Every year more than 16 lakh Indians get to know of cancer. Due to this, the death toll is 50 percent. And not only this, cases of death of newborns are the highest in India.

Healthcare system far behind

Despite the high burden of diseases, India is in those countries where government expenditure on health care is the lowest. Insurance cases are also less here. The traditional model of business in the healthcare sector is not good. Capital experience and operating costs are very high. In addition, there are huge differences between demand and supply of skilled resources.

About 74 percent of doctors in the country are concentrated in urban areas, so access to basic primary healthcare in semi urban and rural areas is a good issue. Nirmai, a start up on women’s health, has developed technology to detect breast cancer, which is possible only by reading the patient’s body temperature.

‘Hub and Spoke’
The innovation of business models like ‘Hub and Spoke’ improves access to important medical facilities and ensures that operating skills are better and the cost is low. India’s major cancer institute, Tata Memorial Center aims to set up about 30 hubs and 100 spokes across the country to make access to affordable treatment of cancer. The needs of 40,000 new patients are expected to be met every year in each hub, while 8,000 new patients are expected to be arranged from spoke. The aim is to increase the reach through the hubs to 40 million people and 5-10 million people through spoke.
During the five years, the emergence of online formas has helped in accessing medicines and bringing them into strength.
