Guthrie family are not suspects in kidnapping, sheriff says | US News

The family of Nancy Guthrie are not suspects in her kidnapping, the sheriff has confirmed.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said her family, including “all siblings and spouses”, had been cooperative and gracious as authorities investigated the kidnapping.

Mr Nanos said: “To suggest otherwise is not only wrong, it is cruel. The Guthrie family are victims plain and simple.”

It comes as the case involving the mother of Today show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie entered its third week.

On Sunday, investigators said they had obtained a DNA sample from a glove found near the Arizona home of Nancy, 84, which appears to match the pair worn by a masked prowler seen in doorbell camera footage before she was abducted.

Nancy was last seen on 31 January when her family dropped her off at her home near Tucson following dinner with them.

Relatives reported her missing the following day, authorities said.

Mr Nanos added that Nancy, who has a pacemaker, was extremely limited in her physical mobility and could not have left her home unassisted, leading investigators to believe she had been taken against her will early on.

Since her disappearance, at least two purported ransom notes have surfaced.

Both were initially delivered to media outlets, but there has been no known direct contact between Ms Guthrie’s presumed captors and her family, or with authorities.

Traces of blood on her front porch were later confirmed by DNA tests to have come from Ms Guthrie, officials said last week.

She is described by law enforcement and family members as being in frail health and in need of daily medication to survive.

Savannah, 54, is co-anchor of the popular NBC show and has shared several video messages along with her brother, Camron Guthrie and sister, Annie Guthrie.

Together, they have been pleading for their mother’s return and are appealing for information from the public.

Mr Nanos said there had been no proof of life since the abduction but added “there’s not been any proof of death either”.

He added that his working assumption is that she remains alive.

Guthrie Instagram messaging aimed at amateur criminal, former FBI agent says

0

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

A former FBI agent who worked in behavioral analysis told Fox News Digital that Savannah Guthrie’s latest Instagram video was directed towards a suspect who could be an amateur criminal feeling the heat of a now massive investigation.

Guthrie began the video by saying that after two weeks of her mother, Nancy Guthrie, 84, being missing, she and the rest of the Guthrie family are not giving up. She then made a plea

“It’s never too late. You are not lost or alone, and it is never too late to do the right thing,” she said in the video. “And we are here. We believe in the essential goodness of every human being. And it’s never too late.”

A $10 WALMART GUN HOLSTER COULD HELP IDENTIFY SUSPECT IN NANCY GUTHRIE CASE

Jonny Grusing worked in the FBI’s Denver Division for 25 years, investigating violent crimes, missing persons, serial killers and more. He coordinated the behavior analysis unit for the division for 13 of those years.

He said the FBI is likely behind Guthrie’s messaging. Since Nancy went messing, four videos have been posted to her Instagram. She delivered messages in three of them, the first directed towards a suspect with what Grusing described as an attempt to humanize her mom, the second a plea to bystanders to come forward with information, and Sunday night’s video.

Grusing does not believe the suspect in Nancy’s case is a sophisticated criminal, and believes that Savannah’s Sunday message was coached by FBI profilers with that in mind to try to get the suspect to turn himself in.

“I think he got in way over his head with whatever happened with Nancy, and they’re hoping that he is panicking enough since his family and friends haven’t turned him in,” said Grusing. “They’re appealing to him directly, like, ‘look, guy, this is not going away, you just need to summon up the courage in any humanity you have left and do it.”

Drawing on his decades of experience, Grusing noted the signs of the suspect’s amateurishness. The suspect, who was already masked, kept turning his head away from the doorbell camera, and even attempted to obscure the camera’s view with brush pulled from a front garden.

“If you look at him and the awkwardness of this guy walking up there, this guy is not a professional,” Jonny Grusing said. “So I don’t think whatever happened in the house is what he intended to happen. What I would say is that he didn’t plan for this sort of news coverage, for this sort of intense searching, for the FBI to come in and for this to be going on two weeks later.”

He also told Fox News Digital that no matter how long the investigation takes, the FBI and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department are committed to seeing through, and that it’s only a matter of time before the suspect is taken into custody.

“He’s going to be arrested. At one point, he’s going to get turned in, something’s going to break. So the SWAT team is going to come through his door, and I think that’s what they’re saying. Even if it’s not [an appeal to] his humanity, he needs to get the courage to turn himself in and be proactive with this.”

‘Daunting but doable’: Europe urged to prepare for 3C of global heating | Climate crisis

0

Keeping Europe safe from extreme weather “is not rocket science”, a top researcher has said, as the EU’s climate advisory board urges countries to prepare for a catastrophic 3C of global heating.

