Team USA women’s hockey captain Hilary Knight’s massive third-period goal that sent the gold medal game against Canada to overtime had historic implications on Thursday night in Milan.

Knight became the greatest women’s hockey scorer in Olympic history when she tipped home Julia Edwards’ shot at the blue line with just 2:04 left on the clock, and an empty net for the U.S., to tie the gold-medal game at one goal apiece.

Finally, Team USA was able to snap the shutout against Canada, and it ultimately worked in their favor.

In overtime, Megan Keller dangled around a Team Canada defender and tossed a backhand toward net that got through Ann-Renée Desbiens’ right arm and trickled into the net for the gold medal victory.

Knight’s goal broke the U.S. women’s record for career goals while representing the Stars and Stripes, which was previously held by Natalie Darwitz and Katie King. She now has 15 for her career.

Also, Knight broke the record for most career Olympic points in Team USA women’s hockey history, marking her 33rd point of her career. Knight breaks the record now previously held by Jenny Potter, who had 11 goals and 21 assists in her career.

This only adds to the illustrious career Knight has had for Team USA, as this victory in Milan marked her second Olympic gold medal and fifth overall. And yes, that is yet another Olympic record.

Knight, 36, also marked the third Olympic hockey player, either man or woman, to have five medals in a career.

There’s a reason why Knight wears the “C” on her chest, having tallied 12 gold medals over her career between the Olympic and World Championships. She has compiled 81 goals and 70 assists throughout her long career.

Back home, Knight’s resume in the PWHL includes tying for the league lead in points during the 2024-25 campaign with 29 while playing for the Boston Fleet. And in the Seattle Torrent’s first-ever season this year, she is tied for sixth in the league with seven assists thus far.

Iran deal prospects will be clear within 10 days, Trump says as military buildup grows | US foreign policy

0

Donald Trump has said it will be clear within “probably 10 days” whether he can reach a nuclear deal with Iran, as the US military buildup in the Middle East intensifies with the impending arrival of a second carrier strike group.

The US president, speaking at the inaugural meeting of his Board of Peace in Washington DC, insisted Iran could not have a nuclear weapon and emphasised that “bad things will happen” if the country continued “to threaten regional stability”.

Giving a possible timeline, Trump said: “Maybe we’re going to make a deal, but you’re going to be finding out over the next probably 10 days,” as the US waits for Iran to respond after talks between the two on Tuesday.

The White House envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner met Iranian officials in Geneva to discuss Iran’s nuclear enrichment programme, set back but not eliminated after US and Israeli bombing during the 12-day war last June.

After the diplomatic meeting, Iran promised to respond within two weeks to US demands that it abandon enrichment altogether in return for sanctions relief – roughly consistent with Trump’s mooted timeline.

However, last summer Trump gave himself two weeks to decide whether he would bomb Iran’s underground nuclear enrichment facility at Fordow, only to strike it with B-2 stealth bombers within a few days.

Experts say there are already sufficient US military assets in the Middle East to begin an aerial bombing campaign against Iran, potentially in conjunction with Israel, though it is less clear what this would achieve.

The USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier and other warships in a strike group have been in the Arabian Sea for nearly a month, with nine squadrons of aircraft including F-35 Lightning IIs and F/A-18 Super Hornets.

A second carrier strike group, led by the USS Gerald R Ford, was last confirmed to be in the Atlantic west of Morocco on Tuesday. It is expected to head through the strait of Gibraltar and towards the eastern Mediterranean, a voyage of several days.

This handout image taken by the European Space Agency (ESA) on February 15, 2026 shows the US Navy’s USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) aircraft carrier cruising in the Arabian Sea about 700 kilometres off the coast of Iran. Photograph: EUROPEAN SPACE AGENCY/AFP/Getty Images

The Ford, the world’s largest aircraft carrier, sailed from the Caribbean Sea, where last month the warship was involved in the seizure of Venezuela’s Nicolás Maduro from a fortified compound in a night raid.

Together, the carrier strike groups could generate “several hundred strike sorties a day for a few weeks, an intensity greater than during the 12-days war” said Matthew Savill, the director of military sciences at the Royal United Services Institute.

Even without the Ford, planes flying from the Lincoln could fly 125 or more bombing missions a day, giving the US the means to start attacking government and military sites in Iran in an aerial campaign if Trump chooses to attack.

Aviation experts have tracked a large movement of military planes to the Middle East as the US ramps up pressure on Iran. Six E-3 Sentry Awacs, critical for real-time command and control operations, are now deployed at Prince Sultan airbase in Saudi Arabia, having been moved from the US and Japan.

