisers – and a constant fascination to the world – for decades.

“We can confirm that condom supplies in the Olympic villages were temporarily depleted due to higher-than-anticipated demand,” the Italian organising committee said in a statement on Saturday.

“Additional supplies are being delivered and will be distributed across all villages between today and Monday.”

Some 300,000 condoms were provided for more than 10,500 athletes at the 2024 Paris Summer Games, but the stock was originally much lower for these games.

“I think 10,000 have been used, 2,800 athletes – you can go figure, as they say,” International Olympic Committee spokesman Mark Adams said Saturday.

Condoms are traditionally popular for Olympic athletes to take home as “a kind of gift” to friends, Alpine skier Mialitiana Clerc said on Saturday.

“I’m not so shocked. I saw it in Beijing already,” said Ms Clerc, who also competed for Madagascar four years ago at the Winter Games in China.

“There were some boxes with a lot of condoms at the entrance of every building where we were staying at the village.”

SEN McCORMICK: Rubio’s Munich speech is a vital wake-up call for the West

0

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Europe stands at a crossroads. To save itself and our cherished Transatlantic alliance, it must not only change policy but also recommit itself to the common inheritance of Western Civilization.

That was the message Secretary of State Marco Rubio delivered this weekend at the Munich Security Conference, in a defining foreign policy speech of our time. At an affair best-known for platitudes and navel-gazing, he diagnosed the roots of Europe’s decline and provided a clear vision for how America and its European allies can unite, again, to preserve the most important alliance in human history. It could not have come at a better time.

Formed in the shadow of the Iron Curtain, the NATO alliance has underpinned American, European, and even global security for decades. It held back the march of Communism. It brought peace to a continent reeling from centuries of brutal warfare. It reunified Europe.

NATO CHIEF PRAISES TRUMP AT DAVOS, SAYS HE FORCED EUROPE TO ‘STEP UP’ ON DEFENSE

It is an alliance bonded by sacrifice and history. Like generations of American soldiers before and since, I fought alongside our NATO allies in the 82nd Airborne, crossing into Iraq with a French unit at the outset of the First Gulf War. And when America was attacked on 9/11, our NATO allies answered our call. They spilled blood in the mountains of Afghanistan and streets of Iraq alongside our young men and women in uniform.

That bond remains, but, Secretary Rubio warned, it has grown weaker as our allies have pursued policies of managed decline. They have crippled their productive capacity with so-called “green energy” policies, allowed deindustrialization to neuter their defense capabilities, and neglected the very fabric of their own societies through mass, uncontrolled immigration. They have failed to live up to their end of the bargain in the alliance, and the marriage between the United States and Europe now needs fixing.

However, the roots of decline run deeper than policy choices, to the very soul of Western society. Secretary Rubio sees this truth, and that’s why all Americans should hear his speech.

The remarks remind us what leaders in the United States and throughout Europe are tasked with defending: a sacred inheritance from the forebearers of Western Civilization — the civilization that gave us Beethoven, established the rule of law, built the Sistine Chapel, sustained a rich philosophical tradition, and took us to the moon — but which now faces grave and existential threats.

RUBIO STEPS INTO MUNICH SPOTLIGHT AS TRUMP LEANS ON HIM TO CARRY VANCE’S POPULIST MESSAGE ABROAD

It is this shared bond of history and cultural inheritance — alongside the cold realities of geopolitics — that holds our nations together. Not vague abstractions, impotent international organizations, or even transatlantic trade.

Our European allies have forgotten this fact. Too often, they have traded national interest and hard power for vague and moralistic appeals to international institutions and a bloated welfare state. The Trump administration, as articulated in Secretary Rubio’s speech, has rejected that failed status quo and championed an honest, hard-nosed view of foreign policy designed to promote our national interests.

Under President Donald Trump, this administration put that policy to action. It has reasserted American sovereignty and our nation’s exceptional role as a leader on the world stage. American leadership, not the United Nations or any other international body, has brought peace to the Middle East, toppled Iran’s nuclear program, and ended the reign of a narco-terrorist dictator.

This isn’t a divorce from Europe, retreat from the world stage, or an abdication of America’s role as a world leader. Nor is it the misguided doctrine of internationalists who were eager to spend blood and treasure to export ideology to far-off lands. It’s a sober understanding of the realities of power and what it takes to secure the United States and Europe as we face a changing world together.

Secretary Rubio’s speech marks a defining moment for the U.S.-led global order. Just as crucially, it serves as a powerful call for the champions of the West to defend a shared civilization with a beautiful past — and a future that must be met by an alliance built on this deep and enduring bond.

I trust many in Europe will heed the call. On a recent visit to Norway, Finland, Estonia and Denmark with several of my U.S. Senate colleagues, we met with leaders laser-focused on rebuilding their hard power, deterring the Russian bear on their borders, and restoring the heart and soul of the NATO alliance. Many of those I spoke to understood what is at stake. They had learned the hard lessons of the War in Ukraine and Europe’s inept response.

I hope those voices will trumpet Secretary Rubio and be “unapologetic in our heritage and proud of this common inheritance.”

Real Madrid thrash Real Sociedad 4-1 to move top of La Liga | Football News

Vinicius Jr strikes twice from the penalty spot as Madrid move provisionally above Barcelona, who play Girona on Monday.

Vinicius Junior scored two penalties as Real Madrid moved top of La Liga with a 4-1 win over Real Sociedad, despite missing superstar Kylian Mbappe.

Mbappe watched from the substitutes’ bench on Saturday after missing some team training sessions during the week with discomfort in his left knee.

