Indian women’s cricket team was nominated for the Laureus Award. This award is given to the best performing player and team in global sports. The Indian team was nominated for the award for becoming the first world champion last year. Daivajit Saikia and Mithun Manhas have congratulated Team India on being nominated for the award.

Indian women’s team nominated for Laureus Award
Madrid: India women’s cricket team has been nominated for the Laureus Team of the Year award for winning the World Cup title for the first time last year. Laureus Sport confirmed the nomination on Tuesday. The Indian team is the first women’s cricket team to be nominated for this award. This is a recognition of the team’s excellent performance in the World Cup. The Indian women’s team had achieved the biggest target in the history of women’s ODI cricket during their semi-final win against Australia.
The Harmanpreet Kaur-led team has been named along with big teams like the England women’s football team, the European Ryder Cup team, French Football League team Paris Saint-Germain and the McLaren Formula One team. Laureus Sport said in a press release, “In the Cricket World Cup semi-final against Australia, the Indian women’s cricket team achieved the highest target (339) in the history of One Day International cricket. After this the team won its first title against South Africa and is the first women’s cricket team to be nominated for this award.
Devjit Saikia and Mithun Manhas congratulated
Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Devjit Saikia said that the Indian women’s team’s victory was an important moment in the country’s cricket ecosystem. Saikia said in the statement, “The victory of the World Cup 2025 was an important moment not only for the team but for the entire cricket ecosystem of our country.” He said, “This Laureus nomination shows the global impact of his success.” The team has inspired a new generation of young girls to take up cricket and we are committed to strengthening the foundation and support system that will sustain this success for years to come.”
BCCI President Mithun Manhas said that this nomination shows the hard work of the women’s team. Manhas said, “Getting recognition with some of the most famous teams in the global game reflects their hard work and the growing stature of women’s cricket in India.” With this, the team has joined the exclusive group of Indian players nominated for the men’s Laureus category, which includes Vinesh Phogat (2019), Neeraj Chopra (2022), and Rishabh Pant (2025).
