According to a report, the Pakistan Cricket Board is satisfied with the work done by Sarfaraz Ahmed with the junior team and is ready to hand over the coaching of the Test team to him. Sources told Telecom Asia Sports, ‘Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has talked to Sarfaraz about taking over the post of head coach of the Test team, and he has agreed to work with Shan Masood as captain, as both are good friends and can help Pakistan improve its ninth position in the last World Test Championship.’ Pakistan also has to play two Tests in West Indies in July and three Tests in England in August.

However, former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has not considered Sarfaraz Ahmed suitable for coaching the Test team. Afridi feels that Younis Khan should be made the Test coach. Afridi told local media, ‘With more than 10,000 Test runs and recognition as a high-class batsman in the longer format, I think Younis should be given the Test team.’ The post of coach of Pakistan Test team is vacant since December last year. Azhar Mahmood had his contract terminated before the scheduled date of March 2026. Sarfaraz, who made Pakistan win the Champions Trophy in 2017 under his captaincy, has played 54 Tests.

Pakistan’s Bangladesh tour in trouble
On the other hand, Pakistan’s tour of Bangladesh seems to be in trouble due to the ongoing crisis in the Middle East. According to Pakistani media reports, this visit will take place only when there is no “travel risk” or “security concern”. Bangladesh Cricket Board has said that they have not received any official information from Pakistan about postponing the series.
