Mohsin Naqvi’s statement on match boycott against India
New Delhi: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi said that the decision to boycott the T20 World Cup match against India was taken with the aim of bringing ‘respect’ to Bangladesh. Bangladesh was thrown out of the tournament after refusing to play in India citing security reasons. After this, the Pakistan government had announced that its national team will not take the field against India in the group match of the T20 World Cup to be held in Colombo on 15 February.
After talks between the PCB, Bangladesh Cricket Board and the International Cricket Council (ICC), the Pakistan government withdrew the decision of boycott late on Monday night. Naqvi said, “The issue of our talks was only Bangladesh. Our only objective was to give them respect and bring to light the injustice done to them. Whatever demands Bangladesh had, they were accepted. That was our only objective.”

He said, “We had no personal interest in this meeting. Our work was completely related to Bangladesh and the government also took the decision on the same basis. When their demands were accepted and it was accepted that injustice was done to them, then only we decided to play the match.” Naqvi had on Sunday met his Bangladesh counterpart Aminul Islam and ICC vice-president Imran Khawaja to resolve the impasse over the proposed boycott against India.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Government of Pakistan said, “In view of the positive results obtained in the multilateral meetings and the requests of friendly countries, the Government of Pakistan directs that the Pakistan national cricket team will participate in the scheduled match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup on 15 February 2026.”