Maarten van Aalst, a member of the European Scientific Advisory Board on Climate Change (ESABCC), said the continent was already “paying a price” for its lack of preparation but that adapting to a hotter future was in part “common sense and low-hanging fruit”.

“It is a daunting task, but at the same time quite a doable task. It’s not rocket science,” said van Aalst, who used to lead the climate centre at the International Red Cross and Red Crescent and is now the director general of the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI).

The ESABCC describes current efforts to adapt to rising temperatures as “insufficient, largely incremental [and] often coming too late” in a new report that advises officials to prepare for a world 2.8-3.3C hotter than preindustrial levels by 2100.

Such a dramatic rise in temperatures – the prospect of which has left some leading climate scientists feeling hopeless – would be double the level of global heating that world leaders promised to aim for when they signed the Paris agreement in 2015. The ESABCC recommended officials stress-test even hotter scenarios.

Weather extremes in Europe in recent years have at times surprised climate scientists with their strength and adaptation experts with their lethality as rising temperatures have warped the climate.

Heavy rains supercharged by climate breakdown killed 134 people in Germany’s Ahr valley in 2021 and 229 people in the Valencia region of Spain in 2024. Across the continent, summer heat kills many tens of thousands of people each year, with studies attributing between half and two-thirds of the death toll to the rise in temperatures caused by fossil fuel pollution. Last year’s wildfires, meanwhile, torched more of Europe than scientists have ever recorded.

Last week, Portugal was urged to draw up climate adaptation plans as the country was hit by an unprecedented series of storms that killed at least 16 people and caused an estimated €775m (£675m) of damage.

Van Aalst said: “Twenty years ago, we’d have said those extremes are indeed going to be a problem, but primarily in poorer countries that cannot cope. What we’re now noticing is that Europe itself is vulnerable, especially for conditions it has not faced in the past.

“It turns out our preparedness is not so great. And we have real work to do to upgrade our early warning systems.”

The ESABCC report recommends that the EU mandate climate risk assessments, embed climate resilience into all policies and channel more money – including from private sources – into protective measures. It does not estimate the scale of investments needed to keep Europe safe.

Van Aalst, who was an author of the last Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report, said the most important message was to avoid a future in which the world heats to such an extreme degree.

“The IPCC is clear this is a very problematic future with rapidly rising risks,” he said. “And for a number of risks, we’ll reach the limits of adaptation.”

Nissanka created a series of records by scoring a stormy century against Australia

Last Updated:

Pathum Nissanka Hundred vs Australia: Pathum Nissanka scored a century in just 52 balls against Australia. Nissanka has become the first batsman to score a century against Australia in the history of T20 World Cup. No one had been able to accomplish this feat before. Apart from this, Nissanka made many big records. Left behind legends like Mahela Jayawardene and Sanath Jayasuriya. Let us know about his record.

Nissanka scored a century in 52 balls.

New Delhi. Pathum Nissanka scored a century against Australia in just 52 balls. Nissanka played an unbeaten inning of 100 runs in 52 balls. This is the first century of the current T20 World Cup. This century of Nissanka gave Sri Lanka a place in the Super-8 with a big win by eight wickets and has brought Australia to the verge of being out of the T20 World Cup. While chasing the target of 182 runs, Nissanka attacked the Kangaroos and scored a stormy century. Nissanka hit fours and sixes all around the ground at Pallekele International Stadium and hit 10 fours and 5 sixes in the innings. He batted at a strike rate of 192. With this inning, Nissanka also made many big records. Let us know.

Nissanka scored the first century of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. This is also the first century scored against Australia in the T20 World Cup. Earlier, the highest score against Australia was made by Omar Akmal in Mirpur in 2014. Akmal had played an inning of 94 runs. Nissanka’s unbeaten 100 runs put him ahead of Mahela Jayawardene’s 100 runs scored against Zimbabwe in 2010. Now this is the highest individual score by a Sri Lankan batsman in the T20 World Cup.

Nissanka scored a century in 52 balls.

This century is also the joint second fastest century for Sri Lanka in T20 International. Nissanka had done this feat earlier also, when he scored a century in 52 balls against India last year. However, the record for the fastest T20I century for Sri Lanka is in the name of Kusal Perera, who completed his century in just 44 balls against New Zealand in 2025. In this innings, Nissanka scored 70 runs with fours and sixes. With this, he broke the record of Sanath Jayasuriya and went ahead of him in scoring the most runs from the boundary in an innings of the T20 World Cup for Sri Lanka. Jayasuriya had scored 68 runs.

