Once again a second notice has been given by the university administration regarding the 6 tombs of KGMU campus. On the coming 28th, the other side will get a chance to present its views and after that action can be taken. Earlier, on January 23, 2026, the notice was given by the KGMU administration following the instructions of the court.

According to the information, a reply has come from the Mazar Committee in the matter but it is not satisfactory. Therefore, now a total of 6 tombs have been given notices and warned of legal action.

Will bulldozers run on 6 illegal tombs in KGMU campus?

There are six illegal tombs in the King George Medical University (KGMU) campus in Lucknow. The places where the university administration has marked these graves include Queen Mary Hospital Complex, Microbiology Department, New Boys Hostel, Respiratory Medicine Department and Shatabdi Phase-2 Hospital Complex. After not getting any response to the first notice, now an ultimatum has been given to all the six by sending notices again.

Will have to answer before the Registrar by 28th February

In the earlier notice issued by the KGMU administration, only one Mazar Committee had responded by stating that it was before 1947, while no reply was given by the other five Mazar Committees. After which, on Monday (February 9), notice was again issued to all the 6 Mazar Committees. Now everyone will have to file their reply before the Registrar on 28th February. Those who did not respond to the notice, all five are in the Mazar Queen Mary Hospital campus.

KGMU administration alleges that the tombs have been constructed illegally. The university administration also says that the institute is expanding and it is in dire need of this land. These constructions are 30 to 40 years old and have been constructed illegally, hence it is very important to remove them.