Madrid coach Alvaro Arbeloa said Friday he was able to play, but evidently he did not want to rush his star goal-scorer.

Mbappe and Jude Bellingham, out with a hamstring injury, watched as Madrid produced an assured team performance to end the visitors’ 11-game unbeaten run across all competitions and move two points clear of Barcelona before the defending champions visit Girona on Monday.

Perhaps Tuesday’s team dinner at a fancy restaurant paid for by Mbappe and Vinicius helped focus the players before facing Benfica in the Champions League playoffs next week.

Gonzalo Garcia opened the scoring with a slight touch to Trent Alexander-Arnold’s cross in the fifth minute. However, it was to be a largely frustrating game for the young attacker, who failed to make more of other good opportunities.

Dean Huijsen conceded a penalty for bringing down Yangel Herrera, and Mikel Oyarzabal duly equalised from the spot with a hard high centrally placed shot in the 21st.

Referee Francisco Jose Hernandez Maeso awarded another penalty at the other end four minutes later when Jon Aramburu caught Vinicius’ ankle, bringing him down. The Brazilian dusted himself off to score from the spot in the 25th minute.

Madrid captain Fede Valverde gratefully scored the third in the 31st after being left too much space at the edge of the penalty box. It was Valverde’s first goal of the season.

Garcia should have scored again before the break when Valverde set him up for what looked like a simple tap in, but Vinicius made it 4-1 with his second spot kick after the break, awarded after Aramburu was again penalised for bringing him down.

Dani Carvajal made his long-awaited return around the hour mark when he replaced Alexander-Arnold for his first league appearance since Madrid’s 2-1 loss to Barcelona in October.

Vinicius thought he had scored a hat-trick when he headed in a free kick in the 90th minute, only for it to be ruled out for offside.

Elsewhere in La Liga on Saturday, Borja Iglesias scored in stoppage time, after having another seemingly good goal ruled out through VAR, to salvage a 2-2 draw for Celta Vigo at Espanyol.

A rueful Iglesias shook his head and smiled after having a 77th-minute goal disallowed when a long check determined there had been an offside infringement.

His frustrations grew when Ramon Terrats pulled the ball back for fellow substitute Tyrhys Dolan to score what he thought was the winner for Espanyol in the 86th minute.

But Iglesias equalised in the third minute of stoppage time when Pablo Duran set him up with his heel after a good run from Sergio Carreira.

Espanyol remained sixth and Celta a point behind in seventh.

Also Saturday, Getafe held on to upset visiting Villarreal 2-1, and 10-man Sevilla drew with Alaves 1-1 in a duel between two strugglers.

Dark chocolate, red wine may stimulate brain through taste, study finds

0

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

The dry, puckering sensation you get from dark chocolate, red wine, tea or berries could actually be activating your brain in a way similar to exercise, according to a new study.

New research from Japan suggests that flavanols — plant compounds found in these foods — may stimulate the brain not by being absorbed into the bloodstream, but by triggering a sensory response tied to their bitter taste.

“The key finding of this experiment is that it first demonstrated how flavanol intake stimulation — likely the bitter taste — is transmitted to the central nervous system, triggering a stress response reaction that enhances short-term memory and produces beneficial effects on the circulatory system,” professor Naomi Osakabe of Shibaura Institute of Technology in Japan told Fox News Digital.

EXERCISE AFFECTS THE HEART IN A HIDDEN, POWERFUL WAY BY REWIRING NERVES, STUDY FINDS

“It was surprising that flavanol’s brain activity-enhancing effect occurred at a very low dose,” she added.

Elegant close-up of a rich chocolate dessert garnished with berries and mint, served with red wine in upscale restaurant.

In experiments on mice, a single dose of flavanols increased spontaneous activity and improved performance on memory tests, according to the study, published in Current Research in Food Science.

Researchers also observed rapid activation of brain regions involved in attention, arousal and stress regulation.

SITTING ALL DAY? NEW STUDY SAYS CERTAIN FOODS MAY PROTECT YOUR HEART FROM DAMAGE

Because very little of the flavanols people consume actually enter the bloodstream, researchers believe they may instead influence the brain and heart by stimulating sensory nerves.

The researchers describe the concept as part of an emerging field known as sensory nutrition, the idea that the taste and physical sensations of food may directly regulate biological functions. This could eventually lead to new types of foods that combine appealing taste and beneficial physiological effects.

Berries are a natural source of flavanols, plant compounds being studied for potential cognitive and cardiovascular benefits. (iStock)

The response resembles what happens during mild exercise, which is a temporary activation of the sympathetic nervous system sometimes described as a fight-or-flight response. This type of short-term stress can sharpen focus and alertness.

“While it is clear that healthy foods contribute to maintaining and enhancing homeostasis, the mechanisms remain largely unclear,” Osakabe said. “Notably, this study identified the potential for the taste of food components to regulate biological functions.”

The study does have limitations, as the research was conducted on animals and foods are complex mixtures of many compounds that may interact with one another.

“I do not believe people, including most doctors, are aware that a taste of a specific molecule or compound can rapidly trigger major changes in the brain,” Dr. Johnson Moon, a neurologist at Providence St. Jude Medical Center in California, previously told Fox News Digital regarding sensory nutrition.

More data is needed before foods like dark chocolate can be recommended, especially because calories, sugar and fat could outweigh the benefits, Moon said.

Still, Osakabe noted that previous long-term human studies on cocoa flavanols have suggested cardiovascular and cognitive benefits. For now, she recommends a balanced, plant-forward diet.
