
A big case of cheating women of crores of rupees on the pretext of marriage through social media and matrimonial sites has come to light in Dahisar area of Mumbai. Dahisar Police Station has arrested a vicious accused, who used to trap women through social media and matrimonial sites. The accused sometimes described himself as an officer of a big company, sometimes as a director of the film industry and sometimes as a big businessman in a foreign country.
Used to contact by creating fake profile
The name of the arrested accused is being told as Viraj Bala Saheb Bhosle. According to the police, he used to create fake profiles under different names and showed himself to be unmarried and highly educated. During conversations on video calls, he used to assure women that he was very rich by showing them bundles of notes kept in the drawer of his house.
Dream of marriage and taking abroad
The accused used to promise marriage to women and show them dreams of settling them abroad. When the woman in front started trusting him completely, then he would suddenly make the excuse of some problem and start demanding money. Sometimes he would say that his house was going to be raided by ED, so he had to save money and jewellery. Sometimes he would cite loss in business or emergency in the family.
Similarly, he extorted around Rs 6 lakh from a victim in different installments. When the woman pressurized him for marriage, the accused started making excuses and finally broke off contact.
Secret revealed in investigation of cyber team
Upon realizing the fraud, the victim lodged a complaint at Dahisar police station. Shraddha Patil, assistant police inspector of cyber department, arrested the accused from Virar area through technical investigation and digital tracking.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused has targeted more than a dozen women in a similar manner. The police are now deeply investigating his bank accounts, transactions and social media activities. The total amount of fraud is expected to be in crores.
Dahisar Police has appealed to the people not to blindly trust any unknown person on social media or matrimonial site. Be cautious of those asking for money in the name of marriage, investment or any emergency and immediately report any suspicious activity to the police or cyber cell.
