Karur Stampede Case: CBI to question actor Vijay again, summons him to appear on Tuesday – Karur Stampede Case: CBI to question actor Vijay again, summons him to appear on Tuesday

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is probing the Karur stampede case, has again summoned actor and TVK chief Vijay for questioning on Tuesday. The officers provided this information.

Earlier, the actor had been interrogated at the agency’s headquarters on January 12 and 19. During the investigation, CBI has received information related to some new facts and documents, on which Vijay has been called again to seek clarification.

In view of this, a new notice has been issued to him. This development is related to the tragic stampede that took place on 27 September 2025 in Karur, Tamil Nadu, in which 41 people lost their lives and more than 60 were injured during a rally of actor Vijay.

CBI took over the investigation on the orders of Supreme Court

The case was originally being handled by a Special Investigation Team (SIT), but following a Supreme Court order, the CBI took over. CBI is busy collecting evidence related to this case, so that the reasons and responsibilities of the incident can be ascertained.

Emphasis on judicial monitoring and impartial investigation

In October last year, the top court had directed the CBI director to appoint a senior officer to investigate the case. Along with this, a supervisory committee was also formed under the chairmanship of former Supreme Court judge Ajay Rastogi, which aims to monitor the CBI investigation.

Efforts to restore public confidence

The Supreme Court bench, comprising Justice JK Maheshwari and Justice NV Anjaria, had emphasized that the Karur stampede has left a deep impression on the minds of citizens across the country. The court had said that the incident has had a wide-ranging impact on the lives of citizens and it is extremely important to enforce the fundamental rights of the families who have lost their loved ones. The bench had also said that the confidence and trust of the general public in the investigation process in the criminal justice system should be restored.