“The question, however, is: what is all this buildup for?” Savill said. The sizeable deployment of air and sea assets suggests the US military is giving Trump the option of launching a wide-ranging bombing campaign, beyond an effort that might focus on Iran’s supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, and other senior figures.

US assets in the Middle East map

Last month, Trump promised people protesting against the Iranian regime that “help is on its way”, but at that time the US military presence was limited. Now that warships and fighter jets are available, and the protests have been bloodily suppressed, the US leader has switched to focus on Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

Options include a further bombing campaign against the already degraded weapons programme. That could include targeting the Pickaxe Mountain complex near Natanz and Taleghan 2 at Parchin, two nuclear sites not targeted in the 12-day war.

In November, experts from the Institute for Science and International Security concluded that Iran “does not appear able to enrich uranium in any significant manner or make gas centrifuges in significant numbers” after the war.

However, the location and status of 440kg of 60% enriched uranium that was held by Iran remained uncertain. Theoretically Iran has enough uranium to make 10 nuclear weapons if it could be further enriched above 90% and weaponised.

Israel has been pressing for the US to focus on Iran’s ballistic missile programme, considered to be the country’s most potent military threat. Iran is estimated to have about 2,000 ballistic missiles in its stock with up to 25 launch bases around the country, six of which were not attacked by Israel in June.

Iran does not possess capable air defences, which were easily suppressed by the Israeli military in the short summer war, meaning its best available form of defence would be to counterattack. On Tuesday Khamenei threatened to send US warships “to the bottom of the sea”.

A volley of ballistic missiles is difficult to shoot down entirely even with sophisticated air defence systems of the types used by the US and Israel and there were signs that Iran had improved its hit rate in the summer conflict.

On Thursday evening, Iran’s permanent mission to the United Nations told secretary general António Guterres that Tehran would consider bases, facilities and assets of the “hostile force” in the region as legitimate targets if it faced military aggression.

At the start of the 12-day war, only 8% of Iranian missiles were getting through, but on 22 June, two days before its end, 10 out of 27 missiles hit Israel, according to the Jewish Institute for National Security of America.

The US has been increasing its air defence systems in the region in case Iran were to respond by striking against Israel, other allies in the Middle East or its own regional bases.

Satellite imagery shows a Patriot air defence system has been placed at Al-Udeid airbase in Qatar, the regional headquarters of the US Central Command. US destroyers near Cyprus can target ballistic missiles heading towards Israel.

The UK has already indicated to the US it will not allow its airbases such as RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire or Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean to be used for runs by B-2 bombers – but it and other western nations may get drawn in to defend allies in the Middle East.

Last month the RAF’s 12 Squadron redeployed to Qatar, its Typhoon jets ready to operate in self-defence if the Gulf country is attacked.

Biden clemency frees repeat offender described as ‘danger to community’

0

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

A repeat offender once described by federal prosecutors as a “danger to the community” was set to be released Thursday after receiving a sentence commutation signed with an autopen in the final days of former President Joe Biden’s administration.

Oscar Freemond Fowler III had been serving a 12-year, six-month federal sentence after pleading guilty in 2024 to being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession with intent to distribute cocaine. Federal prosecutors urged the court to impose at least 150 months in prison, citing his lengthy criminal history and arguing he posed an ongoing threat to the public.

Fowler was included in a Jan. 17, 2025, executive grant of clemency commuting the sentences of more than 2,500 inmates under the Biden administration. The warrant, issued in Washington and bearing Biden’s signature, was one of three clemency documents critics say were executed using an autopen.

While the Biden administration said the commutations were relief for non-violent drug offenders, the Oversight Project, a conservative investigative group for the Heritage Foundation, argues that Fowler’s history of violence makes him a clear danger to the public.

TRUMP DOUBLES DOWN ON VOIDING BIDEN AUTOPEN ACTIONS, INCLUDING PARDONS AND COMMUTATIONS

The Oversight Project issued a warning to Florida officials this week about Fowler’s release.

“He is a dangerous criminal who’s supposed to be in jail for a very long time,” The Oversight Project President Mike Howell told Fox News Digital. “This is the exact person that should be in federal custody.”

The most serious allegations in Fowler’s past involve the death of Naykee Bostic in St. Petersburg, who was found with 25 gunshot wounds shortly after Fowler had been released from a previous federal stint in 2013. While Fowler was acquitted of the murder in 2017 after two prior mistrials, the Oversight Project points to a 2024 sentencing memorandum stating that Fowler made a video-recorded admission to the killing and expressed a willingness to use violence again.