What did you say after scoring the record century?
After scoring a brilliant unbeaten century to take Sri Lanka to the Super 8 stage, ‘Player of the Match’ Pathum Nissanka expressed his happiness at being able to play his natural game on a good batting pitch and said he was very happy to lead his team to victory. Talking about the run chase, Nissanka said, ‘Today the wicket was very good, which gave me a chance to play my natural game. I am very happy to score a century and lead my team to victory. We needed a good power-play. There was a very good partnership between me and Kusal Mendis in the middle, and from there we just had to continue our innings and help our team win.

Difficult path for Sri Lanka, Australia in Super-8
Sri Lanka had defeated Ireland by 20 runs in its first match. After this Oman was crushed by 105 runs. With three consecutive wins, the Sri Lankan team is at the top of the points table of Group B with a net run rate of +2.462. On the other hand, Australia is at second position in the points table after losing 2 out of 3 matches. Australia’s net run rate is +0.414. After the defeat by Sri Lanka, Australia’s hopes of reaching the Super-8 are hanging in the balance. Now it will have to win against Oman by a big margin in its last match and will also have to depend on other results for a better net run rate. If Zimbabwe defeats Ireland, Australia’s journey will end in the group stage itself.

Former NRL star Matt Utai shot outside home in western Sydney | Australia news

0

Former NRL star Matt Utai is in hospital fighting for his life after being shot multiple times in a public shooting.

The 2004 premiership-winning Canterbury winger was shot outside a home in Greenacre, in western Sydney, at around 6am on Tuesday.

Police were told a 44-year-old man was shot on the lawn in front of the home by people inside an SUV, before the vehicle fled.

The SUV was then found after being set on fire in Wiley Park, less than a 10-minute drive from where the shooting took place.

NSW police superintendent Rodney Hart said the victim of the attack suffered a gunshot wound to his lower leg and to the upper shoulder, chest area.

He was taken to hospital in a serious condition and was undergoing surgery on Tuesday morning.

“We believe at this point in time that it is a targeted attack,” Hart said. “There is no ongoing threat to the community.”

He said police were concerned about the “brazen ambush” of the victim, who had been heading to his car to go to work, and police would “do everything that they can to work out exactly why this has happened and who is involved”.

Police have linked the incidents at the home and where the car was found on fire.

Fire authorities extinguished the blaze and the SUV was seized for forensic examination.

Utai starred in the 2004 NRL grand final, scoring two tries as his Bulldogs knocked off the Sydney Roosters 16-13.

The New Zealand and Samoa international played 167 NRL games, joining the Wests Tigers in 2011 and spending three seasons there.

The 2002 Dally M Rookie of the Year finished his NRL career with 85 tries.

Delhi: Parking crisis to end at Nehru Place, six-storey multi-level parking inaugurated by LG and Cm – Parking Crisis To End At Nehru Place Six-storey Multi-level Parking Inaugurated By LG And Cm In Delhi

0

The long standing problem of parking in Nehru Place, the main business center of South Delhi, has got a big relief. On Monday, the six-storey state-of-the-art multilevel car parking was inaugurated by Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. With its commencement, the problem of disorganized parking and jam in the market area is expected to reduce.

Nehru Place is counted among the largest IT and electronics markets in the country, thousands of people reach here every day for shopping and business purposes. Due to limited roadside parking and unauthorized parked vehicles, there is often severe traffic jam. The new multilevel parking is being considered an important step towards reducing this pressure. This six-storey parking can accommodate 650 four-wheelers and 352 two-wheelers at a time. On the basis of rotation system, around 2,000 vehicles will get parking facility here every day. This will reduce illegal parking on the roads of the market area and traffic will remain more orderly.

Speaking on the occasion, Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena said that it is very satisfying to hand over this automated multilevel car parking complex at Nehru Place. This fulfills a long standing public need and will significantly reduce parking congestion and traffic caused by unauthorized parking in the area. Nehru Place was developed by DDA as part of the District Center Redevelopment Plan. He urged people to use this modern facility.

And support our collective vision of a green and smart Delhi. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that lack of parking in the busy markets of the capital has been a big challenge. The government is identifying areas where multilevel parking or automated parking structures can be developed in a phased manner. He said that such facilities will be developed in future also by using the available government land.

French police launch murder inquiry after far-right activist’s death in Lyon | France

0

French police have launched a murder inquiry after a far-right activist died in hospital having been beaten up in an attack that has fuelled political tensions in France.

