Ipl 2026: After Akshar, now Shubman Gill also raised questions on the Impact Player rule, know why he is against it? – Gujarat Titans Captain Shubman Gill Voices His Opinion Against The Impact Player Rule Of Ipl

Now the opposition is increasing regarding the impact player rule in IPL. First Delhi Capitals captain Axar Patel gave a statement against it and now Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill has raised questions on it. The Impact Player rule allows teams to replace one player with another during a match.

Many players have expressed protest

Indian players have raised objections to this rule in the past as well, including Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya and most recently Delhi Capitals captain Akshar Patel. In the IPL captains’ meeting held in Mumbai on Wednesday, most of the captains including Gill demanded BCCI to review this rule. This rule was implemented in 2023 and is extended until at least 2027.

Gill said, personally I think there should not be an impact player rule. This match is one-sided. Cricket is generally a game of 11 players. Adding an extra batsman or bowler takes away the real challenge of the game and the skill of the player. There is a certain skill involved in the game. If some of your key batsmen get out early, it takes strategy and skill to take the team to a good score. But with this one additional player the game has become one-sided. This has also reduced the challenge. For me, chasing 180 or 160 on a challenging pitch is more exciting than chasing 220 on an easy pitch.