Former President Joe Biden spoke to the paper’s reporters in a ten-minute phone call regarding the growing questions from President Donald Trump and GOP lawmakers about the legality of Biden’s pardons in the final days of his presidency, which were mostly signed using an autopen. (DOJ/Getty)

Howell said the case contradicts prior characterizations of the clemency actions as focusing on nonviolent offenders.

“We agree with the Biden administration’s own Justice Department officials who flagged that these people were violent,” Howell said. “Stop saying they’re nonviolent. The documents speak for themselves.”

Howell also questioned the legality of the autopen process.

“The president has said these autopen commutations are null and void,” Howell said. “DOJ had a choice to make, keep him in custody or release him, and they chose not to follow that direction.”

The Florida Attorney General’s office did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

The release of Fowler comes as House Oversight Committee GOP majority released a 100-page report in October 2025 detailing findings from its monthslong probe into Biden’s White House, specifically whether his inner circle covered up signs of mental decline, and if that alleged cover-up extended to executive actions signed via autopen without Biden’s full awareness.

“The Department of Justice should immediately conduct a review of all executive actions taken by President Biden between January 20, 2021, and January 19, 2025. Given the patterns and findings detailed herein, this review should focus particularly on all acts of clemency. However, it should also include all other types of executive actions.”

New Delhi. As exciting as the world of cricket is on the field, it is equally interesting off the field as well. The lifestyle of cricketers and their personal decisions often become the subject of gossip among fans. In the present times, many cricketers have chosen to live life on their own terms, leaving behind the old traditions of the society. We are talking about those 5 legendary cricketers of the world, who became fathers even before tying the knot. The name of an Indian player is also included in this list, who made a lot of headlines at that time. In olden times, these things were seen as controversial, but in today’s era, the cricket world and fans consider it a personal decision of the players. These players have shown that to fulfill responsibility and love, just a legal paper is not enough, but dedication is necessary.

The story of Vivian Richards, the most dreaded batsman in the history of cricket, has been the most talked about. In the 80s, the affair between Vivian Richards and Indian actress Neena Gupta was much talked about. Although Richards was already married, he and Nina remained in a relationship without marriage. In the year 1989, Neena Gupta gave birth to a daughter, whose name is Masaba Gupta (who is today a famous fashion designer of India). Vivian and Neena never married, but Vivian always gave his name to his daughter Masaba and stood by her.

Later he got married again with great pomp in Udaipur in 2023.

Root and Cottrell were not married at the time of their son’s birth.
One of England’s best batsmen and former captain Joe Root is also included in this list. Joe Root was in a relationship with his girlfriend Carrie Cottrell for a long time. In the year 2017, Carrie gave birth to a son, who was named Alfred. The special thing is that at the time of the birth of the son, Root and Carrie were not married. The couple got married a year after the birth of their son, i.e. in 2018.

David Warner married a year after the birth of his daughter
Australian opener David Warner is known for his aggressive batting, but his personal life has also been quite filmy. Warner and his wife Candice Warner’s first daughter, Ivy, was born in 2014. IMF warns Venezuela’s economy and humanitarian situation is ‘quite fragile’ | International Monetary Fund News

0

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has described Venezuela’s economic and humanitarian situation as “quite fragile”, pointing to an estimated triple-digit inflation and a sharply depreciating currency.

In a briefing on Thursday with reporters, spokeswoman Julie Kozack said the organisation continues to closely monitor developments in the South American nation, even though the IMF has had no formal relations with the Venezuelan government since 2019.

Recommended Stories

list of 3 itemsend of list

Kozack emphasised that any decision to re-engage would depend on guidance from the IMF’s member countries and the broader international community.

Economic and political crises in Venezuela have driven massive emigration: Since 2014, roughly a quarter of Venezuela’s population – about 8 million people – has left the country, creating one of the largest displacement crises in recent history.

The Venezuelan economy in 2026 remains in a state of deep structural crisis.

It is currently navigating a period of unprecedented volatility and rapid policy shifts, following years of hyperinflation and a contraction of its gross domestic product (GDP).

The United States military’s abduction of former President Nicolas Maduro last month has triggered a seismic shift in both the political and economic landscape.

While Maduro remains in US custody facing narco-trafficking charges, the acting administration under interim President Delcy Rodriguez has moved swiftly to implement a plan for stabilisation, recovery and transition.

