Interim government’s cabinet expansion in Nepal, four new ministers take oath, will support PM Karki

Nepal’s newly appointed Prime Minister Sushila Karki included four new ministers in his interim cabinet on Monday (September 22, 2025), increasing the number of ministers to eight. At a function held at the President’s Office Sheetal Niwas, President Ramchandra Paudel administered the oath of office and secrecy to former Judge Anil Kumar Sinha, National Invention Center founder Mahavir Pun, journalist Jagdish Kharel and expert Madan Pariar.

With the involvement of four new ministers, the number of members in the Council of Ministers led by Prime Minister Sushila Karki (73) has increased to eight. The Prime Minister has kept many important departments with him. Sinha is the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Supplies, while Karel is the Minister of Communications and Information Technology. Pariyar is the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock Development, while again is the Minister of Education and Science and Technology.

Only 11 members suggested in the interim cabinet

According to the Constitution of Nepal, the Council of Ministers may have a maximum of 25 members including the Prime Minister. However, Karki recently suggested that his interim cabinet could have only 11 members. The President’s Office announced on Sunday (September 21, 2025) that 5 new ministers would take oath on Monday. However, Sangeeta Kaushal Mishra was later removed from the list due to her controversial background.

According to sources, the anti -corruption organization Akhtiyar misuse research Commission, Nepal (CIAA) is investigating a case of corruption related to Mishra. Karki became the Prime Minister of Nepal on 12 September and the ongoing political uncertainty in the country ended.

Appointment to these posts after taking charge

After the demonstrations against the youth under the leadership of the youth on the issue of corruption and social media, Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli had to withdraw from the post, which created a political crisis. Soon after assuming the charge, Karki appointed Kulma Ghising as the Minister of Energy, Water Resources and Physical Planning, Rameshwar Khanal as Finance Minister and Om Prakash Aryal as Home Minister. The interim government will work till the general election to be held on March 05 next year.
