Jaipur: One-day strike by liquor traders, demonstration demanding extension of shop timings

Today (16 February) liquor traders went on a one-day strike in the capital Jaipur. Liquor shops remained closed across the city and a large number of businessmen were seen taking to the streets in protest. This strike has been done to demand extension of time limit for closing of shops.

Liquor traders say that at present there is a rule to close the shops at 8 pm. Due to which their business is being affected. Their demand is that shops should be allowed to open till 11 pm. With this demand, a large number of businessmen reached the Excise office and demonstrated there and registered their protest.

Businessmen made serious allegations of harassment against the police

During the demonstration, businessmen made serious allegations of harassment against the local police. He says that the police starts pressurizing the shops to close from 7 pm onwards and they are harassed unnecessarily. Many businessmen said that the police exert pressure without any reason, due to which they have to close their shops prematurely. Liquor traders argue that in many other states of the country, liquor shops remain open till late night. If shops in Jaipur are also allowed to open till 11 pm, it will increase the revenue of the government and will also provide relief to the businessmen.

Businessmen submitted memorandum to the excise officer

The businessmen have also submitted a memorandum to the District Excise Officer regarding their demands. In this regard, District Excise Officer Mahipal Singh said that the problems of the traders will be forwarded through the Excise Commissioner and efforts will be made to solve them.

At the same time, liquor traders have warned that if no positive decision is taken soon on their demands. So they will be forced to go on a mass strike by closing liquor shops across Rajasthan. At present, the effect of this strike was clearly seen in Jaipur. Where liquor shops remained completely closed and the atmosphere of the city remained agitated throughout the day.
