New Delhi. We all like coconut water, which is considered very beneficial for health, but it has to work hard to peel it. Many do not know how to introduce it in an attractive way? When KC Sejoy of Kanjani village in Thrissur, Kerala, he made coconut peeling machine.
The central government has recently given a grant of 25 lakh rupees on this invention of Sijoy. Sijoy, who was once a technician, is now the owner of his company. His business has helped incubation under Kerala Agricultural University’s ‘Agri-Praniation Orientation Program’. Also, last month, his startup has been selected in the top three startups. KP Sudhir, head of the Agri-Business Incubator of the Department of Agricultural Engineering (Engineering) at Kerala Agricultural University, says that there are many more coconut peeling devices in the market. However, Sijoy’s machine is high-tech and it can also peel the rigid shell of coconut.

Sijoy did a ‘Tool and Die Making’ course from ‘Neetur Technical Training Foundation’ (NTTF) and after that, he moved to Saudi Arabia to work. There, he worked to make molds in a big industry. In 2005, he returned to India. He saw around him that many people are living livelihood with the help of coconut. Some grow coconut, while someone sells coconut. He told The Better India website that those who work to sell raw coconut have to work hard to peel it. So, Sijey researched this and saw that to cut or peel coconut, is there a machine available? There were some machines but, she used to come in handy only for raw coconut.

Machine made after ten years of hard work
After nearly 10 years of research and hard work, Sijoy made a special machine to peel coconut. This machine not only peeling a coconut in 40 seconds, but also cuts its mild rigid peel in the shape of one millimeter, which can be fed to animals in the form of fodder. For this, he prepared a prototype of the machine first using his training course knowledge and his work experience in Saudi Arabia. In 2015, he filed a patent for his prototype. In the year 2017, he received a patent.

Partnership with supermarket started after making machine
Sijoy has resolved his business in the name of ‘Kukkos Industries’. He also partnered with several supermarkets to sell peeled coconut. He used to buy coconut from the local people and gave the supermarket with coconut peeled at the rate of 30 rupees. But, after a few months he stopped it. According to him, he wanted that it was necessary to improve it according to the market for more earning from this machine. After this, Sijoy has made some changes in the machine. He has now installed a 750 watt motor in it so that 60 to 80 coconut can be sprayed in an hour. He says, “Professional models are not available in the market yet. But when I make all the changes, I will provide some machines in Thrissur district. For a year, I will look at the work of the machine, if there is any problem, I will fix it, prepare a last model, which can be sold across the country. ”