Quentin Deranque, a 23-year-old mathematics student, died from a severe brain injury at the weekend. The Lyon prosecutor, Thierry Dran, said Deranque was assaulted by at least six masked individuals. Police were working to identify suspects and no arrests had been made, Dran said.

Deranque was attacked on Thursday on the sidelines of a protest against a university conference attended by Rima Hassan, a European member of parliament for Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s leftwing party, La France Insoumise (LFI).

The anti-immigration Nemesis collective, which is close to the far right, was protesting against the conference. Nemesis said at the weekend that Deranque had been present to protect its members as security and was assaulted by anti-fascist activists.

Deranque’s family lawyer said in a statement to French media that the student appeared to have been ambushed by “organised and trained individuals, vastly superior in number and armed, some with their faces masked”. The lawyer told Le Monde that Deranque was not part of security for any organisation, had no criminal record and defended his political convictions “in a non-violent way”.

The death has inflamed political divisions in France ahead of municipal elections and next year’s presidential race. The LFI party, described by Mélenchon as “radical left”, was officially labelled as “far left” by the French interior ministry this month before the local elections in March. The LFI, as well as the Socialist party leader, Olivier Faure, protested against this label.

On Monday, the government spokesperson Maud Bregeon accused the LFI of having “encouraged a climate of violence for years”. She told the broadcaster BFMTV that there was “therefore – in light of the political climate and the climate of violence – a moral responsibility on the part of LFI” for the attack on Thursday.

A video broadcast by TF1 of the alleged attack on Thursday showed a group of people hitting three others lying on the ground, two of whom managed to escape while one lay motionless. A witness told Agence France-Presse: “People were hitting each other with iron bars.”

Demonstrations called by the far right in memory of Deranque have taken place in the southern city of Montpellier and in Paris, where protesters unfurled a banner reading “antifa murderers, justice for Quentin”.

The LFI lawmaker Éric Coquerel, speaking to the public broadcaster Franceinfo, condemned “all political violence” and said the activists responsible for Hassan’s security “were in no way involved in what happened”.

The French president, Emmanuel Macron, wrote on social media over the weekend: “It is essential that the perpetrators of this ignominy be prosecuted, brought to justice and convicted. Hatred that kills has no place among us. I call for calm, restraint and respect.”

Family seating mixup on Southwest Airlines sparks heated debate online

0

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

A family seating mix-up on a recent flight has sparked online debate over whether airlines should guarantee that parents and young children sit together or not.

The dispute began after a passenger shared on X that his wife and two young children were automatically assigned seats in separate rows on a Southwest Airlines flight.

The family did not pay for seat selection, the post noted. Rather, the airline’s system assigned seats individually.

FLIGHT PASSENGER STANDS FIRM AGAINST ENTITLED SEAT SWAPPER’S DEMANDS: ‘I’M NOT MOVING’

The passenger said his 2-year-old child was placed in a different row from both his mother and sibling, despite indicating during booking that the couple was traveling with children.

The post drew attention, with many commenters criticizing the father for declining to purchase seat selection.

“If you’re so cheap that you refuse to not pay for seat selection, then why didn’t you put the 2-year-old as a lap child?” one user wrote.

“Next time, buy the seats together. It’s that easy,” another added.

Some users also pointed out that separating families on planes can place pressure on other passengers to switch seats to accommodate others.

“I love kids, but I’d hate to be that passenger who has to move for your family to sit together,” a commenter said.

The post sparked criticism of the father (not pictured) for not paying to select seats — with some saying the perplexing situation could have been avoided. (iStock)

Others, however, argued that airlines should automatically seat young children next to a parent or guardian, particularly when a child’s age is provided during booking.

“All minors should be assigned next to an adult,” one user wrote.

Fox News Digital reached out to Southwest Airlines for comment about the incident.

The situation comes amid changes at Southwest Airlines, which began transitioning to an assigned seating model in January.

Federal regulations do not currently require airlines to guarantee adjacent seating.

The carrier had long been known for its open seating policy, which allowed passengers to choose any available seat upon boarding.

The U.S. Department of Transportation encourages airlines to seat young children next to a parent or accompanying adult at no additional charge, according to the agency’s website.

However, federal regulations do not currently require airlines to guarantee adjacent seating.

The DOT advises airlines to place young children beside a parent or guardian at no extra cost, though there is no federal rule requiring carriers to ensure seats are together. (iStock)

The department maintains an online dashboard that outlines which carriers commit to seating children age 13 and under next to an accompanying adult without an added fee.

The dashboard shows that Southwest Airlines does not commit to providing fee-free guaranteed adjacent seating.