“Venezuela is undergoing a severe and prolonged economic and humanitarian crisis,” Kozack said during Thursday’s briefing. “Socioeconomic conditions remain very difficult. Poverty is high, inequality is high, and there’s widespread shortages of basic services. The situation overall is quite fragile.”

The IMF figures show Venezuela’s public debt sitting at roughly 180 percent of its GDP right now, before factoring in any court rulings or arbitration payouts from old defaults.

Kozack said the global lender was still gathering information and facts on the best way to proceed with the South American country.

The IMF hasn’t had any formal dealings with Venezuela in more than 20 years. Its last official assessment of the country came in 2004.

In 2007, Venezuela paid off its last World Bank loan under Maduro’s predecessor, the late Hugo Chavez.

If the IMF restores ties with Venezuela, the South American oil exporter would have access to about $4.9bn worth of Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) that were frozen seven years ago, after the IMF refused to recognise Maduro’s leadership.

SDRs are reserve assets whose values are tied to five currencies: the US dollar, the euro, the Chinese renminbi, the Japanese yen and the British pound sterling.

But US engagement in Venezuela could also create change in the country’s economy.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said last month that the administration of President Donald Trump would be willing to convert Venezuela’s SDRs to dollars to help rebuild the country’s economy.

And last week, the US Department of the Treasury announced it was easing some sanctions on Venezuela’s energy sector.

The Trump administration has placed a heavy focus on Venezuela’s vast oil reserves, even going so far as to claim that the natural resource rightfully belonged to the US.

Citing US oil exploration in the area in the 20th century, Trump has called Venezuela’s decision to nationalise the oil sector the “largest theft of property in the history” of the US.

His government has encouraged foreign investment in Venezuela’s oil sector since Maduro’s removal.

It has also issued two general licences, including one that allows energy companies Chevron, BP, Eni, Shell and Repsol to conduct further oil and gas operations in Venezuela. Those companies already have offices in the country and are among the main partners of state-run oil company PDVSA.

The second licence allows foreign companies to enter new oil and gas investment contracts with PDVSA.

Texas judge declares 4 men innocent in 1991 Austin yogurt shop murders

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

A Texas judge formally declared four men innocent Thursday in the 1991 Austin yogurt shop murders, closing a decades-long legal nightmare that nearly sent one to execution and left families branded as killers for years.

District Judge Dayna Blazey delivered the ruling before a packed courtroom, closing a dark chapter for the men, their families and a city long haunted by the brutality of the crime.

“You are innocent,” Blazey said.

She called the order “an obligation to the rule of law and the obligation to the dignity of the individual.”

Blazey’s ruling comes months after cold case detectives announced they had connected the killings to Robert Eugene Brashers, a serial offender who died during a 1999 standoff with police in Missouri.

Two of the four original suspects – Michael Scott and Forrest Welborn – sat in the packed courtroom alongside family members as prosecutors told the judge they are innocent. Robert Springsteen, who was convicted and spent years on death row, did not attend. Maurice Pierce died in 2010 following a confrontation with police after a traffic stop.

“Over 25 years ago, the state prosecuted four innocent men … (for) one of the worst crimes Austin has ever seen,” Travis County First Assistant District Attorney Trudy Strassburger said at the opening of the hearing. “We could not have been more wrong.”

An official finding of “actual innocence” may open the door for the men and their families to seek restitution for the years lost to prison and the lasting toll of being publicly labeled as killers.

“My son’s name has finally been cleared after more than 25 years of being called the monster, the murderer and everything else,” Scott’s father, Phil Scott, said. “Son, be proud.”

When firefighters arrived at the I Can’t Believe It’s Yogurt shop on Dec. 6, 1991, to battle a blaze, they instead uncovered a gruesome scene – the bodies of Eliza Thomas, 17; sisters Jennifer, 17, and Sarah Harbison, 15; and Sarah’s best friend Amy Ayers, 13.

Each girl had been shot in the head. Investigators believe they were bound, some sexually assaulted and that the fire was deliberately set in an attempt to destroy evidence.

After chasing thousands of leads and pursuing several false confessions, investigators arrested the four men in 1999. They were teenagers when the girls were killed.

Springsteen and Scott were sent to prison after juries relied heavily on confessions they long maintained were extracted under pressure from investigators. Appellate courts later threw out both convictions in the mid-2000s.

Welborn was arrested and charged but never stood trial after two separate grand juries declined to indict him. Pierce spent three years behind bars before prosecutors dismissed the charges, and he was released.

Authorities later sought to retry Springsteen and Scott, but in 2009 a judge dismissed the charges after advances in DNA testing – technology unavailable at the time of the murders – identified another male suspect.

