New history in Nepal’s politics: 33% women in PM Balendra’s cabinet, five women ministers assume important responsibilities – Five Women Ministers Assume Key Portfolios In PM Balen’s 15-member Cabinet

Prime Minister Balendra Shah on Friday formed a new cabinet of 15 members in Nepal’s capital Kathmandu. The biggest special thing about this cabinet is that five women ministers have been included in it, which is about 33 percent of the total cabinet. This is being considered a big and positive step in the political history of Nepal.

Which women ministers got the responsibility?

President Ram Chandra Paudel administered the oath of office and secrecy to all the ministers of the new cabinet. Among the women ministers who have been given important responsibilities, Nisha Mehta has been given the charge of Health Ministry, Pratibha Rawal has been given the charge of Federal Affairs, General Administration and Cooperation Ministry, Sobita Gautam has been given the charge of Law and Justice Ministry and Sita Badi has been given the charge of Women and Child Development Ministry.

What does the Constitution of Nepal say?

There is already a provision in the Constitution of Nepal that at least 33 percent women should get a place in every government institution, parliament and cabinet. But till now this rule was not fully implemented. In earlier governments, usually only 1 or 2 women became ministers.

Balendra Shah set an example

Experts believe that this time PM Balendra Shah’s cabinet has set an example by implementing this rule correctly. Senior lawyer and constitutional expert Dinesh Tripathi called it a very commendable step. He said that this has made the government more inclusive and women have got equal opportunities.
