Magician of Cricket: Why is Jasprit Bumrah called ‘Sachin Tendulkar’ of bowling? Two different arts, but same effect – Jasprit Bumrah: The Sachin Tendulkar Of Indian Bowling; Two Different Arts But Same Dominance Over Cricket

When great players are discussed in Indian cricket, the first name that is taken is that of Sachin Tendulkar. The heights to which he took his batting are unmatched even today, but if we talk about bowling, then in today’s era there is one player who can be compared with Sachin’s influence, and that player is Jasprit Bumrah.

Many cricket experts believe that Bumrah is the ‘Sachin Tendulkar’ of Indian bowling. The art of both is different, one used to do magic with the bat, the other with the ball, but in terms of impact, cricketing understanding and ability to perform on big occasions, both show amazing similarity.

Different art, but same effect

Sachin Tendulkar started international cricket at the age of 16 and continued playing for 24 years. While Bumrah’s career may not be that long, the way he has made an impact in a short period of time is extraordinary. Both the players have one thing in common, tremendous control over their game. Be it batting or bowling, both have been masters of their skills who can change the direction of the match. Performing in big matches has also been his specialty. Whenever Sachin used to enter the field, the opposition team used to come under pressure. Today the same situation is seen with Bumrah, especially in limited overs cricket.

Unique way of practice

People who watched the early days of Sachin Tendulkar would remember that he almost stopped batting in the nets against the Indian bowlers after one phase of his career. He would often practice by taking throwdowns from coaches or teammates. Bumrah’s method is also similar to some extent. He does bowl a few balls to the batsmen in the nets, but most of his practice focuses on his bowling plan, what ball to bowl to which batsman and at what length.

Recently, a similar scene was seen at Motera Stadium before the match against South Africa. While the rest of the batsmen were practicing at the center wicket, Bumrah was working on his blockhole delivery in the nets off the main ground. Bowling coach Morne Morkel’s shoes were placed near the stump in front of him so that he could practice bowling at the same spot.

Siraj’s funny comment

When Bumrah was continuously bowling the ball at the same place, his new bowling partner in Test matches Mohammad Siraj jokingly said, ‘Jassi Bhai, even if you are woken up from your sleep at 2 o’clock in the night, you will still bowl the ball at the same place.’ It was a light comment, but it clearly shows the respect for Bumrah within the team. Bumrah just smiled and continued practicing. Eventually he bowled the ball at the same spot so many times that Morkel’s shoes got damaged.

match winning bowler

Bumrah does not become the ‘Player of the Match’ in every match, but if we look at the scorecards of India’s big matches, he often lays the foundation of victory. Sometimes his teammates have taken that performance forward, and sometimes not, but no other player of Team India has shown the same magical glimpses as Bumrah has shown in the recent T20 World Cup.

magic balls and big wickets

  • Bumrah has bowled many memorable balls during the T20 World Cup 2026. Let us know-
  • Against Pakistan, he bowled a yorker to Sam Ayub which hit him straight on the leg and the batsman was completely stunned.
  • Against South African batsman Ryan Rickelton, he bowled a brilliant inswing delivery which narrowly missed the edge of the bat. After this he bowled a slow ball due to which the batsman got stuck on the crease and took an easy catch.
  • Bumrah’s influence was also seen in the match played against West Indies at Eden Gardens. He created a chance to dismiss Roston Chase twice in the same match. For the first time, Chase played an aerial shot in a hurry, but Abhishek Sharma dropped the catch. For the second time, Bumrah bowled the ball with a grip like off-break without changing the speed of his hand and started the chase.
  • In the 16th and 18th overs against England, Bumrah bowled yorkers and slower ones. He had an important contribution in India’s victory. At the same time, he sent Harry Brook to the pavilion with his clever ball. Usually when Bumrah comes to bowl, the batsman thinks that he will bowl a fast ball, but Bumrah bowled a slower one and Brook played the ball in the air and Axar took a brilliant catch.
  • In the final, he also bowled a slower one to Rachin Ravindra and got him caught out. Then he bowled slow yorkers to Neesham and Matt Henry and the batsman had no idea at all.