“Let us not forget that Robert Springsteen could be dead right now, executed at the hands of the state of Texas,” Springsteen attorney Amber Farrelly said at the start of the hearing, where several family members described lives upended by incarceration and years of scrutiny from investigators.

LOUISIANA DEATH ROW INMATE FREED AFTER NEARLY 30 YEARS AS OVERTURNED CONVICTION UPENDS CASE

Welborn’s attorney read a statement saying his client lost friends, struggled to keep jobs and at one point was homeless.

Scott told the court that the years he spent fighting the charges cost him his marriage and the life he had just begun building.

I lost my family. I lost my youth. My daughter was 3 years old when I was arrested. We had just celebrated our first wedding anniversary. I lost the chance to build a family,” Scott said. “Every day I have carried the weight of a crime I did not commit.”

NOTORIOUS ‘TORSO KILLER’ CONFESSES TO ANOTHER KILLING

Pierce’s daughter, Marisa Pierce, directed her remarks at former investigators and prosecutors, accusing them of continuing to pursue and pressure her father even after his release – scrutiny she said preceded the confrontation in which he was killed.

“Daddy, you have your name back,” she said. “The world knows what you were trying to say all along.”

Once Scott and Springsteen were released from prison, the case went cold until renewed attention in 2025 brought fresh scrutiny to the unsolved killings.

Last September, the Austin Police Department announced that new DNA testing and a review of ballistics evidence linked Brashers to the murders of the four teenage girls.

“After 34 years, the Austin Police have made a significant breakthrough in one of the most devastating cases in our city’s history,” Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis said at the time. “This unthinkable crime has weighed heavily on the hearts of our community, the families of the victims and our detectives who have tirelessly pursued justice.”

Authorities said advanced forensic testing determined that DNA recovered from beneath Ayers’ fingernails matched Brashers, directly tying him to the 1991 killings.

FBI SOLVES ‘COLONIAL PARKWAY’ MURDERS THANKS TO NEW TECHNOLOGY, BUREAU SAYS

Brashers, who died by suicide during the 1999 Missouri standoff, had already been linked through DNA evidence to the 1990 strangulation of a woman in South Carolina, the 1997 rape of a 14-year-old girl in Tennessee and the 1998 fatal shootings of a mother and daughter in Missouri.

Investigators also reexamined ballistics evidence from the Austin crime scene, submitting data from a .380-caliber shell casing into a federal database. The entry matched an unsolved 1998 case in Kentucky that authorities said shared similarities with the Austin murders, though additional details were not disclosed.

Police are still working to determine why Brashers was in Austin the night of the killings, but records show he was stopped near El Paso two days later while driving a stolen truck from Georgia to Arizona. A .380-caliber handgun recovered during that stop was confiscated and later returned to his father. Investigators said the weapon was the same make and model Brashers used when he died by suicide in Missouri.

Bard hires top law firm to investigate links between college president and Epstein | Jeffrey Epstein

0

Bard College’s board of trustees has retained the outside law firm of WilmerHale to conduct an independent investigation into communications between Jeffrey Epstein and the college’s longtime president Leon Botstein.

WilmerHale’s will conduct an “independent review” of the “full scope of these communications”, financial contributions connected to Epstein, and any related matters, the board said in an announcement on Thursday evening.

Once complete, the board said the law firm would also make recommendations to the board regarding policies and practices on donor vetting, fundraising, codes of conduct, and conflicts of interest.

The announcement follows new revelations about Botstein’s dealings with Epstein, which have emerged in emails and other communications released by the Department of Justice, including a trip the college president took to Epstein’s island in 2012.

The hiring of a major US law firm to investigate claims around Epstein suggests trustees have come under pressure to respond to the new revelations.

Botstein had defended his relationship with the sexual predator, who pleaded guilty to state charges of solicitation of prostitution and of solicitation of prostitution with a minor in 2008.

Botstein, who has been at Bard since 1975, has said he first came into contact with Epstein came in 2011 – years after it was known that Epstein was a sex offender – after he received what was called an unsolicited gift of $75,000 from Epstein to Bard High School Early College. Botstein said he pursued the relationship “in fulfillment of my responsibilities as the chief fundraiser of the college”.

He has also said in a letter to the campus community that Epstein was “not my friend”, according to reporting by WAMC News.

Botstein has also alleged that he was ill and stayed by himself during a dinner that he attended on Epstein’s island in 2012, and that he went solely to attend a fundraiser there with the billionaire investor Leon Black.
